This card really impressed me last time I drafted. I assumed it would be underwhelming, but the benefit of being a 5 drop is that more often then not, the removal spells are played before it hits the battlefield.
There's nothing wrong with that, it's just so dramatically different from the results I've seen that I have to wonder if we're playing the same game. The results in her playgroup have always been night and day different in comparison to mine; her maindeck percentage data just doesn't mean a whole lot to my playgroup because of that. Well, that and the fact that I don't think maindeck percentage is representative of card quality.

I agree, its more of an measure of opportunity. The chances that some cards are drafted and make decks in pack 3 vary a lot with pack 1. (think Tinker)
If I can get tinker early it will likely make my maindeck much more often.
I really like this card, one of my first cube drafts, I built mono blue and I had this and Wing Splicer going with Crystal Shard. Was so much fun, I won every game, and this became a signature combo of mine within my playgroup that now I'm known for It's really underrated honestly, 9 power for 5 mana is nothing to sneeze at, it gets there.
This guy is really good with things like Crystal Shard, but you can also get blown out on the copy effect if the removal someone points at him has a bonus tagged on. For example, I got to draw 3 off a Repulse. Still, I love anything that has a cool etb effect, since there are so many ways to abuse them. There don't seem to be as many ways to make the copy effect work to your advantage, though.

One time the only removal spell I had against the guy was a char... :\
I really like this guy and he's not on my watch list yet.

He is safe in my cube, but I support blink well, and he combos with all the blink cards except momentary blink, because most if them are on creatures or planeswalkers. I do enjoy 9 power for 5 mana, even with a drawback.
It is not very good against red, but I don't run Smash to Smithereens so that cannot happen in my cube. That said, 9 power for 5 mana is very good, and non-red colors often don't have an easy way to deal with all three golems (because the removal is enchantment-based, edict-style or comes with a body).
I actually agree with cutting Razormane. The only masticore I have left is Molten-Tail, because he costs less, can go to the dome, and you don't have to discard to get the first activation out of him. Precursor Golem goes in WAY more decks than Razormane ever did for us.

Well to be fair he kind of combos with Momentary Blink in that he treats it like a 5 mana 9/9, as opposed to a guy who produces tokens which can be both good and bad... Bad in that you can't make more tokens initially but if one or two die to combat or bounce you can refresh them, and blinking him is like blinking a single creature and it stops the random Smash to Smithereens blow out.
You could also get a print out of the word "golem" on a clear plastic sticker and place it on the perfect fit sleeve too... Or hope the players will be aware of such things and/or it won't come up ever.

With a bunch of cusual players who aren't up-to-date on all Magic related stuff, it is better to have all relevant information printed on the cards, trust me.
We had the "Wait, if I Doom Blade my opponent's golems, my Solemn Simulacrum dies too?!" situation come up before.
Always makes me laugh when that happens. I was playing against somebody in a legacy open who was playing Impulse (I think they were playing Solidarity but I don't remember for sure) and they went to shuffle after they cast it and I stopped them. They looked at me all weird for interrupting their shuffle, I said hold on, and looked at the judge walking behind them (who hadn't been watching). I said "Impulse", he said "Don't Shuffle".
I love it when the judges known the question without you asking

While I could probably build some Legacy decks if I wanted to I don't think it would be worth the frustration of maintaining my opponents graveyard order for them.
Fortunately now you don't have to do a lot of stuff for your opponent that you used to. Pretty sure you can just let them be idiots and not worry about it. I mean, if you know the format at all you can identify whether they have graveyard order cards or not pretty fast, and usually if they're just screwing with their graveyard, they don't have any cards that care.
Every once in awhile we get the occasional noob that tries to shuffle their deck after they cast Impulse. It bothers me a lot more than it should.
This is the reason why Impulse is one of the very few cards where I prefer the German version over the original English one: That useless sentence was lost in translation.

9 power for 5 mana is very strong.

I cut Razormane Masticore for it and I am very happy with Precursor Golem so far.

This doesn't look like a good swap to me.

Also, in the asinine scenario where you have Sundering Titan, Precursor Golem and Solem Simulacrum out you totally get value off of that Blink D:
Oh, right, I forgot. If I reinclude Precursor Golem, I have to swap my Mirrodin block Sundering Titan and Solemn Simulacrum for their Archenemy and M12 counterparts.

It's just a misprint.
Just use the promo foil Impulse. It looks better and has the correct text.
