Caller does best in response to a wrath, typically adding 6 power of creatures to an empty board for 3 mana. It is less good against non-controlling decks, but you can still play it in response to removal to get a pair of bears, trade some creatures in combat and get a bunch of tokens.
In my opinion it is probably a 540 card. We run it in 450 because there is some token support and it is good in multiplayer, where you face many more wrath effects.

He never really worked for me. I want to be able to play my creatures when I want. With him I often ended up keeping mana open and lost a chance to put more pressure on the opponent.
Ofcourse he is good in his best case scenario, but just raising the pressure feels like a better strategy for a simple colour like green.
I just cut it from my 500 card cube. It was good, but as wtwlf says, the competition is too stiff now. I'd probably bring it back if I expanded to 540 but even there, I think it would be outclassed in the next set or two. Still, good for budget cubes or initial cube construction. It's not hard to set this up to your advantage by playing it after a Wrath or if combat unexepectedly goes bad for you.
