When New Phyrexia came out, I briefly discussed this in my article talking about it, but I haven't seen it get much attention lately. With cube designers lately looking to diversify archetypes, I started to look at this card that has been in my on-deck binder and I've been testing it lately.
For those who have tried it, has it been a Pyroclasm clone or has the inability to hit robots been relevant? Is it analogous to how Day of Judgment compares to Wrath of God?
It is. Most of the time it is a Pyroclasm clone, and same as the regeneration thing with Day of Judgment the robot thing with Whipflare comes up almost never (and if it does, it may as well be on your side as on the opponents side). I added it when it came out and played with it since, and I am very happy to have a second Pyroclasm!
I think it's a great card. Pyroclasm is undoubtedly very strong, but I personally don't find myself wanting two of that effect. It's a massive aggro hoser in one of the more aggro inclined colours, so I've included the original alone for the moment. I wouldn't fault anyone for running both (or either alone) even at 300.
I love Whipflare. It has been in my cube since it was printed and I don't see it leaving any time soon. It has played the same as pyroclasm every time it has been cast and is always solid. There was a time where I had it and Phyrexian Revoker in the same deck but they were never in play at the same time to have it matter.
When I had it in my cube it was a second pyroclasm, I don't think the artifact creature thing ever came up. I cut it a while back because even pyroclasm doesn't see that play here. If it ever gets to the point of me need more cheap sweepers, I'll gladly include it again!

I'm with Goodking on this one. It's a fine effect, but I only feel I need it once in my 450. That may be wrong though, as it's something of an all or none effect. If a controlling red deck gets drafted it would be glad to have a second copy. If no such deck is drafted Whipflare would be another dead card.

I like it. Like Pyroclasm it's not the most exciting card, and it's something of a soft spot that may eventually be replaced by something else. In the meantime, it's doing its job. Can't ask for more.
I wouldn't run it with Pyroclasm at 360 or below, but the redundancy is nice at 450-ish.
I keep thinking about bringing this back in. I can't decide if I need two Pyroclasm effects or not. But, I'll echo everyone else and say that it played just like Pyroclasm most of the time.
I would play it if I felt the need for a 2nd Pyroclasm. I like Pyroclasm just fine, but I don't think I want two at 450. If I was playing 540 or 630, I probably would, and I'd add it in.
