Your people's cheers are deafening. You are happy to be deafened, though, as it means you have survived. You are victorious.
The representatives from the opposing tribe hang their heads in defeat. There are dull murmurs of dissent. Some members of the opposing tribe wish to attack, to avenge their champion and trample the agreement. Their elders, however, are bound by honor to acknowledge your rightful place as leader.
You begin to think on this potential uprising. You realize that these people may not simply accept your rule, and you find you cannot blame them. The next day, you gather a small but potent force to go with you to the opposing village. You travel in silence, though, pondering how you will deal with this tribe. Will you go to them in peace, using your charisma and compassion to win them over? Will you tempt their greed, and offer them power and riches to ally with you? Will you intimidate them, bringing with you promises of death and their champion's head on a pike?
Your arrival is low-key. Suspicious eyes watch as your band moves among these new people. You survey your new territory, and a meager hut catches your eye. A priest, garbed in ceremonial robes and covered in ritualistic markings, fervently refuses entry to all save yourself. Cautiously, you accept, and alone you pass through the curtain into the darkened place.
Immediately, a strange energy overcomes you. As you move further into the building, you push aside the primitive veils and draping that shield the object. Finally, you gaze upon the thing, speechless. A sense of sheer joy overwhelms you. The people, the land, the victory; all of it pales in comparison to the item before you. As you ponder the magnitude of your victory, thoughts begin to pop into your head. "Why stop here? Defeating their champion was nothing to you. With a new tribe, full of able warriors, nothing can stand in your way. It shall be mine. It shall all be mine."
You rush back out from the hut and gather your entourage. Hastily, your group leaves, intent on returning to assume leadership. And you have your first great task as leader; you must build a temple. You must construct a holy place worthy of your new treasure. Somewhere worthy of your first steps toward ascension.
Challenges
Design a card showing your leadership style and how you will rule your people.
Design a mythic artifact. It should include the word "combat" and/or "attacking" in its rules text.
Design a land or fortification that you build to house the artifact.
Entries are due by Wednesday, May 23rd at midnight EST (when Wednesday becomes Thursday), at which point critiques will begin. You will critique all 3 other contestants. Critiques will end on Friday, May 25th at midnight EST (when Friday becomes Saturday).
The Card Creation League is a monthly contest in which players compete over seven rounds. Each month has an overall theme and/or story, determined by that month's host.
Each round, the host will assign a card creation task to the players. This task may vary between teams or players.
The first three rounds are open to everyone who joined in the sign-up thread, which will be posted near the end of the previous month. After these rounds, the Top 8 players will move on to three single elimination rounds to determine a winner.
Rounds usually last three to four days for submissions and about two days for critiques, but the host has final say in making the schedule.
For the first three rounds, players are divided into teams. Four teams is standard, but there may be more or less depending on the number of players. Each team will review another team's cards during the critique period of that round.
Each player must submit a Top 3 ranking for the team he or she critiques at the end of each round. Each 1st place is worth 3 points, 2nd place 2 points, and 3rd place 1 point.
Additionally, each player can receive 2 bonus points per round. One point is awarded for posting a Top 3, and one point for providing critiques for that team's cards.
Suggested areas to critique include creativity, balance, printability, and relation to the overall theme or that player's previous cards.
Players who do not post a card or a Top 3 will be put on "probation." Top 3 violations for a round can be removed by posting or PMing the host with your Top 3 before the end of the next round. Any player that would receive a second violation is disqualified from further competition that month.
At the end of the first three rounds, the Top 8 players will be selected by points (usually the top 2 from each team). In the case of ties, there may be more than 8 players advancing. The host will determine matchups for single elimination. At the end of each elimination round, remaining players not in that matchup will choose a winner to advance. The host will break any ties.
The final round is determined by public poll.
Prior to Top 8, players have a chance of getting a total of 100 points toward their score each Scoring Round. Scores for each Round are determined by the following equation:
Total points of Player A in round N = 100 * X/Y, where:
X = Total number of Scoring Points (Judge Points + Additional Points from Top 3 & Critiques)
Y = Total number of Possible Points (3 * Number of Judges + Additional Points)
3 points are given for a First Place Top 3 finish, 2 points for a Second Place, and 1 point for a Third Place. 1 additional point is awarded if a Top 3 is submitted. 1 additional point is awarded if Critiques are given for all entries to be judged.
This way the grading is more streamlined in the fact that all rounds prior to Top 8 are graded equally, and there is no handicap for any team that has fewer judges.
Each player accumulates points from each Scoring Round until the end of Round 3.
This month's CCL brought to you by KoolKoal and yewlas.

