From Sign Ups You take your time as you carefully finish getting dressed. You want to look your absolute best this evening, because tonight is going to be one of the biggest celebrations in the history of Deitriptychos -and that is really saying something for a city that has existed here, in some form or another, for millennia.
Now that you are finally ready, you walk out into the cool, late afternoon air. You quickly make your way down the crowded streets, into the city, heading towards the Grand Temple at it's center. The Grand Temple is far larger then your usual church, one of the three that surround Deitriptychos, the stone roads between them marking the city limits. It's such a beautiful temple, you somewhat wish that they'd open it more than once every three years for the Feast of Unity. -You wonder if they'll make an exception next year, to mark the 1000th anniversary of the Grand Temple's construction.
It takes only a few minutes to reach the temple's steps, now filled with long lines, as everyone in town begins to enter for the celebration. You've always loved this holiday, the only one recognized by all three faiths of Deitriptychos, because the entire city puts aside their differences and comes together as one.
You finally pass through the doors, and are almost overwhelmed by the decorations, by far the most elaborate they've ever done. A large banner hangs at the center, greeting you as you look for a seat, "Welcome to the 333rd Triennial Feast of Unity Celebration!"
Pregame You sit down at a large table, already covered in various dishes of delicious smelling food, with several friends from your church. It is traditional to avoid members of the other two denominations until the midnight bell ceremony. You laugh, and share stories, and enjoy the amazing meal.
Soon, the performances begin. First, the three choirs take the stage, one after the other, to sing beautiful music for everyone. One of the songs you know by heart, but it's the first time you've heard the other two in three years. When they finish, children of all three denominations take the stage in preparation for most people's favorite part of the evening, the play.
The curtain opens revealing ancient looking scenery, representing Deitriptychos as it was 1000 years ago, when it was still three separate, feuding towns. Around the stage stand three girls dressed in elaborate costumes as the Goddesses Clotho, Lachesis, and Aisa as they begin to reenact the story of Unity Day. They start off arguing, angry and distrustful of each other, then separate to independently lament how they used to be so close, but have unfortunately grown apart over the years.
Erebos then makes his big entrance. The shining eyes and long, dark costume look especially frightful this year. The child makes his way across the stage, visiting the Goddesses one by one. He pretends to be a friend to each, but is secretly turning them against each other, reciting his lines in the deepest, grumbling voice he can.
But when he visits the last Goddess, one of the others moves close and overhears, finally realizing his manipulations. Soon, Erebos leaves the stage, and the Goddesses gather. They discuss his lies and tricks and decide he must be destroyed.
When Erebos returns, the Goddesses confront him, one by one, but each is easily overpowered in several dramatic scenes. Finally, the Goddesses take center stage and sing the traditional Unity Day song about putting aside differences and working together as one.
In the closing scene, Lachesis comes up with a plan for Clotho to defend her while she distracts Erebus and lures him close to the Eternal Well. Aisa then charges the beast, catching him off guard. She rips the Eyes right off of the costume and shoves him towards the well. Erebus then tumbles down it, the child hiding behind the prop and making a fading squeal.
Aisa hands an Eye to each Goddess, they bless them, and use them to seal the well forever as the curtains close. Soon after, the children gather back on the stage and take a bow to well deserved applause from the town.
You discuss how great the play was this time with your friends for several minutes as the stage is cleared. Soon, the heads of each church take the stage, along with the Keeper of the Grand Temple. All quickly grow silent as the Keeper greets the town and then addresses them, "It is now getting late. And you all know what that means... It's nearly time for the Bell Ceremony."
Church aides begin walking around the temple carrying large boxes as they distribute plain white robes and masks. When everyone has a set, the Keeper starts again, "Now, let us all put on these robes, as we set aside our different beliefs and honor all Three as a unified whole." You slip the robe on over your head almost in unison with the crowd.
The Keeper continues, "And now, let us wear these masks, as we focus not on ourselves as individuals, but as members of a united Deitripty.." Along with the others, you place your mask onto your face, but then a loud squeak interrupts the speech as the main door slides open.
