For those of you that run some of the more borderline goblin / changeling cards, he also grabs Crib Swap, Taurean Mauler, and Goblin Settler. This is in addition to grabbing any random Goblin spud or stacking your deck with goblin bodies in case you need to be drawing weenies for the next few turns.
So in summary:
+ Gives red access to a general purpose tutor that can grab threats or answers
+ With the growing popularity of combo themes in cube, he acts as a second copy of Kiki-Jiki and Squee, both important combo pieces / enablers.
+ In the right deck, he can also give you control over your next few draws.
+ One of the most awesome and game-breaking creatures in the history of the game, always great to find a place in the Cube for a historically significant card.
- Compared to other tutors, his card pool is not as powerful as the pool that's offered by say, Stoneforge Mystic.
- Also he's slow compared to other tutors, he's not an instant and he doesn't put the card into your hand, which leads me to...
- His closest equivalents are Imperial Recruiter and Goblin Matron, both of which offer a lot of the same functionality but a different set of advantages / disadvantages.
So what do you guys think? Is he powerful enough for Cube now? Will it take a couple more Cube-worthy Goblins or Changelings before he can be considered? Will he ever be Cube material?
Two of those three finishers are non-red, which narrows the effectiveness of the Recruiter. One of the combo pieces (Kiki-Jiki) is a fringe card and so is the Scrapper as removal. That leaves, like, four targets, and I'm inclined to discount Squee because Recruiter into Squee is just a bit too durdly unless the stars align and you have something like Skullclamp or Survival of the Fittest ready to go.
When you include those guys, it starts to look a bit more playable at 360 level maybe. I don't think there are nearly enough targets for anything higher, and the barrier to entry for 360 is probably too high for it.
Not good enough for the effect, especially since the targets he grabs aren't great and plenty
Yeah, I think if there was either an on color Goblin or Changeling removal / direct damage card (like a goblin Nekrataal or a cheaper Crib Swap or even a more powerful version of Tarfire) and one more solid on color finisher this card would be completely worth it.
On the other hand, a few Goblins that are typically in cubes are omitted here, like Goblin Guide, Goblin Patrol, Mogg Fanatic, Spikeshot Elder, Ember Hauler, Zo-Zu, the Punisher, Nameless Inversion and to a lesser extent, Boggart Ram-Gang.
Yeah, I didn't specifically name those guys because with the exceptions of Spikeshot Elder (possibly) and Zo-Zu, the Punisher (didn't know this guy saw regular Cube action), they're usually not cards that you want to tutor for. Recruiter does give you the interesting option of stacking your deck with them if you happen to run a lot of the Goblin 1-2 drops.

Yeah, this is the other conundrum. He's better in a smaller cube where you have a better chance of seeing one of his high-priority targets, but then again there's less room in a smaller cube for a specific role-player like this guy.
i wouldn't count most of these as valid targets. the three drops at least set you up to curve out, but both are pretty fringe. 1R for a 1/1 and turn 3 goblin patrol or goblin guide is pretty awful, in my opinion. this card just doesn't have close to enough targets to be considered outside of tribal and i don't expect that to change any time soon.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
I think it's only good if you fetch 2 to more things with it. This means you need 3+ targets for it to be good. Figure out if you can consistently draft that.

Goblin Recruiter! He's not just for tribal cubes anymore...or is he?
For a lot of cubes, he can grab:
FINISHERS: Mirror Entity, Chameleon Colossus, Siege Gang Commander
COMBO PIECES: Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Squee, Goblin Nabob
REMOVAL: Goblin Ruinblaster, Tuktuk Scrapper, Murderous Redcap