Congrats you four! You are, after all, better designers than myself, and deserve to move on.
Is it OK if I still comment/critique, even if I'm not advancing myself?
I think pretty much everyone welcomes comments. I don't see any reason it couldn't be done in this thread, I tend to prefer that comments related only to one round are in that round, but if the organizers prefer that it be in the discussion thread it doesn't matter to me.
Queensauce:
Lionheart Enlistment is interesting and flavourful. It seems quite powerful, being able to continually overrun the battlefield with dudes (and you can put mana into it to make more!) and reminds me of Bitterblossom, although no evasion's probably okay.
Realm-Slayer Scepter is so beautifully mythic. I'm not too worried on the power level of a 7-mana artifact, but it's a very cool card that makes my timmy sense go through the roof.
Palace of the Realm-Slayer doesn't feel very mythic to me. It's powerful, yeah, but not very mythic. Its ability to do crazy stuff stems from stack tricks rather than sheer awesomeness in text so IDK. It is quite powerful though; I don't think legendary is enough of a drawback for an ability like it has. Probably should have a coloured activation, too.
Mobiusman:
Radiant Eulogist is also a pretty flavourful card. I don't think it should be an uncommon; it's a pretty useful ability and having it trigger twice would already mean a really powerful board and can be annoying in limited.
Jatori's War-Mirror is pretty cool. It's pretty bonkers with like a Titan or other big guy and I like that it can turn your mana dorks into big, mean killing machines. It feels a bit too much like a super Overrun though, so it might be a bit undercosted.
Hall of Reflections does... what? Lock an opponent out of coloured mana for a turn? I guess? It's a weird card so I can't really say much about it. The flavour text is nice though.
Gerrard's Mom:
True Harmony is a very... interesting card. I like that it's green library manipulation that's so very green (ie. caring about creatures), but it seems very powerful. It's a one-sided Howling Mine as long as you have a creature on the board and that's an effect worth like 5 mana. Okay, it's useless outside of having a dude, but it still...
Earthshaker Drum is suitably epic, although it could probably deserve to be a bit more mythic. Maybe where X is the total power of attacking creatures? Okay, that's a bit silly with anything being able to drop itself. IDK, being unable to put down anything major until you are already winning feels lacking.
Hero's Overlook seems like it could be pretty good, but very swingy. If you have a big creature (read: Primeval Titan), this is an insane mana boost. If not, it's pretty useless. I can't really judge the power level, but I definitely like the idea of the card.
queensauce
Good stuff so far. Enlistment might be on the cheap side, I guess it's multicolored but I don't think anything makes tokens quite as reliably as this. I would like to see more two creature type tokens from Wizards, my Darien EDH deck is kind of sad that none of the Soldier tokens are humans. Relentless Assault all the damn time, sure. 7 is a high enough cost that this can bleed to colorless.
The land is probably too good even without the pump ability, although I guess generating a bunch of colorless at the end of combat only helps you cheat out instants or flash guys.
Mobiusman
Hmm, kind of the opposite of Cathars' Crusade, I guess the effect can be discounted, but this one also comes with a lifelinking body that could get big quickly. An enchantment version might have been a cleaner execution.
I thought about doing something like your artifact. It doesn't work very well with your champion, but you probably intend for it to go with the Eulogist, so that you can attack with a bunch of guys, have a couple die, and get a bunch of life plus a ton of counters. I don't think you should be able to do this to other people, or at least maybe it should tap or something so you can't do it to everyone all the time.
While the land fits thematically, I'm not sure what you do with it mechanically, except lock out the opponent's color production for a turn. Seems kind of lackluster.
Ninja Caterpie
The lord is a good reddish Juniper Order Ranger. Could go in a lot of decks.
Blade is kind of over the top, I mean sure mythic, but it makes even a 2/2 deal 8 to you or to all your guys. 4 to equip would have at least been aesthetically more pleasing and maybe a bit closer on expected balance, this is even more "remove or die" than any of the Swords.
Forge is ok I guess, Johnnytastic.
Critiques in a slightly quicker fashion than the past...
Mobiusman
