I think this card is flying under the radar a bit because it wasn't printed in a regular set and has received less attention because of that. Green as a color wants strong ramp targets and althought the Queen is not best at quickly killing your opponent, she stabilizes the board like no other green card when you're behind and makes it impossible to attack into you. What are your thought on her? How does she compare to her competition of Pelakka Wurm and Rampaging Baloths?
I don't think so, but I think she's second best. She makes an army of tokens that can trade with an army, and they all have evasion. If you can abuse her in any way, she's immediately out of hand. The Deathtouch allows her to trade with 5 creatures, which is pretty good CA.
Everything wtwlf said. I only recently added the Queen and she was good in the one draft she showed up in. Necromancying her in during combat is pretty sick. Still waiting to see her paired with Reveillark or Mimic Vat.
I'm going to be adding it in as my 3rd fatty of choice, behind pelakka wurm and woodfall primus, I never noticed it had 2 power, which I'm as sucker for since lark decks are one of my favorites

My players as never been willing to player her. I have no idea why.
My playgroup for the most part doesn't like her either, but I think they're coming around...just last week I was able to Gifts for Hornet Queen, Karmic Guide, Deranged Hermit, and Unburial Rights in my GWub with a 'Lark in play and a Genesis in the yard...while I was probably winning that game with any number of things, Queen was really fantastic at sealing it up.
They are about on par with each other, imo. The primus is wrath resistant and can take out an annoying permanent or two. The queen is removal resistant and stabilizes the board like no other fatty around. She also tends to create massively more CA in practice.
How does Rampaging Baloths fit into this fatty equation? I'm mentioning it because it is basically a 7 mana creature and I currently run both it and Terastodon and have an extra Hornet Queen kicking around.

In my opinion, it's Woodfall Prims>Hornet Queen>Pelakka Wurm>Rampaging Baloths, out of those four.

I run Brutalizer Exarch as a way for green to deal with planeswalkers or to tutor up another creature late in the game when you are out of gas. However, I think it is overcosted for what it is and hope they print another 5-6 drop green creature with better stats that can deal with walkers.
I like Rampaging Baloths alot. Not as much as Woodfall Primus, but I don't really compare my 6-drops to my 7+drops.
My group did NOT like either of these cards. I thought they would help keep 'walkers in check, but all they did was make people sad when they opened a pack. Turns out that 5cc is our cutoff for green utility creatures...
Hornet Queen was discussed here in the Random Cube Card of the Day Thread. Don't feel the sting of regret for not visiting the thread.
(Spoiler: Great option for you green super fatty; it is resilient to spot removal, stabilizes boards, can be cheated in easier since it is 2 power, amazing to recur/blink, it has evasion and it puts them on a quick enough clock at 6 combined power.
5 flying deathtouch bodies just devastates creature-centric matchups. If you play games that involve the red zone, it's a pretty crushing thing to resolve. If you're applying pressure against creature-light shells, it can feel underwhelming in those matchups.
I still like hornet queen quite a bit. Its good with most of the major cheat strategies and 6 flying power over 5 deathtouchers is a lot to deal with. It does have answers, but its still better than craterhoof, which Ive been liking a lot less, especially as 8+ cmc creatures are mostly cheated into play these days and it doesnt work very well with reanimator, show and tell, sneak attack, etc...
Hornet Queen has been in and out of my cube for a while since it can either dominate a creature based matchup or be too expensive / slow for what it's worth. 6 power isn't a lot for 7 mana, especially considering that things like Deep Forest Hermit exists. Hornet Queen not being too hot with Oath of Druids is also a huge turn off, but it is decent with Flash in the right matchup. Hornet Queen can shine when monarch / initiative is involved though, which is one of the reasons why I keep going back and forth on it.
but its still better than
craterhoof, which Ive been liking a lot less, especially as 8+ cmc creatures are mostly cheated into play these days and it doesnt work very well with reanimator, show and tell, sneak attack, etc...
To be fair, Craterhoof Behemoth is one of the most niche super fatties. Not great with most cheaty face things like reanimator / Sneak Attack / etc, but IMO it's pretty essential to the Natural Order / Gaea's Cradle / Rofellos package.

Maximum disagree on craterhoof. Easily a top 10 green card still. It's narrow sure, but in a green elf based ramp deck, it's far and away the best thing you can be doing at the top end. Win's the game on the spot on almost every board state if ramped into.
Hornet queen has some good matchups and some good synergies but also has it's lackluster matchups. A card needs to do a lot at 7 cmc.

We're trying out Hornet Queen over Terastodon right now. I *think* I like HQ a little more, as it leaves behind some dangerous tokens.

- 4 Deathtouch Bees are great, but it's been too vulnerable to sweepers, Orcish Bowmasters, Thundermaw Hellkite, Liliana, the Last Hope etc. This has been a particular problem recently where the last 3 times I've seen this card being played, it lost to Inferno Titan, Wrath of God, Walking Ballista, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician etc.
- Its ETB feels incredibly weak compared to something like Primeval Titan / Craterhoof Behemoth / Woodfall Primus etc.
Does anyone else have any feedback?