Everyone turns and stares. Who can that possibly be, you wonder? Everyone is supposed to be here already. You watch in puzzled confusion as a short man in a dark brown uniform enters, holding a small wooden crate.
"Excuse me," the intruder calls out timidly, "I'm looking for... the Keeper?"
"That would be me," a response nearly roars from the stage, "Why are you here?"
He looks around nervously, "I'm... suppose to... deliver this," he stutters while meekly holding up the crate.
The Keeper grows visibly annoyed, "Now?! Can't you see we are in the middle of a very important Ceremony?!"
"Yeah... I'm really sorry about that. I.. I didn't mean to interrupt your little pagan... cult... ritual... thing. But... but I was given very specific instructions to deliver this right here, right..." he looks down at his watch, waits for a few seconds, "Now," then walks quickly towards the front of the Temple. The crate is placed carefully on the stage, as the man turns and heads for the exit.
"This is ridiculous," the Keeper growls, but his attention is soon redirected to the crate.
"Keeper, look," one of the church heads points to an envelope attached to the box. "Do you see that symbol? This might be important."
"Hmm. That is odd," the Keeper responds while picking up the letter. "It's addressed from a... Chaldean Inc. I've never heard of them."
"Me either," the church heads agree. "What does it say?"
The Keeper begins to read aloud to them, but you all listen in curiously. "Greetings. I have always enjoyed your religion, one being built on a solid foundation of unity." The first bell, representing birth, chimes loudly throughout the temple.
The Keeper pauses and points to an aide, "Go up and tell them to delay the ceremony while we deal with this," before continuing. "So, I am deeply sorry that I am unable to attend this evening's events in person, since I am sure it will be a blast. Anyway, please accept this gift in my absence, and I hope things go well tonight, for a handful of individuals at least."
Again, the letter reading is interrupted by a chime, this second one celebrating life. "I thought I told them to wait?" The Keeper vents in annoyance.
"Maybe the aide didn't make it up the tower yet? I'm sure it will be stopped before the final ring, so we can do the ceremony properly. What does the rest of the letter say?"
"Nothing. That's it," the Keeper replies, "It's just signed 'With anticipation, Diana.'"
"Who is Diana," one church head asks.
"Diana... Diana... why does that name sound familiar," another adds.
"Wait, wasn't Diana his daughter's name," the third ponders aloud.
The Keeper thinks for a moment, "Whose daught... oh. No.... No, no, no."
"You don't think..."
The Keeper looks down at the crate then turns to the crowd, "Everyone, get out of the temple! Now!" With that, the third chime rings, this one representing...
A flash of light from the stage blinds you before you can even turn towards the door, as a thunderous roar slams into your ears, warmth rushing over your body.
You slowly open your eyes. Everything is so bright, and beautiful. This must be the afterl... cough, cough. You begin choking on the smoke and dust in the air. As you hack and wheeze, trying to clear your throat, a violent pounding erupts in your head. Wait. The dead don't get headaches, do they? But if you're not dead, then where are you? This doesn't look like the Grand Temple.
You look around at the ornate walls, and then the debris covered floor, and finally up at the gaping hole in the ceiling. Oh, there's the temple. It's right above you... and apparently on fire and crumbling apart. Great. The explosion must have knocked you through the floor into the Temple's basement.
You stumble around, stepping over chunks of wood, metal, marble, and bodies, calling out for anyone else who might have survived. Soon, you hear a voice call out "Hey, we're over here!" You turn to locate the source, and find that it's coming behind a large cloud of smoke. You rush over to see if they are okay.
As you approach, you see that several people are standing in a circle. One waves you over, "quick, come here, you have to see this."
"What? We have to get out of here!" you protest, but as you near, you notice a waist high stone structure at the center of the group.
"Of course, but we might have bigger problems."
"Is.. is that a well?" you ask in disbelief.
"Yeah. And we think this might be the well. You know, the Eternal Well."
"But isn't that smoke coming out of there?" you wonder nervously, "How? I thought the Eternal Well was supposed to be sealed?"
"See for yourself. The seal is cracked. And look at these indentations.... these empty indentations"
"They're shaped like eyes," you state the obvious, "but, if the legends are all true, how could a little explosion have destroyed something enchanted by the Goddesses?"
"Destroyed the Eyes? But left the Well standing without a scratch? No, we think someone stole them."
"Who would do something like that? We need to find them and reseal the well before..." you shout, but are cut off.
"Exactly. And that would be our bigger problem."
"Sure, but we need to get out of here first," you respond quickly, "otherwise there will be no one left alive to reseal it."

