I don't believe him good enough in most cube decks. The scavenge is awesome, but the fact is that he remains a vanilla 1/1 for 1...which is very far from cubable.
If building on a budget or maybe a big cube, being a one drop zombie with a couple of minor upsides could be good enough. If you are putting serious $$ into your cube like most here seem to be, it is probably outclassed. It does fit into what I'd like for my cube but still might not be good enough. I may test it if black aggro continues to falter as a means to boost a zombie theme further and as a paired hybrid placement.
If you were really pushing a tribal theme then, maybe, I guess. But as an aggro card in regular cube this guy is awful. G/B has so many better options.
Yeah, it's been one of the things I've pondered about black. I already have a few cards in to make sure I have playable zombies for the really good creatures that need one. Flexibility is valuable to me in my cards and this guy IS that. Right now, not going into my cube, but I'll ponder hm and maybe test him in a Winston or two...
I look at this card a lot like Basking Rootwalla. I typically don't want to cast the Rootwalla except as a bonus for its madness ability. Similarly, I want to discard Slitherhead to Survival of the Fittest/Fauna Shaman, a looter, or some other discard outlet--or, better yet, dredge it.
Also, the scavenge ability is great for your own creatures, of course. But it's also good for an opponent's Geralf's Messenger/Strangleroot Geist/Vorapede and even better on a Phantasmal Image. You probably don't want to use this trick with some of the bigger scavenge creatures.
Except that the Rootwalla is CA when cast for free (a single +1/+1 counter is hardly worth a card) and is actually worth having on the board because it can be a 3/3. This card is bad on the board and bad in my graveyard.
He's not really a cube card... more of a combo card or something to include with a large number of ways to abuse the free trigger, like four-of Lol Trolls and Dredge cards or mill.
Not sure yet how I feel about this guy, I'm curious to test him. I also love that it is yet another playable zombie.

On spoiled card wishlisting and 'should-have-had'-isms:
Bet you'd much rather have it in your graveyard than in your hand. But yeah, bad card is bad.
