A good point. I see post appearing in a ton of different decks. Case in point I have a post deck with Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas. Do I now post in this forum, or the Tezzeret forum, or both?

The best thing about Tezz-Post, is that when you cast Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas you can ask "Who runs Barter Town?!"
...not only is the total number of players expanding very quickly, but at the same time a greater and greater number of those players are being pushed to only desire a small subset of the available cards. These combined forces drastically increase demand for those cards and cause the values of just those specific cards to often balloon out of proportion.

The best thing about Tezz-Post, is that when you cast Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas you can ask "Who runs Barter Town?!"
With Tezzeret just being such a natural partner to Post it would be safe to say that B/U/x will be the most natural colors. That x could change how the decks splash for removal or even some support creatures but the shell of tezzeret + Post will most naturally flow the best.
That is why the thread is kind of in a conundrum (love that word). Tezzeret decks with post are holding the top dog spot for the post decks right now, so here is a Trading Post topic that can't even include the best decks for Trading Post.

Well here's the list it has been performing exceptionally well. I feel this deck is always ahead against most decks. It absolutely destroys delver in case anyone was wondering.
I have though about testing Tezzeret, but like the build how it is right now. Although there is still room for improvement.

Today I played a few matches although not in a tournament. But still did really well
RBW reanimator 2-0 spellbombs an removal for fatties.
U/B mill control 2-0 a weird homebrew, played some powerful spells but not a very great deck.
U/W Delver 2-0 My deck wrecks delver I was always a step ahead. Curse, removal, and lifegain, nihil spellbomb- good game.
U/B zombies 1-0 Opponent had to go after Game 1. I won with nihil spellbomb all four gravecrawlers
Would been even better matchup after sideboarding.
I originally started playing BW Vengeance Control, and it slowly morphed into a Post/Vengenance hybrid monstrosity. after having really bad luck with the manabase for the past few days, i decided to forgo the vengeance part and just play a trading post midrange deck

the first thing i would like to address is that people are picking up stony silence to shut our decks down. after SB you should probably have a few ways to deal with this, that, or side into things that stony silence doesnt neuter.here is a deck tech for mono blue trading post at SCG
i like my white black list the best thusfar. here is my list that is constantly morphing and changing. im currently trying my list without my mindslaver + gilded lotuses in favor of more early game stuff, and threats that dont require so much 'setting up'. the miser's mindslaver has been moved to the SB. i dont think i'll ever cut it entirely, as it is simply too much fun to win off of infinite mindslaver lock, especially when you have like 5 cards left in your library :D.
in my experience, the best way to approach our archetype is to be able to deal with everything they play. for most lists this seems unreasonable, since you want to be doing other things. lucky for us, we dont need a lot of cards to do other things, leaving us ample room for stuff to KILL ALL THE THINGS.
a quick peek at my list will show that nearly every card in my mainboard will either gain me life, copy what they are doing, or kill what they are doing. actually, the only cards that DONT interact with the board are as follows:
4 ichor wellspring
4 trading post
1 mimic vat (doesnt initially interact, but does after it exiles something)
2 duress (doesnt interact with the board, but helps tremendously in a lot of matchups).
late game, very few decks are able to compete with our endless supply of card advantage, and things to do, all while sandbagging several kill / board wipe / other spells for when they draw that one hope of winning. crushing dreams, and winning late game. this deck is so fun!
that said, my SB is a mess. ive never been too exceptional at making them.

Yea I played a mirror earlier. He was playing a bit more control than me and only had 1 Wurmcoil Engine in the deck if I remember right. I was able to Nihil Spellbomb it when he misplayed and let it be killed without Post untapped. He was playing Spine of Ish Sah though and drug the game out through that. He ended up decking himself with 70 life still left which I thought was pretty funny. It was an excruciatingly long game though and we only played the first game of a match because he conceded from only having 5 minutes left to finish a second game.

Yes they do. A play that isn't all that uncommon is I play it, sac it, exile it with mimic vat. Activate mimic vat and attack, tapping all eight tokens for lethal damage.

