What are people's thoughts on this card. I have had some very good results with it. It seems to be the aggro counterpart to condemn. I feel like it may actually be better though. It's clearly way better in aggro than condemn. It removes a fatty or wall and allows you to swing in. Condemn does nothing in aggro. Furthermore it can be played in control/midrange if need be. For instance ousting a turn 1 gobbling guide can give you time to get set up better for an aggro match as well as making the goblin guide possibly an irrelivant draw in a few turns. Just an example.
It's an OK card. But giving an opponent 3 life is pretty bad for aggro's game plan. I'd much, much rather run this card in control or midrange, where I can chuck a relevant one-drop back into the library, giving me time to prepare like in your second example. An aggro card this ain't, but I prefer it to Condemn as at least it has applications in that archetype.
I don't like it. It doesn't remove the threat long enough to justify the tempo setback of the lifegain. It always felt like nothing more than a wash. I'd rather pay a 2nd mana for Pacifism and potentially deal with the target for good.

Actually, it's only potentially a tempo setback if played in an aggro deck that aims to bring their opponent to zero as soon as possible. Otherwise, it's actually a fairly big tempo setback for your opponent too, considering they "miss a draw" and have to play the creature again.
I think it's a pretty playable card in certain decks.

If I'm playing 1-mana removal that's not good in aggro, I'd rather play Condemn. Another spell I don't cube with because it's inflexible removal, and it's arguably better than Oust.

Fair enough. I wondered if it was one of those products that is called different things in different countries, although most brands are global now which is a shame. I do miss Snickers being called Marathon, which is what people in the US called a Curly Wurly. Also, the stereotype of Magic players is that we aren't too interested in odour elimination.
It could be argued that the above is a digression, but I nevertheless think it is more relevant to most cubes than Oust (the card not the spray, which would probably be a good thing to have where eight magic players are gathered together for the most exciting of all formats).

I've sort of enjoyed oust when I played it. It's certainly not on the power level of the other 3 one-drop removal pieces, which means it doesn't really deserve an inclusion unless your cube is quite big.
I haven't seen anyone note this, so I figure I will: it gets a bit more powerful early game if your opponents are playing a lot of fetches. It is still, however, quite mediocre in aggressive decks.
Oust was performing very subpar for us, as it really is only effective against your Birds of Paradise / Noble Hierarch / Lotus Cobra type ramp creatures. Setting the green deck back a couple of turns hoses them real nice, but aside from that application, Oust was middle-of-the-road at best.
In looking for another cheap white removal spell to run, I came across Sunlance. Yes, people see this card and laugh at it. "Well, his cube clearly isn't powerful enough that he needs to run effects like this." But a funny thing happened. People maindeck this one all the time, and use it to good effect in both aggro and control. It's never going to be a Swords or a Path, but when you need to slow down the Plated Geopede coming for your head, or get rid of an annoying blocker like Sea Gate Oracle, Sunlance does the trick. We've been much happier since replacing Oust with it.
Sunlance is a whole lot better than Oust at killing the ramp cards as well. I used to run it and it's not a completely horrible card. You can use it in white weenie decks to kill blockers without having to dip into red.

It doesn't help that Oust is the name of an odour eliminator in the UK.

This. So very much this. There are a bunch of removal spells I'd run first.
Cheers,
