So this card has been out for a while, and I'm wondering about peoples' opinions about it in EDH. Is it worth its current price-tag (as I know that is mainly a result of Standard/Type 2)? How well does it function in this format?
Just give your general opinion of it, thanks!
Not worth the price at all. It is way too hyped up by standard. If it was like ~$5, it probably would be worth playing but at it's price, nah. I'd pass until he rotates or stops becoming flavor of the month.

That's kinda what I was thinking, but I was willing to take other people's opinions into account. Thanks for reinforcing my thought process, hahaha!
Yep (that is, he sucks in EDH). For your dollar you are getting just wrecked. Not only is his impact minimal in a 40-life format, he is extremely difficult to flip unless you're doing it yourself, in which case you are losing tempo compared to the rest of the table, which is a very bad thing to be doing.
Buy a batch of G/R staples for the money and be glad it wasn't this standard card.
EDIT: Taking price out of the equation as it seems Gaka has done, sure, he's not a terrible 4-drop. But your primary question was about price IMO
I think he can be sort of cool depending on the deck and what you are up against. If you play against a few draw / go players you might get a few tokens in a rotation as well as some removal which would be great.
However all in all I would say he is mostly a flop. I think he is cool and I used him a lot in standard before I gave up shortly ago however he doesn't scale especially well into commander. Still the removal he gives is relevant if you can get him to flip a bunch.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I find it to be somewhat underwhelming. Yes, repeatable tokens/utility creature killing can be really good, but the inability to truly control its transformation prevents it from being effective. Besides, there are so many other CMC 4 cards in R/G that are more worthwhile.
As a side note... flip cards are a huge pain in the ass to deal with. I had a set of these guys when playing him in standard and I used the flip card in the deck with my set of these guys sleeved in thick clear sleeves so both sides were visible at the same time. It really would be a pain to do that with a singleton of this guy though in commander. If you pull him out and flip him all the time you are going to put some wear on him.
I agree if you don't already own one you might as well wait on him because he wont stay as high as he is now for more than a year or two. Still... he is interesting.

At his current price tag, i'd say no, as the others have stated he's maybe worth 5-6 dollars in EDH currently, his effects are way too slow to produce out tokens and spells are going to be cast almost every turn even in 1 vs 1.
I hate this card. To be honest, i've never liked this card. Just like the whole Transform mechanic, it gives your opponent too much control over what happens.
I'm a big fan of cards like Browbeat, where no matter what your opponent chooses, it's always bad for them. I dislike having to play draw-go in G/R to get the full affect from my creatures.
This card is fantastic! He's two guys and two life that may eventually kill something and poke your opponent. Then he may even live to do it again! If your opponents have to go out of the way to commit more spells to flip him back, it seems like you're getting even four value.
As far as the price goes, I'm with the consensus, he's quite expensive. But if you have one, and a deck to put him in, he's amazing!
I picked up for for 12ea on DA pre-sales for standard.
I run 1 in my Animar and he's amazing.
This may be due to our metagame- we play 4 - 8 player games, sometimes casual multi (20 life, no commander) and not edh. I've had him flip three times after playing him. The bigger and more casual your group is, the better he gets. I compare him to solemn simulacrum - a 2/2 for 4 with some nice effects.
I picked one up before it spiked above $15 (at the prerelease) to play in Stonebrow, because I like what it can do at a table full of people that might flip it more than once before it gets back to your turn, and it tramples on the night side which is a bonus for the deck. It's not insane but it's solid and it's fun. Probably not worth the Standard-driven pricetag but if you have a spare or can find one for cheap (after rotation, probably) I'd pick it up.
Don't think this card will ever cost 5 bucks or less mainly because it comes from a small set therefore less cards in circulation unlike the Titans which have been in 2 core sets. It's no titan but though it does feel like a mini titan with trample, token generator, burn and life gain.
Really good card that fills the 4 cmc slot nicely but it's not better then a titan.

Good point, good point indeed. The whole 2 damage thing was one of the main reasons why I was wndering if he was worth his current pricing.

Just wait until he's five or six bucks to get one.
--- Meren of Clan Nel Toth --- Jhoira of the Ghitu --- Prime Speaker Zegana ---
--- Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief --- Ghoulcaller Gisa --- Akroma, Angel of Fury --- Titania, Protector of Argoth ---
There is that, of course. Definitely not worth $25.

There are plenty of small set mythics that have dropped below five dollars.
Abyssal Persecutor, Avenger of Zendikar, and Admonition Angel are all examples of this.
