Now that we've chosen our ability, here's what we have:
Next we'll choose what cost and rarity our card should be. There probably won't be as many variations as there were with the ability submissions, but you should still use your thanks to show which costs you feel fit the best.
It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
The kicked version of Marsh Casualties is a good comparison. If the opponent didn't lose life in any other way, the un-kicked Marsh Casualties is cheaper to use. If the opponent lost 1 life from another source, our card is slightly better. If the opponent lost 2+ life, our card becomes significantly better.
:2mana::symb::symb: is too cheap for a potential one-sided Wrath effect.
~ Costs 1 less to cast for each life you lost this turn (Damage causes loss of life).
What I'm trying to go for with this costing is a card that's inspired by Avatar of Woe. Ideally, its name would be something like "Woe's Foreboding". First you damage yourself (Flame Rift would be an insane combo!). Then you cast this and kill your opponents creatures. Then you cast avatar of woe with reduced cost ;)!
I like the reasoning, and like my own submission I want to involve life as a cost too because it feels smart and pretty. However my "esthetical" self finds the combination of phyrexian mana and normal mana ugly.
I feel Mutilate and Marsh Casualties (as Draco9 pointed out) are pretty apt comparisons. Like Mutilate, it requires some set up and deckbuilding to take full advantage. Unlike Mutilate, though, this doesn't kill your own creatures and puts you way ahead if you pull it off.

Agreed. Wish there were something I could do about that, but I still like the functionality.
BBBBB
too high makes it harder to use effectively, this puts it into straight mono black or at least very late in a splash or heavy black deck

Plague wind is nine for a guaranteed one-sided wrath effect, and standard wrath effects cost 4 as the base.
Cost: 1BBB
Rarity: Rare.
Rationale: In order to make this card effective, you need to be an aggressive deck that can reliably cause damage or other loss of life. This makes this particular card better in a deck that is going to play some amount of spot removal to force creatures and damage through. As such, I want a low total mana cost. Triple color requirement allows me to lower the CMC of this card, while also making it difficult to splash (last thing I want is for a R/B deck to find a way to use this card after a burn spell to the face and devastate an opponent right before he/she stabilizes, so I don't want this to be easy to play in multicolor.
Rarity is rare, just like every other board sweeper that gets printed.

One-sided wrath effects need to be expensive. While this is basically win-more, it's really, really good in many aggressive decks. I think 2BBB and rare would be the most appropriate. Anything lower than 5 and it's ridiculous. At worst, it's marsh casualties plus lava dart. It should be expensive, also because red will love this card.
BBW2, certainly at rare. Should be careful with one sided board sweeps, need to be pricey. I dunno, I just kinda like the white in there, but it could easily be replaced with a black symbol... But the card should definitely be 5+ mana.

IIW for any CCC (pick the highest one in the list):
A high-costed equipment (I want it big, but make sure it isn't nutso-broken with Stoneforge. So a high equip cost or a benefit for casting or something)
A Squirrel Wizard
A G?? (1-3 colors, including green) legendary creature with its main strat based on not attacking

just like all board sweeper, this card should be a rare.
If this card goes with red it'll be insane and must cost at least 5BR as a one-sided sweeper. Since I want to keep it mono-color, and black is not too good at evasion attack (yes they got fear and intimidate, but thats like 1-2 damage only) [and if opponent can't block your creatures, they are not likely to have too much creature on the battlefield.] So take a normal terms that you can do 1 unblockable / direct damage each turn, this will become a -2/-2 usually, which is a one side infest. Guess the best will be 3BBB or 1BBBB.
Which i like 1BBBB more since it make it hardly-splashable with lightning bolt / downpour.
So I go for 1BBBB, which is like kicked Marsh Casualties - BB in exchange of the 2 gives you the upside potential for a stronger sweep
If you're dealing damage to the person already, than this is a going to be a blowout. If you're not... this isn't going to help you. Its a total win more card.

I like the idea of using Phybrid mana as it allows certain really epic moments if you find a way to benefit by using this on yourself
Of course, I didn't think it should be able to be free or used outside of black, hence the additional black mana requirement.

Realistically it needs to cost at least 5, maybe 6-7 mana and be rare.