So I REALLY wanted to play grixis tezz this friday but my LGS was out of them and no one had any for trade so a last minute decision to switch to white was in order.
This decision I think foiled my night because I went 2-4.
Round 1 - Goblins
Game 1 It was a race and I couldn't get a post online for lifegain before he goblin grenaded for a win.
Game 2 I sided in creature control and he sided out creatures so I saw a turn 2 and turn 3 shrine that eventaully out ran my post and wurmcoil.
Round 2 - Mono green infect
Lifegain did me no good and he kept pumping out pump spells faster than I could deal with them both games.
Round 3 - Grixis Control
Game 1 - We both played land/go for about 4 turns, I got post online and was swinging away with wurmcoils and he hit nicol bolas and proceeded to waste me away. I held him off for a bit being at 50+ life but bolas ultimate twice wiped my whole board with no recovery.
Game 2 - I sided in another oring in hopes that nicol bolas would be dead but he has jaces waiting for me and mill'd me out.
Round 4 - Mono black zombies (Without blood artist)
Game 1 went forever as I would wait to get everything online. He'd swing for 4 and I would just trading post for 4 life. Eventually Wurmcoil wins
Game 2 I thought he had me at 2 life with a messenger in play about to be back in play. I made a decent recovery with post life and came back with a swarm of wurm tokens.
Round 5 - Mono Black homebrew
Interesting deck - creatureless with sorin markov and sorins vengeance as win cons.
Game 1 I won the lifegain game and was able to eventually stick him with wurm tokens. He was around 48-49 life and I was around 36ish. I had 8 Tokens and 2 wurmcoils in play to win.
Game 2 he hits ramp early and Combos turn 4, nothing I could do.
Game 3 He hits ramp and combos turn 5. ew.
Round 6 my opponent drops so it was like a bye lol.
I would like to change a lot of things - possibly the addition of porcelain legionnaire, another oring MD, etc...
vault skirge might be something to think of also.

Anyway, I am surprised you go beat by goblins. You have 10 lifegain (12 with wurmcoil) sources mainboard. I usually was able to stabilize early enough and then pull away with lifegain. Although I haven't gone against shrine which I see being a pain. Sorins vengeance decks are a pain. I am thinking about adding in a stensia bloodhall to deal with walkers, I also have two negates in my sb.

I was surprised too, but I wasn't expecting the deck change from sideboard, and i have a poor build in that list so I'm sure if I tweek it I shouldn't have an issue.
I do like the lifegain concept and because there is a serious amount I'm wondering if vault skirge and chalice are choices that can be added.
Most ridiculous play ever from trading post is the life gain. with the talisman it was Pay 1 gain 5 life each turn. But I have to get them online first.
Sorings vengeace was a pain because he gained as much life as I was.
And it's ok I didn't get to play the grixis version because I had a serious amount of fun with the deck. After playing white I think it might be a decent way to go. Ill update my lsit later
U/B zombies 0-2
I just wasn't able to stabilize early enough, never got a curse of death's hold, never got any lifegain sources until too late and was finished both games by a pair of blood artists.
Naya Pod 2-1
Loss came against acidic slime + 2 restoration angels blowing up some crucial lands.
Didn't have much trouble. The deck crumples to BSZ consiedering all there mana dorks an low power creatures that can't be recurred like zombies. Zealous conscripts was never able to steal anything luckily.
G/W humans 0-2
It got out of the gates really quickly with silverblade paladin and chapion of the parish. They had a lot of resilient guys like doomed traveler and loyal cathar so it was hard to stabilize. Once again no luck with getting a curse or lifegain online in time.
Mono blue and U/W delver 2-0, 2-0

I've been playing a Boros version of the deck, but I'm thinking that that deck doesn't have enough business against opposing control decks that I can keep on playing it well. So I'm considering this BWu list that could use a little tweaking.
It's showing moderate success on Cockatrice, but it needs just something a little more to get it there. The first thing I'm thinking is dropping one Wurmcoil Engine for a Batterskull. They're similar threats, but the second has good synergy with Lingering Souls, which is really only there now as an early body/ blocker.
Why am I not seeing Precursor Golem anywhere? Sure, it doesn't give you life like Batterskull or Wurmcoil but a 5-drop 3-artifact seems great for Trading Post.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.

With the card advantage the deck can have I thought I might like Liliana of the Veil more and she has been pretty good to me. Since I don't have Tezz's search ability I have added in Ponder to help search for what I need. So right now I'm running nearly a mono black list with Blue splashed for Ponder and to not sac life for metamorph.

