I've seen many cubes include this card but I don't understand why, It consistently goes 12-15th and never seems to make main deck, I understand the synergy with cards like skullclamp and anthems, but is there more to this I'm missing? Or am I playing it incorrectly?
It is very slow like idol said and it just isn't going to do anything to stop a fast aggro or swarm deck.
It is a powerful control finisher that can take over the game by itself is hard to remove and leaves something behind if it is removed. It generally shows very well in a friends giant cube (not sure the size but I think its still over 720 after he cut it down by a lot.) but even there it fails to make the deck against faster opponents.
Mesa is a lategame control card. If you've got 6-8 mana available to you, mesa can make the game unwinnable for your opponent, as you can chump block every attack he makes while cranking out a steady stream of attackers as well.
Thankyou for the help, I'll leave it in for some more playtesting, and see how it does, I think we were trying to put it in aggro token builds which was the issue!
I like Sacred Mesa, but I just can't find room for it anymore. When it was one of the few reliable token producers, it was stellar. But it has so much competition nowadays that I think small-medium sized cubes opt to pass on it.
The mesa is also sicko with any and all anthem effects as well as Mirari's Wake et al. I like the card, because it allows you to take over the game without having to expose yourself to tapping out (which is exactly what most blue-based control decks want). It can provide both an inevitability and a stall tactic (especially since the tokens can block flyers) the can swing the game in your favor.
That said, if my Cube were smaller than 540 I'd probably not have room for it.
...according to the cube comparison data, there is only a single list with <500 cards that is still running it.
Until a few weeks ago, the same was probably true about Sneak Attack.
I'm not really going to try and defend Sacred Mesa, though. It's a pet card, it's great in a small minority of decks but useless in most others, it gives us a chance to use old Mesa Pegasus cards as tokens.

I've been cubing for a very short time, and have a pretty stock list, 540, unpowered, with no fast mana or portal.
I've got a question regarding Sacred mesa

Thanks in advance

It is ok, but there are lots of better token producers like Decree of Justice
Annihilation, Marital Coup, Lingering Souls, Spectral Procession, Entreat the Angels, Elspeths.EDIT: (thanks Donald for pointing out the Annihilation bit)

And that's just on its own. It also has a ton of synergy with other cards, like Earthcraft, Skullclamp, Gravepact (and similar), Blood Artist, etc.
It's maybe not for every cube, and certainly not for every deck in the cubes it does make it into, but it's by no means a bad card.

I use descriptive language. Assume that I'm being nice and respectful. (I'll tell you when I'm not.)