6) If you need my attention in thread for any reason, please post it in bold. It should look like this: Mod: Vote Count please?
1) The game will start with Day.
2) Players may post, vote, and pray during the Day.
3) Days will have preset deadlines of 4 weeks for day 1, 3 weeks for days 2 & 3, and 2 weeks for any additional days.
4) Deadlines may be extended by a week in special circumstances (replacements, modkills, ect.)
5) Day will end when a deadline is reached or when a Lynch or No Lynch naturally occurs. Twilight will then begin.
6) Players may post during Twilight, but votes, unvotes, and prayers will not be counted.
7) Twilight will last for 48 hours, after which the results of the Lynch will be posted and Night will then begin.
8) Players may not post during Night. If you need something during Night, please contact me by Private Message.
9) Night will end after 48 hours. Dawn will then begin.
10) If you wish to attempt an Ability, it must be submitted to me by Private Message before Dawn or it will be not be used. If you choose to not use an Ability, I would appreciate a PM letting me know that as well.
11) During Dawn, players may still not post. At this time, players will receive Night results. I will then post that Day has begun, and posting may resume.
1) Votes and Unvotes are to be posted in bold, if you want them to count. They should look like this: Vote KittyCupCake
2) Before voting, any previous Vote should be unvoted, if you want it to count.
3) When unvoting, please include the name of the player from whom you are removing your Vote. It should look like this: Unvote KittyCupCake
4) When a player receives a simple majority of the Votes, that player is Lynched. You cannot unvote a player once a Lynch is reached.
5) If a Day Deadline is reached, non-voting players will be ignored for the purposes of determining a majority. If there is still no majority, Day will end with no Lynch.
6) You may also vote for “No Lynch.” It should look like this: Vote No Lynch. If half of the living players vote "No Lynch," the Day will end without a Lynch.
1) All players have multiple Abilities. During each Day, a player may pray for the use of one Ability for the following night.
2) Like Voting, these prayers may be changed until a lynch is reached.
3) Prayers and Unrequests are to be posted in bold, if you want them to count.
They can look like this- Pray to Clotho
Or like this- Dishonor: Clotho, Worship: Lachesis
Or even like this- Unrequest: Knowledge Ability, Request: Determination Ability
I will accept pretty much anything that is bolded and includes the name of a Goddess or an Ability type, and which makes it obvious that you are requesting or unrequesting an Ability.
4) You do not need to unrequest an Ability before praying to a different Goddess; your prayer will be moved automatically.
5) Not every Ability that is prayed for will have an effect. Only those Abilities which are granted by a Goddess will actually happen.
6) During Twilight, for every 2 prayers to a Goddess, 1 Ability of that type will be granted (example: If 5 players are praying to Aisa, then 2 Determination Abilities will have their effects that night.)
7) Many Abilities will start off Unrevealed. If you end the Day praying for an Unrevealed Ability, that Ability will be Revealed to you at the start of Night.
8) If you end the Day praying to a Goddess, you may attempt to use an Ability of the matching type the following Night. To do so, simply PM me that you wish to use the Ability, and choose which players you'd like to affect, if needed. You may not attempt to use a type of Ability if you didn't pray to the appropriate Goddess during the Day.
9) During Dawn, if you attempted to use an Ability the previous Night, you will be notified whether or not your prayer was granted, and therefore if your Ability had it's effect. You will also be notified of any other results at this time.
10) Abilities which say they may affect "any" player may be used on yourself; abilities which say they may affect "another" player may not.
11) Order of Ability Resolution
-Abilities with no effect on each other happen simultaneously.
-Any ability which has an effect on the outcome of another will take precedence over it.
-If two abilities would affect each other, then one that says something can't happen takes precedence over one that says something can or must happen. Additionally, an ability that affects the receiver of an ability's effect takes precedence over an ability that affects the user of an ability.
-An ability with multiple targets will affect those targets in the order submitted, up to the ability's target limit.
1) I will not answer any questions in the thread. All questions to me will be answered by Private Message.
2) Roles were assigned at random.
3) Alignments were also assigned at random and separate from roles.
4) The Scum team wins when the Scum control at least half of the Votes.
5) The Town Alignment PM looks like this:
You are Town. You win when all Eyes have been recovered, restoring the seal.
6) Other win conditions are possible on an individual basis.
"Hello? Is anyone alive in there?" a voice screams in the distance, it's call reaching out to you through crumbling debris, filling you with hope.
"We're down here!" a fellow survivor shouts back, as you and the assembled group begin rushing towards the unknown voice. You soon reach a large hole in the ceiling, where the uniformed man from earlier is spotted above.
"Oh, that's great! Some of you are okay! For a minute there I.. I thought everyone was dead." The man turns and races away from the opening, "I'll be right back, I just need to find something to get you all out of there."
As soon as he is gone, a flurry of chatter erupts. "Yay, we're going to be rescued." "Can we really trust him? Didn't he bring the bomb here?" "He is just a delivery guy, I'm sure he didn't know." "And why would he come back to help us if he was responsible?" After several more minutes of this discussion, you all finally agree that if he does actually save you from the temple, you can probably extend a cautious trust to him.
He does shortly return with some rope, and begins pulling you all out, one by one. Once the last is out, you all move a safe distance away from the temple. "Do you think anyone else is still in there?" your rescuer asks.
"No way," someone calls out, "we looked all over the basement, and upstairs is an inferno. No one could be alive up there, it's just us."
The deliveryman does a quick head count. "So, only a dozen survivors... And how many people were in there? That means..."
3,321 Innocent Townies are dead.
It is now Day 1. With 12 alive, it takes 7 to Lynch. The deadline is set for the 7th of October.
Never been a fan of RVP, but if I must, Vote ISO.
Let's continue the feud from another forum -.-
Should we discuss what we should do with our powers?
I'm not sure if we should be encouraging the use of powers right now or not.
From what I can see, there are 2 better choices:
We can all pray to the same goddess so that we can decrease the chances of Mafia gaining powers, or we could just decide not to use powers at all, and work our way from there.
Opinions?

