So far, this deck has been amazing. The Silverblade Paladin really makes the creatures hit for massive amounts of damage fairly early on, and Sublime Archangel really does its job in pumping things up, including itself. I'm still toying with the exact numbers of each creature, and will probably try Aven Squire, although the Knights are very powerful two drops as well.
edit: I'm still debating between Aven Squire and Knight of Glory, but we'll see how both end up working with the deck.
So, at the Magic 2013 prerelease, I obtained a few copies of Disciple of Bolas, and was so blown away by the card, that I immediately started building my deck around it. By the end of the second prerelease that day, I decided I had the bones of a plan for a deck around the card, and it all had to do with Exalted!
(I don't know how to make the little box that surrounds the deck plan, so I won't be doing that.)
I like your list a lot. Silverblade Paladin makes a lot of sense in the deck. The only real issue I see is how your curve is set up. You want to be dropping a lot of cheap Exalted guys to get more damage pushed through. Having so many 3- and 4-drops seems like it will clutter your hand. Take that with a grain of salt, I've been playing Tempered Steel and getting into older formats where spending 3 mana on something is a lot. Which is actually why this deck appeals to me. You can operate on very few lands and still put a strong clock on the opponent.
That being said, I don't think Sorin really does anything for the deck. Giving your one attacking guy +1/+0 doesn't seem worth 4 mana and having a random 1/1 ground guy falls into that same situation. I'd rather see him as Lingering Souls. It's just a better defensive card and it combos with Sublime Archangel extremely well.
Also, Murder should be some other removal spell. Come rotation it may be the best black removal card. But for now, play something like Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, or Dismember. They are relevant removal and more importantly cost less mana to use.
Other than that, I'd advocate Aven Squire over Knight of Glory. Flying is just too relevant when it comes to pushing through damage. Also, I'd run Oblivion Ring over Fiend Hunter. Fiend Hunter has some moderate synergy with the Archangel, but O-Ring's ability to hit Planeswalkers and Swords is extremely important when you are playing an Aggro deck. Gideon is going to wreck your strategy and O-Ring is an easy answer that puts you back on track to win the game.
I threw together a BW Exalted deck for FNM last night (I ended up placing 3rd out of 20 with it). However my list is no where near where I think it should be:
I had to go off of what cards I could get last minute but even with wrong numbers the deck performed fairly well. Duty-Bound Dead is an all-star in the deck and dropping him turn 1 is a surprisingly strong play. Follow him up with another Exalted guy and/or a Cathedral of War and you start getting in damage fast. Skirsdag High Priest did some serious work. I was able to make a 5/5 Demon on turn 3 a couple of games, which is a serious threat for most decks.
The main problem I had with the deck was the mana base. I really should have run more lands. 21 would have been a decent amount if I was running a mono colored deck, since I would see the 2-3 lands I ever really needed. But it was the color screw that would get me the most. Losing games I had a good shot at winning because I wouldn't hit one Plains was frustrating. I think we need 23-24 to run optimally. Resolving Sublime Archangel pretty much wins the game on it's own. So making sure you hit that mana on turn 4 or 5 is important.
So here is the next version of the deck I'm looking at testing out:
How well did Tormented Soul work out for you? It seems good as a 1-drop and a great source of damage for Exalted. Gut Shot seems problematic but not always relevant.
As one last thought, there was an issue I noticed in that the deck pretty much scoops to Elesh Norn, a timely Bonfire of the Damned (for 1 no less...), or Curse of Death's Hold. All of which are real cards in the format. Norn reanimation can be held off by Tormod's Crypt but we should probably put more sideboard support to that. Bonfire can be played around by not over extending our hand. And Curse can be Oblivion Ringed. So they are all manageable but give us a rough time. Any thoughts on improving that? I want to test Gloom Surgeon for match ups against Bonfire as he seems pretty good for that. As well as attacking recklessly into any creature since he will survive.
Sorry for the giant wall-o-text. Hopefully it's helpful and we can get some good development on this deck started. I'm going to a SCGOpen next weekend and I think this deck has some real promise to it. I'd like to play it if I can get it tuned well enough. The meta is going to be unknown for the most part and this seems aggressive enough to get there.
