Look at all the other Animar decks out there. Look at them! Relying on other creatures to help them win! To that I say: weak! WEAK, I say!:p
Yes, this is exactly what it looks like: an Animar deck, with the only creature being the general. This deck takes much of its inspiration from bobthefunny's excellent Tibor and Lumia decklist, with many similar ideas. But why would you want to build such an Animar deck when you could do so much better with Riku of Two Reflections?
Well, firstly, the protections. Animar as a voltron general is much more survivable than Riku, by virtue of his immunity to many of the best removal spells in the format. Especially with cards that allow you to hack his protections by changing their colour on-the-fly, Animar has a much higher chance of living to see your next untap than Riku. The lower cost doesn't hurt, too.
I should probably say something about the deck itself. Voltron is actually a (quite close, actually, but still) plan B for this deck, A being Storm. With the number of mana doublers/untappers and card draw that you can pump out, you can probably manage a kill or two, at least, with your 4 storm spells (I am counting Leering Emblem in here. So there.).
Now, Grapeshot might not seem the most impressive of kill spells, but it combos ridiculously with two other cards on the list: Eye of the Storm and Wild Defiance. The former is just ridiculous with the number of instants and sorceries you can pump out, and the latter turns Grapeshot into a "1R: Giant Growth. Storm." Pretty good for a common, eh?
Well, I've started rambling (I do that a lot), and it'll take me forever to list out all the synergies here, and that's not gonna happen anytime soon, not with me dead beat tired as it is. So stay tuned for updates, I guess!
Oh, by the way: Comments and Constructive Criticism are always appreciated. Please don't hesitate to drop a comment if you have something to say!
I must admit, I like the color-shifting cards. That's a nice touch on his protections; expecially Whim of Volrath with the whole buy-back bit. Ve-ery nice.
I must say, you've blended the ramp into here very concisely, I like it, it looks very clean.
Have you had any issues with Dream Halls in 3 color? Seems like it would be a bit harder to pull off. Also, all those reducers and mana-flare effects are begging for Turnabout and Frantic Search. Probably also Time Spiral, because Time Spiral on Eye of the Storm is just funny. Nevermind, you had them listed under the 0's. My bad.
I am still a fan of Psychotic Fury in this style of deck, as it cantrips and gets the kill in half the time.

Cool list! I had a lot of luck running Haze of Rage. It gets nasty really quick. Also swapped out Mana Matrix for Semblance Anvil which is a swap I've been happy with. Lastly I'd find room for Regrowth to beef up your recursion a bit. Other than that looks really good. Thanks for posting it up.
I like Animar a lot better than Riku for this becasuse of the protections and the cheap mana cost. Being a 1/1 sucks hard but that's about it really. Nothing a few equips can't solve.
Omniscience is very strong, it works better with the cantrips than dream halls does, and the Halls works better with the flashback. Once you get one down, the other is free, and powers the deck that tiny bit more. It also works beautifully with EoTS.
It may be a bit overkill, but it's also good redundancy.
Another good tutor/big draw/or bounce spell may serve better though, for the reasons you stated.
Poor Animar must feel so alone in this deck... Soul of Loneliness
Great use of his protections and no one will expect an Animar deck with no other creatures. This would be an excellent place to include Torpor Orb, just to confuse people even more.
I'm going to add a link to this deck from my Animar primer (not yet official, but soon hopefully) as an alternative combo build
Is this thread dead? I was expecting an update haha. well i like the idea and everything here. I must make a secondary deck with same general. a voltron animar and a combo animar. haha

I think you maybe fold to any global -1/-1 effect like Curse of Death's Hold or Night of Souls' Betrayal so just watch out for that.
Also dat Omniscience- is that overkill? Do you think you will ever cast it?