I have been running into more and more decks that are using Dissipate to keep Wurmcoil out of the graveyard. I have also seen decks sideboarding Memoricide to deal with them as well. cavern is fantastic. i think its very important to run them, even if you only run a handful of creatures.
your deck looks pretty sweet, but i think you could change some things for benefit.
disciple of bolas is too situational in your deck to be effective. i'd drop that first. yea, you CAN live the dream and sac a wurmcoil, but anything other than that and its going to be pretty mediocre.
i think you are also a bit too heavy into the 'trading post value town', and a bit light on interactivity. maybe try cutting 2 mycosynth wellsprings and putting 1 more ichor in. for the extra slot, i'd strongly recommend the 4th metamorph. it fits the deck so well, and think back.. have you ever had a time where you didnt really like seeing it in your hand or in play? for me, ive always loved drawing it, even in multiples.
the 3rd wurmcoil might be a bit superfluous. you really only need 2 mainboard IMO.
murder is a decent card, but i think the tempo loss in the extra mana makes it lackluster when compared to either go for the throat or doom blade. i'd consider these options heavily.
how has staff of nin been for you? ive wanted to test this for some time, but i never have.

Murder is kind of a relic of past builds. I was using it to really not worry about if I was running into a mirror or not. I could probably replace it with a doom blade or go for the throat, I just haven't yet.
Staff of Nin I sort of have mixed feelings about right now. When I do get it out and on the board it usually means game just from the one sided card advantage but at the same time I am spending the same amount on it I could a Wurmcoil. The 1 damage has come in handy a few times vs token decks but for a vast majority of the time it means almost nothing. At that point in the game I either have my engine going and 1 damage makes little difference or I don't and 1 damage makes little difference. The two uses it has are to ping Planeswalkers you don't have an immediate answer for, and slow them down a tiny bit, or the tokens like I said before. It's worth the 1 spot I have it in but I wouldn't consider adding more. I did have one game that I had no Wurmcoils on the board and made 3 staffs through metamorphs though. That was a pretty funny moment.
As for Dissipate and Memoricide, I play on MTGO and they have been a common answer people are using for me. I don't normally see them mainboard but I am seeing them more and more being sideboarded.
Also I have used Disciple of Bolas a number of times after a Metamorph copy of their creature, cast Disciple, gain life and draw cards, then use trading post saccing Disciple to get metamorph back out of the GY. It's nice to use on Wurmcoil but not the only option.
I was running this deck Mono-Red for a long time but I recently switched to Boros. My success hasn't gotten better or worse; I'm still going 3-1 every week.

Trading Post isn't really a deck, but an engine. Mainly, the engine of Trading Post, Ichor Wellspring and Wurmcoil Engine for draw, advantage and kill. Should we be considering it as such, and then transplanting the engine into already existing control shells, or does it warrant a whole new consideration of its own?
A good point. I see post appearing in a ton of different decks. Case in point I have a post deck with Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas. Do I now post in this forum, or the Tezzeret forum, or both?

First, is their any consensus whatsoever about what colours are most natural to play with Value-Town? (I apologize, but I love Trading Post, and have already adopted several nicknames for it) I first tried it in mono-B control, and that was fairly sweet, but often the 'Post felt like it was just jammed in their for fun, so I moved on to Tezz-Post, which is mad-sweet, but seems to be a little slow to react sometimes. Anyways, what Goat-Post decks have you folks found successful, and what are the pro/cons of various colour combinations?
The best thing about Tezz-Post, is that when you cast Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas you can ask "Who runs Barter Town?!"
With Tezzeret just being such a natural partner to Post it would be safe to say that B/U/x will be the most natural colors. That x could change how the decks splash for removal or even some support creatures but the shell of tezzeret + Post will most naturally flow the best.
That is why the thread is kind of in a conundrum (love that word). Tezzeret decks with post are holding the top dog spot for the post decks right now, so here is a Trading Post topic that can't even include the best decks for Trading Post.

Well here's the list it has been performing exceptionally well. I feel this deck is always ahead against most decks. It absolutely destroys delver in case anyone was wondering.
I have though about testing Tezzeret, but like the build how it is right now. Although there is still room for improvement.

