This is my competitive Azami, Lady of Scrolls deck. There are some pretty glaring omissions (that I will mention later) but I would like some feedback on this. Any cards you can suggest cutting or adding will be seriously considered.
The story behind the deck is simply that I was sick of playing EDH. I played The Mimeoplasm and did fairly well playing what amounted to BUG good stuff with a combo kill (Buried Alive for Brawn, Lord of Extinction, and Hydra Omnivore) for what generally amounted to one-shotting the table each time. It wasn't the combo kill that bothered me, nor was it the constantly being targeted that bothered me, it was simply that the deck was too linear for me. I quit EDH for several months and after much pestering, decided to build a Venser, Shaper Savant control/combo deck. After three games, I realized that Azami, Lady of Scrolls was simply better as a general since she was the one creature I ALWAYS wanted to draw. Thus, this is Azami version 1.1, if you will. As seems to be customary, the number to the left of all non land cards is CMC, not the number in the deck.
Some things that stand out to me now that I've written out the decklist: Academy Ruins doesn't do much other than recur dead Extraplanar Lenses.
I'm not 100% sure why I'm not running Trinket Mage.
I'd like to find room for Snapcaster Mage. Riptide Laboratory doesn't do enough for me. Mnemonic Wall is holdover from when I still ran Crystal Shard. I'm not sure it's worthwhile. Echo Mage is insane... sometimes. When he's not insane, he's horrible.
Well, fire away. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
First thing I noticed when looking at your list is that you only run 33 lands, alot of which don't generate blue. Do you find yourself hitting land drops alright? Most lists I see run about 38.
Psychosis Crawler gives Azami another win condition. Also, Turbulent Dreams is a pseudo-finisher. I'm never sad to have that card in my hand. And I've found Fatestitcher to be awesome in Azami as well.
I would also say 33 lands is low, my Azami runs 38--and I think that is too few. If you are competing against top tier decks, then you cannot afford to miss a land drop.