What good would come from discussing powers when we don't know what those powers will be?
How do you know which prayers are attached to the Mafioso?
I don't much care what the powers are.
I only care that the mafia are not the ones to get them.
The two ways we can achieve this is if none of us ask for powers, or if we all ask for the power from the same goddess.
Not using powers will probably be very hard in this setup, with 3 mafias and 9 town, or so I would guess from the flavor.
If we do ask for powers, we can call on the same goddess repeatedly so that the mafia will not get access to too many abilities, and 3 powers vs 9 powers will be a good bet, I think.
If we all pray to the same goddess, as well, there will be 6 powers granted, and we can hope that they do not go to the 3 mafia. This is already the best we can do to lower their chances, as if we split up, and the mafia concentrate on one goddess, at least one of them is likely to receive the power.
Actually, I'm not sure about this. If anyone's well versed in probabilities, maybe he/she can show us how we can arrange ourselves to lower the chances of Mafia gaining power as much as possible.
Void's questioning of you does not mesh with his voting of you. In addition, the question makes little sense from a scumhunting standpoint and he is so jumpy he even forgot to vote you while he was questioning you. Finally, I haven't been wrong about Void's alignment in a looong time. He has recently changed his playstyle but has not learned how to conceal his feigned thought process as scum.

"At the end of each Day, for every 2 prayers to a Goddess, 1 Ability of that type will be granted."
As the powers are assigned at random according to who votes for a goddess, we end up with either 6 powers granted (even number praying to a god only) or 5 (odd numbers praying for a god), assuming we all pray.
So we want an even split on how we pray, 12/0/0, 4/4/4, whatever as more abilties will favour town as there are more of us.
The overall probability of mafia gaining an ability is roughly the same no matter how we split . What differs is the range of possible outcomes.
Rougly mafia will gain 3/12 * 6 abilties = 1.5 abilties gained on average.
With smaller splits the resulting distribution will be more likely to land on the average with mafia gaining 1-2 abilties.
With the all on one god approach, you introduce the possibility of a blowout either way. Mafia all gaining abilities or gaining none at all. The extremes have a higher probability when we all bail in together, but the proability of an extreme is low overall.
The major problem with chooses for everybody to pray the same way is how to we decide which goddess is better for town without revealing role information to scum. Letting players choose their own god is probably the best approach because then they can attempt to activate the best ability for them each day.
Pray to Aisa vote: Cythare - Gotta kill bill again