Capt. Nick: Thanks for the super long post, and I'll try to address everything!
I think that you are completely right about the Sorins. I wanted to test them out, but I think now that even playing two smaller exalted guys with the four mana that I would spend on Sorin would be more beneficial to the deck at this point, and that Lingering Souls would actually be far more synergistic. I also think that O-Ring is better than Fiend Hunter here for the reasons that you pointed out, and also that O-Ring doesn't have double white in its casting cost, but I want to compensate taking him out with other creatures, preferably ones with exalted.
One of the main problems that I've been having with the deck has actually been Cathedral of War, which can sometimes slow down the deck rather than boost it, and a lot of the time I find myself wishing that I just had a normal land in my hand. Have you noticed that as well?
Tormented Soul has actually been running great for me, and has been really substantial when soulbonded with a Silverblade Paladin. I would argue that the Paladin in this deck is actually sometimes better than Sublime Archangel. Even equipping him to a Knight of Glory or another low-costed exalted guy on turn three is amazing, never mind with an Archangel on turn 5.
So I've edited my version of the deck quite a bit, and hope to continue working on it and constantly improve it after some more play testing. I've edited the list above (the first post).
i think the inclusion of tormented soul is very nice. ill have to add a few i think! i'd like to suggest vault skirge too, 1/1 flying lifelink for (basically) 1 mana is great, especially with silverblade bonded.
well my list is a couple posts up, but i need to make room for tormented souls lol
id cut the night hawks maybe. i had them in my original list, but vault skirge can be dropped T1, swing for 2 exalted T2 (with a duty-bound dead), and 2 doublestrike turn 3 with silverblade. thats 6 lifesteal before nighthawk can affect the board. i do like nighthawk a lot, but it takes up that 3 slot- which i think should be swords imho.
[edit] i would also drop the cathedrals. youre right when you say theyre too slow.
-2 cathedral
+2 vault of the archangels. the lifelink/deathtouch is awesome
Just a thought Vault Skirge T1, Dark favor T2 swing 4, Dutybound dead and catherdral swing 6? i mean ten damage in 3 turns with life gain seems good. plus you can hold back a tormented soul just in case they kill the skirge and you will have plenty of life by that point.
Cathedral is a really strong card. I wouldn't run more than 3 of it in the deck though. Think of it more so like a spell than a land. Drop it on turn 3 after dropping a couple other Exalted guys and you are swinging for a lot. I tried out running 3 Cathedral and 2 Vault of the Archangel in my original list and it seemed like a lot of colorless sources in a deck that already has mana issues. I wouldn't mind seeing a Vault but I'd never want to see more than one ever. So, running one should be max, in my opinion.
Vault Skirge actually sounds like a sweet creature to fit in. Vampire Nighthawk is nice for the Deathtouch. It allows him to function as both an aggressive creature and a pseudo-removal spell. I do however have a strong affinity for Nighthawk though. So, I could possibly be over valuing him. I'd be very interested to hear how Skirge tests for people. I may just run him over Tormented Soul, so I'll keep that in mind while testing. We'll see.
Also, I didn't realize Gloom Surgeon only prevents combat damage. So, he continues to be worthless and I'm dropping him from my sideboard. Also, what are peoples' thoughts on Nihil Spellbomb vs Tormod's Crypt in the sideboard. It comes down to cantripping vs mana efficiency but I'm torn.
Edit: On the note of War Falcon; it isn't terrible but I just don't like the possibility of it not getting to attack at all if you don't see another Soldier. I kind of like the idea of a deck in which all of the creatures have that creature type (outside of Sublime Archangel) since that gives us Cavern of Souls for mana fixing. I don't know if that is worth it though. Since you will still be splitting the Caverns between Soldiers and Knights and more colorless lands for the spells could be awkward. Not sure though.
