Well I'm afraid I'm not able to navigate the website well enough or get the right hits in the search bar. I'd imagine Theros would be for "Friends" or "Blood"

In Greek mythology, the name Thero (Θηρώ "feral, beastly") may refer to:
A reputed nurse of Ares. Local inhabitants of Therapne in Sparta believed that Theriates, a surname of Ares, had been derived from her name. Pausanias remarks that outside Therapne, Thero was completely unknown to the Greeks, and supposes that this mythological figure could have been of Colchian origin, considering the fact that the statue of Ares Theriates was believed to have been brought from Colchis by the Dioscuri.
Daughter of Phylas and Leipephilene, and sister of Hippotes. By Apollo she became mother of Chaeron, eponym of Chaeronea.
A follower of Artemis.
Let's ride with "Nurse of Ares"
THERO was the Naiad Nymph of the spring, well or fountain of the town of Therapne in Lakedaimonia (Laconia) (southern Greece). She was the nurse of the god Ares.
Her name is derived from the word thêr, a wild carnivorous beast, as does the name of her town Therapne. The second part of the town's name comes from the word "apnoos", lifeless or breathless.
So, we're talking about a Nymph, a beast, a follower of Artemis (Goddess of Hunt and Wilderness) and the Nurse of the God of war.
So, Theros is very strongly attached to a Unique person, who serves the Gods and is emblematic and feared on her own merits. A Female name, linked to Healing, Hunting and War.
So... if we talk about Magic, and we talk about colors, this rings very GBR. But probably nothing that will actually relate to all 3. I THINK More R/G
The only R/G Guild is the Gruul Clans, which is in Gatecrash.
Now, we can have a very good idea of what's POSSIBLE to relate to Theros. But not what it is... it's not the guild leader, that's an already shown Cyclops with another name...
So, we're talking about a Nymph, a beast, a follower of Artemis (Goddess of Hunt and Wilderness) and the Nurse of the God of war.
It wouldn't be past Wizards to reuse names of other literary/mythical characters (though MaRo denies Tybalt), and there has been a spike in hopes for a Greco-Roman theme since the announcement of "Friends, Romans, & Countrymen"
It's possible I guess to see in Gatecrash? But I am doubtful. It seems late. And the Gruul guild leader is Borborygmos, loosely based off the technical name for stomach growls
Well if they're looking for another broad theme (like Classic Horror) to do another top-down designed block (like Innistrad) then Ancient Greek mythology would be one of those other areas. It's been done many, many times in popular culture (everything from Clash of the Titans, to Disney's Hercules, to Xena, to O Brother Where Art Thou) and most people are familiar with the major characters, places and stories.

I feel like this doesn't need to be pointed out to most of you but others may not realize that the code names have 0 bearing on the themes of their sets.
A Greco-Roman theme would be fun, but the chances that "friends" block is that block are very low. We also have an upcoming "Egypt" theme floating around somewhere.

Theros in greek means summer or harvest. It seems unlikely they will do both a greco-roman and an ancient egypt block, so perhaps they'll do a unified ancient block (greek, roman, egyptian, babylonian, etc.)?
That could be interesting. Each color would have its own society--black is Egyptian, blue is Greek, white is Roman, red is nomadic desert tribes, green is Carthaginian*. Something along those lines anyway.

One of those could be Norse maybe. I think we already have a plane that's shown up on some recent cards with a Norse vibe to it if I'm remembering right?
I'm gonna go ahead and guess it's probably just the name of the next world.

Which would also make it the name of the next block (Mirrodin, Kamigawa, Ravnica, Lorwyn, Shadowmoor, Alara, Zendikar, Innistrad blocks) are all named after their respective planes. The only ones that don't fit this are Dominaria blocks, super old stuff like Arabian Nights, and revisits of old planes like Scars block or Return.

Carthian? Best hits on google suggests a vampire clan in a RPG.
I hope you're right about the rest, it sounds awesome.
I think that person meant Carthaginian. Anyways, I just suspect this means the next block (the one after RTR) will have a Greco-Roman theme. Also, where is this Ancient Egypt idea coming from?
If it is a Ancient Greece themed block, I hope they put a lot of emphasis on Legendary creatures. I've always thought that'd a be a good theme to use to try and redo the idea of Kamigawa, as the myths and such have a lot of emphasis on heroes and whatnot and people are WAY more familiar with it than the Shinto religion that Kamigawa was based off of. Well, Western peoples, anyways.

As long as they don't overdo it like they did in Kamigawa.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
You know what they could do that i would actually like? If they decided that it's time to tone down the epic fantasy and focus a bit more of old school epic.
Like, Give me a bit less Jace Vs Nicol Bolas, give me a bit more "Troy and Sparta" y'know?
Have the gods on the back, playing pawns with the leaders of the world, sure... but a more "human" and "grounded" theme like in the early sets ( a very "Arabian Nights" theme for example) would be a cool breather before we juice it up again to nearly Anime levels of Powah.