This. When we can choose between three abilities each it's silly to be forced into one (in an example, we all decide to pray to one of the gods, but my ability is pretty much useless at this stage of the game, and what I really want it to find out what my other abilities does..)
I think the best play is for everyone to choose whom to pray to and try to unlock the hidden abilities so we actually know what powers we posess.
@Iso: What exactly is there in Voids single post that makes this his scumgame? I don't get it. I do agree that RVS is definately over though.

@Aud: Void is nervous. Town Void is bold. Scum Void is not. If you can explain sufficiently how Void's actions come from a pro-town mindset and can convince me then I will consider otherwise.

Is he? I thought the same thing about storytellers post, I think. He suggests not using powers, which is odd and I first considered that pretty anti-town mathwise (9 against 3)* but now I see that he probably ment day-actions should not be used early. And that makes sense. The second line of Voids post is strange though, I don't see where in Storytellers post it is suggested that he knows which gods scum want to pray to.
[s]*I took this number from jdis post, but how is this certain? 3/9 is probably the logical way for the setup, but it looks like he actually knows. Is it inside information, or is there something I haven't read[s] Nevermind, three gods, three stones in the pick of the OP probably means three thingies stolen and logically three scum.

So...you agree with me, then? Because Void's question was not a scumhunting question. That means it should not have a vote attached to it. That, as well as the afterthought nature of the vote indicates that Void is not actually scumhunting but wants to put up the appearance of scumhunting. Town do not need to do this. Scum do.

I suggested concentrating on a single goddess because if we do, say, go 4 to a goddess, and the mafia concentrate on a certain goddess, then it's almost guaranteed that they will get at least 1, possibly 2 abilities.
On the other hand, if we all concentrate on a single goddess, then there's no such thing as the mafia concentrating in a small group, so there comes a chance of there being 0 powers for the mafia.

Well, I suppose there IS the fact that his questions make no sense in face of my post.
I never even once referenced what powers there were or which roles are associated with mafia/town, but rather whether or not we should be using powers at all, regardless of what they are.
Then again, I'm not even sure that's what he's pointing to because his questions make no sense to me. How do I know which prayers are attached to the mafioso? What? What does that question even mean?
Either way, before we go through to a full lynching of the guy, I'd like to hear his rebuttal. In a previous game, I pushed for a lynch because i knew who 2/3 town power roles were and that the guy wasn't a vanilla townie, and decided to pile votes on him to get him to role claim. He never showed up to defend himself, and he was lynched the town doc. Sad day.

@storyteller 1: unvote greymon good call by you. Haven't had a game with that requirement since playing here.
@iso: I disagree with the timing of the vote argument. Given myself having to make a double post not long after him, I can see it be due to tiredness. That point is not enough to cause suspicion.
But the questions do not yield a vote. I agree there. I'm interested in that. I can see a nonscum reason for the vote but I'll wait for void to say why.
@storyteller 2: if void is quicklynched and flips town, we have immediate suspects in the last 2 voters. But given setup, we will take our time planning things

"What is going on here? I just pulled you all out of a burning building! You could have easily died in there! You should be grateful to be alive, or in shock, or.. or grieving over the thousands of innocent victims. But not this, not fighting and at each other's throats. What in the world happened down there?"
There is usually 3 scum in a 12 person setup. King Arthur mafia, Social Engineering and Vampire were all 3/9 setups, I assumed this one would be the same