I'm personally not a huge fan of the Falcon, just because there are so many other amazing creatures to fit in; I'm having so many problems deciding my creature ratios to begin with. I also don't really see a place in this deck for Cavern of Souls in this deck either, but that could just be me. I think that colored mana is just too valuable for cards like Vampire Nighthawk, Silverblade Paladin and Sublime Archangel, which all have relatively mana intensive casting costs.
im telling you, ive only tested casually, but vault skirge is amazing. thing that im running though that you all are not is essence harvest. the card wins games. swing for 8 exalted, then harvest for 8 more. its really good in this
i also really like predator's gambit. t1 skirge, t2 gambit and duty bound dead, swing for 4. i know it isnt returned to you hand, but i still view it as a weaker black rancor. angelic destiny and swords should probably be in too
I think to make a healthy Exalted-Deck, there should be round about 1/3 Exalted Cards, otherwise it will be really inconsistent, also to run things like Paladin, Vampire, Sign in Blood and so on, you should maybe consider a Mana-Base of 24 Lands.
@Challenge Fate:
Preadetors Gambit Looks pretty missplaced to me, couse in an Exalted Deck, you will almost always have more than One creature on the Board so in Most cases Gambit will be a short Pump that gives you're opponent the opportunity to easyly 2 for 1 you.
And Vault of the Archangel seems a bit too clumsy to me, but maybe thats just me.
Essence Harvest looks extremely strong, 'need to test it!
gambit is early damage, and when you play essence harvest its an extra 2 life. i think there are many times when i stuck with one creature, and its second ability triggers, but really, that and vault skirge early on is pretty good.
Predator's gambit has the classic aura problem. It allows you to get 2-for-1'd way too easily. I know it is a decently strong card in Avacyn Limited but in standard, the removal is better and I'd rather not waste a card slot on an underwhelming card. Essence Harest is a neat card but how situational it is makes me weary. I never seem to be attacking for more than 4 or 5 unless I'm very far ahead. Neither situation makes me think it would be better than something like Nighthawk or Silverblade Paladin.
I actually sided out o ring for harvest. its synergy is amazing. Turn 5 win easily. and why run gambit over favor? i mean you will have one more guy on the field at least so favor seems a bit better for synergy purposes. I have play tested this deck a bit and i usually get this scenario.
T1 Swamp, Tormented Soul/Vault Skirge
T2 Plains/Swamp, Dark Favor, swing 4 possibly lifelink (16)
T3 Cathedral, Duty-bound Dead/Aven Squire, swing 6 (10)
T4 Swamp/Isolated Chapel, Crippling blight to remove a possible blocker, Swing 6, Essence Harvest 6 for win. (-2)
What does everyone think of the possibilities running this route?
im building this deck guys, i LOVE it lol i forgot about vault skirge as well. Until he rotates im going to abuse him to the fullest potential. yay for exaulted!!! :)!
After a handful of playtesting today I have moved through several variants of the deck. The mana requirements for early black drops into later game heavy white costs has been pretty brutal on the deck from my experiences. I'll post the list that I've come to so far and I'd like your thoughts on it. It has been doing fairly decent in the games I've played and the mana is a lot smoother.
Silverblade Paladin and Vault Skirge have been real champs. I won a game at 51 life, as a high point. But most games, if I got above 30 life, most people just scooped. Having a 1-drop is extremely critical to the deck's success. So make sure you have one or mulligan. I do like Knight of Glory a bit more than Knight of Infamy since our X/1s are super weak to Mortar Pod in the Zombies match up. I haven't yet played against any good Delver pilots, Snag really hurts us but we can go for a swarm strategy if need be. Duress helps keep that out of their hand a bit but it is limited to some extent. I may try out Knight of Infamy in the sideboard to help deal with Restoration Angel or I may just run my own Angels... not sure. I'll continue work tomorrow! But for now, I'm off to bed. Good luck with your builds gents. I'm eager to hear more feedback.

nice list, and similar to my experiences. vault skirge + silverblade is awesome. you really should try essence harvest. it has won games, and boosts life, and is a great one-two punch with vault skirge. i love how vault skirge as the one drop makes it so it doesnt matter what land you drop T1. i also really like that he is VAULT skirge, and we have sublime ARCHANGEL, and a land called VAULT of the ARCHANGEL, hehe simple pleasures lol

How would you suggest I fit it in the list? I'm willing to give it a try but the list seems really tight to me.
I definitely wouldn't cut any of the creatures for it, and would probably look at some of your black control spell, but that's just me. I completely agree that it's very hard to cut things from this list. There are just so many good possibilities!