Radiant Eulogist is a cool idea. Seems like a must answer card or things will get ridiculous and quickly. I can't say I'd wanna play it in the same deck as your champion, but it gives you an advantage from feeding fuel to 'yard for the equip cost of your Round 0 entry. Cool flavor text that definitely completes the card's image.
Jatori's War-Mirror just feels awkward because it affects your opponents creatures as well. If they attack with two or more creatures, you could just make them the weakest creature and then win in blocks? I also think this is incredibly undercosted. The card that comes to mind is Mirrorweave and that was 4 for a one-shot effect. The flavor text here is incredible though. Nice little alliterations.
Hall of Reflections.... what? I mean, besides cutting off colored mana (which the other judges mentioned), you could potentially accelerate by making all of your lands karoos or something. Or make every land a Dryad Arbor then wrath? I suppose it requires a bit of tooling around, but it could be cool. hmm... sac Hall making everything Cabal Coffers; play Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth; get massive mana? Misread the card in a bad way. I guess I wanted this card to be different. As is, I see very little wiggle room for creativity. This card just seems to accomplish flavor and little else. (Edit: Gerrard's Mom pointed out I misread the card. Sorry for the confusion.)
Ninja Caterpie
Bloodlust Lord is a pretty good creature to use your combat trick on from the previous round. And in multiples it seems insane. I like that you can throw him down and then swing right away. I would definitely want to play him alongside Lingering Souls right now. Maybe for that reason I think he might be costed at 5.
Blade of Lost Dawns seems incredibly overpowered. I would probably cost this a lot higher, because it either forces the opponent to take a minimum of 6 OR suffer from a one-sided wrath. I like the second effect, but it seems like too much to be along side double strike naturally. You should have to work more for that kind of power.
Sunsplitter Forge is an interesting idea. The first thing this makes me think of is abusing it with a "surprise" Solemn Simulacrum blocker, but in EDH, this is just begging to be played alongside a Duplicant or Chancellor of the Spires. Very powerful, but I could see it being printed. Maybe 1 more mana. It mostly reminds me of Mimic Vat with a little less required hoop-jumping and a different sort of variety.
Gerrard's Mom
True Harmony seems a little complicated and convoluted for what it's trying to do. Maybe you tried to force flavor too hard? It's definitely the right way for green to draw cards and reminds me of Drumhunter. As for a card draw engine, I can't help but relate it to Phyrexian Arena. Sure, you're trading the life drawback for a creature drawback, but this is much easier to build around and basically negate the hidden drawback. I think cost 3 feels fine, but maybe 1GG or even GGG.
Earthshaker Drum made me go "wow" in a few ways. It kinda reminds me of a more versatile Warren Instigator. At the same time, I don't see it making a big splash in any constructed format. Aggro EDH players might like it... I'd definitely give it a whirl in my Snakes tribal EDH. 4 seems right on the money here. Comes down early enough to matter, but not so early as to overwhelm the game. The flavor text is eloquently executed.
Heroes' Overlook makes me think of Cabal Coffers. I'd definitely play it in every EDH deck. I almost feel like there should be a green color requirement to the activation. Seems decently balanced.
U// Sedris and the Traitor Kings U// G Seshiro, the Appointed G B// Vaevictus Asmadi - "I'm 'exy and I know it" B// W// Treva, The Renewerer W// B/ Rakdos, Lord of Grouphate B/ W//// Cromat the Charmer W////

Unless I'm missing something, it only makes everything into itself, not into copies of target land, so unless you can somehow change what it does in its copyable attributes, all you will get is a bunch of colorless producers that can sac.

Yep, completely misread the card. Thank you for bringing that up. I'll edit my critique shortly.

Hall of Reflections.... what? I mean, besides cutting off colored mana (which the other judges mentioned),
you could potentially accelerate by making all of your lands karoos or something. Or make every land a Dryad Arbor then wrath? I suppose it requires a bit of tooling around, but it could be cool. hmm... sac Hall making everything Cabal Coffers; play Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth; get massive mana?Misread the card in a bad way. I guess I wanted this card to be different. As is, I see very little wiggle room for creativity. This card just seems to accomplish flavor and little else. (Edit: Gerrard's Mom pointed out I misread the card. Sorry for the confusion.)Ninja Caterpie

Meant to use quotes on the word drawback. If you don't have a creature, the card is near useless.
