Well ... Pulse light would have been exciting a few days ago.
It's still impressive enough that it may crack a few lists. How can I not play golgari this standard season?!?
Well, limiting gold pairs is conventional practice right now, so that's not really saying much. Do you mean for 360 cubes or all the way up to 720? I could see it coming in as a replacement for Putrefy in a way.

I only added that because my playgroup doesn't. To be honest the card is fine, but really unexciting.
I could be undervaluing it, its very flexible in killing small things. But its GB, and does't play well late game.
It only hits a few walkers & a few of the actual creatures you'd probably want to kill. As a plus it removes all the equipment in the Cube & most of the artifacts total. Use this on early trouble & save your Doom Blade/GftT removal for their big guys? I still think it merits running but it's going to be a while before we all figure out the new ranking of Golgari cards.
I honestly just don't like this card as much as the new walker or the lol troll. I could probably see comparing it with putrefy as the closest swap, but I still think I like putrefy more than this.

This card answers some of the most problematic cards in the cube, all in one package. Swords, Jitte, cheap enchantments. If golgari wasn't stacked I'd say this is an autoinclude.
If this had been the first Golgari card spoiled for RtR, it might have made some people's lists, but at this point I don't see it getting played below 450.
Yeah, this is an extraordinary card, and in most other guilds would be a slam-dunk 360 staple. Of course, it's only the 5th or 6th best golgari card, so it won't be seeing the light of day in my cube, alas.

This ranking is close to mine, but I put Putrefy above Decay. Putrefy is just more flexible, and the targets you'd want to hit with Decay are pretty much all creatures and artifacts.
Pernicious Deed
Maelstrom Pulse
Lelteth Troll
Putrefy / Putrid Leech <-- I'll wait till RtR is fully spoiled as this might moot already
Abrupt Decay
Vraska the Unseen (I tend to add PWs late in my updates - so no decision yet)
I'm not a fan. The targeting restriction is huge and "Can't be countered" is rarely ever relevant. Bomby card for constructed, but we can pass on this one, i think.
yeah, so many cards that cost 4 or more are going to lose you the game with this stuck in your hand. maybe i'm too fixated on the restriction but it seems like a pretty big issue.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
This is a really good card, but maybe it doesn't make it into many cubes because of the insane love BG has been getting. This might be better than Putrefy, but I'd be pretty surprised to see a small-medium size cube running either after RTR.
Holy crap, I can't wait to cube this. The uncounterable is absolutely relevant, it's an early-game answer to Moxen and fast mana, in addition to killing a great majority of creatures, artifacts and enchantments (and even a few 'walkers!). It's still an answer to the Swords and Jittes and stuff, but I really like the fact that I can shoot Moxen on T2, and when I'm playing a controlling G/B deck, it can deal with early threats faster. I like this a lot more than Putrefy, and I'll be playing this in my #5 slot for Golgari. Love this card.
There's a good amount of clutch enchantments that I can hit with this card that increases its relevancy by quite a bit.
Crosspost from my thread:
Being 2 mana is a big deal, and answering clutch artifacts and aggro beaters a turn earlier is really important. As is the ability to snipe some decent enchantments and even a couple of 'walkers. And it's uncounterable too. Black has a ton of answers to big creatures, and green has a lot of answers to later game artifacts. Being able to answer early game threats of every kind is going to be more valuable, especially for slower and/or more combo-centric Golgari decks.

No, I agree. I like Putrefy more. I think I put this on the Spriitmonger level of Golgari cards. It's good but it's just not competitive with what we already have.
Obviously a decent placeholder if you don't own some of the other Golgari cards. It's strong, but outclassed by Pulse for sure and Putrefy maybe. Don't think it'll make my 540 with these other sweet cards coming...
I really likethe card but it will depend on your cube. If you have lots of control, more uncounterable cards are goood. If you cube is very fast and or has a very low average CMC (Which many people here strive for) than it is going to be an all-star. That sadi after this block is done it may be a moot point except for huge cubes.
What is is not. It is not a creature. Green and black are loaded with destruction spells and the Green/black combo has soem of the best destruction spells. That is why the Lol troll is my new #1 Golgari card, and I am trying to find a way to keep leech.
I had a scary cube draft recently the people to the right and left of me cut creatures. Not colors, not broken spells, but creatures. I ended up with a great deck full of permission and removal and broken things but not nearly enought threats. So as took up the creature count in all my colors and am now keeping that in mind as I expand the guilds after Ravnica.

This card is FANTASTIC for wtwlf style, powered cubes. The format is just so damn fast!!!
Also, this kills stormbind and sulfuric vortex.. faith's fetters, journey to nowhere, survival of the fittest!!!!! Easily splashable enchantment removal for black is a huge deal.
So this will be going right into my cube, and should have a home in other aggro themed cubes.
For cubes that center around mid-range, go with putrefy.
Not a fan. There aren't many enchantments in cube, doesn't kill many walkers and losing the ability to kill 4cc+ stuff is a big drawback. Banefire has shown me that being uncounterable is almost irrelevant in cube. This looks significantly worse than Putrefy.

Only costing 2 mana is a big deal. Particularly in powered cubes. And the enchantments it can target are all clutch spells to remove. I think it's significantly better than putrefy for powered cubes. Green and black have a ton of answers to late game creatures and artifacts, and significantly less answers to fast mana and enchantments. I think this spell is more important than putrefy because it fills a more needed role.
I agree with Dschumm. Removal spells are easy to come by in GB - don't need more removal, but better doods. You figure in limited decks, the ratio is roughly 15 creatures/8 spells, I feel like there's a need to keep the creature balance higher.
Also the > CMC 3 limitation is a real consideration. My Cube average cmc is > 3, so that means this 1 card can't touch more than half the cube. Pass for me!
edit: I see your point tho wtwlf123. Tho I think enchantments make up a small portion of the cube, as evidenced by eidolon's chart #'s. Plus, half the enchantments are in GB, so you would think you'd have some of the problematic GB enchantments. Plus, green has tons of ways to deal with enchantments alone.

The slower your cube is, and the greater CMC it has, the more relevant this drawback will be. This has less targets than Putrefy in my cube, but it can hit some really high priority cards that Putrefy can't hit at all, and Putrefy costs 50% more mana. And, it's uncounterable too, which is truly just an added benefit, but it will occasionally be game-winning when I'm popping a Shackles or O Ring that was supposed to be backed up with countermagic.

Green has ways to deal with enchantments, but they're all expensive. In the early stages of the game, there's little to no stuff.
And you won't be the only player in green and black. You might not have the Survival or the Bitterblossom that you desperately want to answer.

If i needed more cheap removal for my cube, i'd rather add more of the cheap cards in G or B instead of straining the GB slot. Instead of running this card, i'd go with Putrefy and having Naturalize and Nature's Claim in my green section.
Not me. I hate Nature's Claim and I already run Naturalize. But I would much rather use one spell when playing GB that serves both roles than have to take up two spell slots to accomplish the same thing. I'm going to have plenty of answers to bigger creatures and late-game artifacts in B/G. But I don't have an option that's good at dealing with fast mana, equipment, enchantments and early creatures all in one tool. Until now.
Honestly. Someone on the design team must love G/B a tons. What's with all the goodies it's been getting?

Removal spells are plentiful, but not many of them can target creatures, artifacts, enchantments and even a few planeswalkers. Not at 2 mana.