Today I played a few matches although not in a tournament. But still did really well
RBW reanimator 2-0 spellbombs an removal for fatties.
U/B mill control 2-0 a weird homebrew, played some powerful spells but not a very great deck.
U/W Delver 2-0 My deck wrecks delver I was always a step ahead. Curse, removal, and lifegain, nihil spellbomb- good game.
U/B zombies 1-0 Opponent had to go after Game 1. I won with nihil spellbomb all four gravecrawlers
Would been even better matchup after sideboarding.

i like my white black list the best thusfar. here is my list that is constantly morphing and changing. im currently trying my list without my mindslaver + gilded lotuses in favor of more early game stuff, and threats that dont require so much 'setting up'. the miser's mindslaver has been moved to the SB. i dont think i'll ever cut it entirely, as it is simply too much fun to win off of infinite mindslaver lock, especially when you have like 5 cards left in your library :D.

a quick peek at my list will show that nearly every card in my mainboard will either gain me life, copy what they are doing, or kill what they are doing. actually, the only cards that DONT interact with the board are as follows:
4 ichor wellspring
4 trading post
1 mimic vat (doesnt initially interact, but does after it exiles something)
2 duress (doesnt interact with the board, but helps tremendously in a lot of matchups).
late game, very few decks are able to compete with our endless supply of card advantage, and things to do, all while sandbagging several kill / board wipe / other spells for when they draw that one hope of winning. crushing dreams, and winning late game. this deck is so fun!
that said, my SB is a mess. ive never been too exceptional at making them.
i think you forgot to add in your sorins vengeance to your list (im assuming thats why its named that :P).

Yea I played a mirror earlier. He was playing a bit more control than me and only had 1 Wurmcoil Engine in the deck if I remember right. I was able to Nihil Spellbomb it when he misplayed and let it be killed without Post untapped. He was playing Spine of Ish Sah though and drug the game out through that. He ended up decking himself with 70 life still left which I thought was pretty funny. It was an excruciatingly long game though and we only played the first game of a match because he conceded from only having 5 minutes left to finish a second game.

Yes they do. A play that isn't all that uncommon is I play it, sac it, exile it with mimic vat. Activate mimic vat and attack, tapping all eight tokens for lethal damage.

the mirror is pain, I have played mono black post twice recently. Going 1-2 and 2-1 actually one my toughest matchups.

This decision I think foiled my night because I went 2-4.
Round 1 - Goblins
Game 1 It was a race and I couldn't get a post online for lifegain before he goblin grenaded for a win.
Game 2 I sided in creature control and he sided out creatures so I saw a turn 2 and turn 3 shrine that eventaully out ran my post and wurmcoil.
Round 2 - Mono green infect
Lifegain did me no good and he kept pumping out pump spells faster than I could deal with them both games.
Round 3 - Grixis Control
Game 1 - We both played land/go for about 4 turns, I got post online and was swinging away with wurmcoils and he hit nicol bolas and proceeded to waste me away. I held him off for a bit being at 50+ life but bolas ultimate twice wiped my whole board with no recovery.
Game 2 - I sided in another oring in hopes that nicol bolas would be dead but he has jaces waiting for me and mill'd me out.
Round 4 - Mono black zombies (Without blood artist)
Game 1 went forever as I would wait to get everything online. He'd swing for 4 and I would just trading post for 4 life. Eventually Wurmcoil wins
Game 2 I thought he had me at 2 life with a messenger in play about to be back in play. I made a decent recovery with post life and came back with a swarm of wurm tokens.
Round 5 - Mono Black homebrew
Interesting deck - creatureless with sorin markov and sorins vengeance as win cons.
Game 1 I won the lifegain game and was able to eventually stick him with wurm tokens. He was around 48-49 life and I was around 36ish. I had 8 Tokens and 2 wurmcoils in play to win.
Game 2 he hits ramp early and Combos turn 4, nothing I could do.
Game 3 He hits ramp and combos turn 5. ew.
Round 6 my opponent drops so it was like a bye lol.

Anyway, I am surprised you go beat by goblins. You have 10 lifegain (12 with wurmcoil) sources mainboard. I usually was able to stabilize early enough and then pull away with lifegain. Although I haven't gone against shrine which I see being a pain. Sorins vengeance decks are a pain. I am thinking about adding in a stensia bloodhall to deal with walkers, I also have two negates in my sb.