Ok time for some combinatrics. (Combinatric as order doesnt matter.)
All on one goddess of mafia getting ability.
Total number of possibilities = 12C6 = 924
0 abilities for mafia = 9C6 / 924 = 84/924 = 9.1% 1 ability for mafia = 9C5 x 3 / 924 = 126 x3 = 378/924 = 40.9% 2 abilties for mafia = 9C4 x 3 /924 = 378/924 = 40.9% 3 abilities for mafia = 9C3 / 924 = 84/924 = 9.1%
This shows what I said before the mafia are likely to end up with 1-2 abilities even if we all vote for the same goddess. Is the 9.1% chance of them getting none worth an equal chance of them getting 3 plus restricting the abilities we can attempt to activate, I think not.
I can try do the probablities of the split groups in full but essentially the average will be 1-2 as I stated earlier with a slightly higher probability and less chance of the two extremes.
The only way to reduce the average number of abilities gained by mafia is to have mafia vote in an odd split group, however we cannot force mafia do this and it reduces the number of abilities gained in total by 1.

So what you are saying is everyone pray to what diety they want, because we can't really skew the outcome anyway? That sounds fair, reasonable and pretty uncomplicated. Thanks for doing the math.

Correct we cannot skew the chance to favour town more, we can only choose to give more probability to extreme results.
Restricting who people can pray to for the 9.1% shot of mafia been screwed seems poor especially when there is an equal chance of them going full power.
Really we want even splits, to maximise abilities granted as this is the best way to favour town.

Smile your day could be worse, so I did smile and it was worse.
I obviously didnt like the logic in storyteller's post as it resticted the abilities that could be granted (if we all had to pray to the same goddess).
What good would come from discussing powers when we don't know what those powers will be?
How do you know which prayers are attached to the Mafioso?
Void's first question is an odd one, as storyteller's motivation for discussing powers is clear, to attempt to deny mafia powers.
The second question looks like an accusation but Story never tried to discern which prayers were mafia, in fact his proposed plans didnt care about the alignment of any individual.
The vote is disconnected from his questions and looks like a serious vote, but he hasnt really presented why he thinks story is scum, just a couple of questions.
Waiting to see his reply to current case.

storyteller, don't just defer to my meta call on Void! Do you agree with my reasoning or not, and why?
Shark, Void's vote was a hasty afterthought and his questioning is awkward. It shows nervousness.
Joining this party a little late. I agree that Void's vote as a separate post looked weird, but storyteller's post that he responded to also seemed strange to me. After a little more review (and the fact that no one really did the math until jdisawesomesauce), I'm okay with disregarding storyteller's post for now, since without any thought, I would have also assumed that all on the same god might be more helpful. Also, a little surprised how quickly Void has gotten three votes, but beyond that, I'm concerned that Iso has already asked others to vote for him on multiple occasions (#29 and #34), which seems questionable and rushed to me.

You take your time as you carefully finish getting dressed.
Pregame
You sit down at a large table, already covered in various dishes of delicious smelling food, with several friends from your church.
Everyone is dead.

6) Other win conditions are possible on an individual basis.
Vote: Pinkfloyd because that band sucks
Pray to Clothos because praying is awesome
Let's continue the feud from another forum -.-
Should we discuss what we should do with our powers?
I'm not sure if we should be encouraging the use of powers right now or not.
From what I can see, there are 2 better choices:
We can all pray to the same goddess so that we can decrease the chances of Mafia gaining powers, or we could just decide not to use powers at all, and work our way from there.
Opinions?

Sad day.

With 12 alive, it takes 7 to Lynch. The deadline is set for the 7th of October.
0 abilities for mafia = 9C6 / 924 = 84/924 = 9.1%
1 ability for mafia = 9C5 x 3 / 924 = 126 x3 = 378/924 = 40.9%
2 abilties for mafia = 9C4 x 3 /924 = 378/924 = 40.9%
3 abilities for mafia = 9C3 / 924 = 84/924 = 9.1%

I obviously didnt like the logic in storyteller's post as it resticted the abilities that could be granted (if we all had to pray to the same goddess).
