I see a lot of people running a transformative sideboard into Splinter Twin, which I don't really like because it takes up all of your sideboard slots. I understand that you can't deal with the hate and that they'll usually take out things like Path to Exile / other creature hate game two. And they'll put in graveyard hate.
I'm wondering if running Talrand, Sky Summoner in the sideboard might be a better option. Post-sideboard, he'll live, and you have a lot of really cheap spells such that once he's on the board you can just cast them with no intent on actually comboing off. And it only takes four spaces in the sideboard. You can also ritual him into play really early.
So far, he's done me reasonably well. I'd like to know your thoughts.
Post-board, Talrand may live, but Talrand will kick the bucket to counterspells and get injured by Storm hate like Ethersworn Canonist and Rule of Law.
I'd rather put 4 Delver of Secrets in transformative boards. They're cheap, they land on Turn 1 (i.e. they have a much higher chance of dodging counterspells), and dying in 7 turns is pretty unpleasant for control decks.