I was surprised too, but I wasn't expecting the deck change from sideboard, and i have a poor build in that list so I'm sure if I tweek it I shouldn't have an issue.
I do like the lifegain concept and because there is a serious amount I'm wondering if vault skirge and chalice are choices that can be added.
Most ridiculous play ever from trading post is the life gain. with the talisman it was Pay 1 gain 5 life each turn. But I have to get them online first.
Sorings vengeace was a pain because he gained as much life as I was.
And it's ok I didn't get to play the grixis version because I had a serious amount of fun with the deck. After playing white I think it might be a decent way to go. Ill update my lsit later

I just wasn't able to stabilize early enough, never got a curse of death's hold, never got any lifegain sources until too late and was finished both games by a pair of blood artists.

Loss came against acidic slime + 2 restoration angels blowing up some crucial lands.
Didn't have much trouble. The deck crumples to BSZ consiedering all there mana dorks an low power creatures that can't be recurred like zombies. Zealous conscripts was never able to steal anything luckily.

It got out of the gates really quickly with silverblade paladin and chapion of the parish. They had a lot of resilient guys like doomed traveler and loyal cathar so it was hard to stabilize. Once again no luck with getting a curse or lifegain online in time.

It's showing moderate success on Cockatrice, but it needs just something a little more to get it there. The first thing I'm thinking is dropping one Wurmcoil Engine for a Batterskull. They're similar threats, but the second has good synergy with Lingering Souls, which is really only there now as an early body/ blocker.

Two questions for everybody else while I'm at this. What do you guys think of Cavern of Souls in the deck? I have been running into more and more decks that are using Dissipate to keep Wurmcoil out of the graveyard. I have also seen decks sideboarding Memoricide to deal with them as well. Thoughts on how to deal with these?

cavern is fantastic. i think its very important to run them, even if you only run a handful of creatures.
your deck looks pretty sweet, but i think you could change some things for benefit.
disciple of bolas is too situational in your deck to be effective. i'd drop that first. yea, you CAN live the dream and sac a wurmcoil, but anything other than that and its going to be pretty mediocre.
i think you are also a bit too heavy into the 'trading post value town', and a bit light on interactivity. maybe try cutting 2 mycosynth wellsprings and putting 1 more ichor in. for the extra slot, i'd strongly recommend the 4th metamorph. it fits the deck so well, and think back.. have you ever had a time where you didnt really like seeing it in your hand or in play? for me, ive always loved drawing it, even in multiples.
the 3rd wurmcoil might be a bit superfluous. you really only need 2 mainboard IMO.
murder is a decent card, but i think the tempo loss in the extra mana makes it lackluster when compared to either go for the throat or doom blade. i'd consider these options heavily.
how has staff of nin been for you? ive wanted to test this for some time, but i never have.
if dissipate is gettin ya down, mana leak might be the answer you are looking for. that, or duress is pretty awesome (and works against memoricide also). if they are that big of a weakness, you could also consider surgical extraction to get rid of all of them. have you seen that many dissipate and memoricides though? i cant remember the last time someone played a memoricide against me. dissipates pop up every now and then, though.
Murder is kind of a relic of past builds. I was using it to really not worry about if I was running into a mirror or not. I could probably replace it with a doom blade or go for the throat, I just haven't yet.
Staff of Nin I sort of have mixed feelings about right now. When I do get it out and on the board it usually means game just from the one sided card advantage but at the same time I am spending the same amount on it I could a Wurmcoil. The 1 damage has come in handy a few times vs token decks but for a vast majority of the time it means almost nothing. At that point in the game I either have my engine going and 1 damage makes little difference or I don't and 1 damage makes little difference. The two uses it has are to ping Planeswalkers you don't have an immediate answer for, and slow them down a tiny bit, or the tokens like I said before. It's worth the 1 spot I have it in but I wouldn't consider adding more. I did have one game that I had no Wurmcoils on the board and made 3 staffs through metamorphs though. That was a pretty funny moment.
As for Dissipate and Memoricide, I play on MTGO and they have been a common answer people are using for me. I don't normally see them mainboard but I am seeing them more and more being sideboarded.
Also I have used Disciple of Bolas a number of times after a Metamorph copy of their creature, cast Disciple, gain life and draw cards, then use trading post saccing Disciple to get metamorph back out of the GY. It's nice to use on Wurmcoil but not the only option.
