Default [CS] in new InQuest: Flash Freeze

Lots of stuff we already have. What I don't recognize:

Soul Spike pic Counterbalance pic Blizzard Specter pic Karpulsan Minotaur pic

"green gets to blow things up with an exploding Char land"
-no idea what that means

Slugs and Cat Warriors reappear as creature types.

Flash Freeze 1U, Counter target Red or Green spell.

Deathmark is an instant.

Blue and Green have the most snow permanents/related spells.

That's about it.

Actually within the entire mag there's only one new card image, and that's for Soul Spike. Sorry I'd scan it myself if I had a scanner.

It is probably referring to the Mouth of Ronom land that uses snow mana and deals 4 damage to target creature (sacrificing the land in exchange). This gives green the ability to blow things up, and it gives it to all the other colours as well, but green had nothing equivalent.

Might that be Mouth of Ronom? It deals four damage, same as Char. Of course, every colour gets to use it, but green usually aren't capable of removing (non-flying) creatures, outside of combat.

Flash Freeze is a great card for Blue Mages vs Gruul/Zoo/etc, on par with Deathmark for one of the best color hosers in a long time.

Thanks for the info Caliban, I'm sure well have this spoiler completed in no time now dude!

Woo. For the kind of decks you'd side it in against, it's pretty much a hard counter for 1U. Close to Gainsay, but affecting two colours instead, and Gainsay saw a fair amount of play.

So the Sceptre, Counterbalance, this and (probably) Controvert - not a bad haul of countermagic for a small set.

But coming off of a multicolor block, this is extra powerful since it also hits Lightning Helix, Loxodon Hierarch and a host of other goodies.

Flash Freeze encouraged me to look up this article: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/mr169 In it, he hints that “Counter target red or green spell” would be costed at 1U and explains why. Not really important to this card, but it's just interesting to see it finally get made.

Aladdin's Ring anyone ?
Sometimes I'm surprised to see that artifacts can do something that some color will never do. Ark Of Blight for instance. Why not lands ?

Yep. I like it a lot.

Only three guilds escape it completely - Azorius, Dimir and Orzhov. One guild's red and green (Gruul), three have red (Rakdos, Boros, Izzet) and three have green (Selesnya, Simic, Golgari).

I wonder how close it is to being worth maindecking. I guess it'll depend on which decks are most popular when Coldsnap comes in.

Flash Freeze, huh? Damn... I was hoping they'd keep holding off printing this card. I love green and red.

Flash Freeze is great. Get your four quickly, it'll be a two dollar plus uncommon.

That is the second third best counterspell in the Ice Age block!

Seriously, anyone even splashing blue should consider this card. I absolutely love it. Thank you, Wizards, for printing overpowered colour hosing. Now please make White the brokenessed!

Shade to the rescue!

Y'know what's really funny? InQuest already has Coldsnap cards in their "Hot 10 Magic Cards" with prices attached, despite the fact that the set isn't even out yet.

For anyone interested:

1) Sunscour - 12.00
3) Soul Spike - 10.00
5) Ohran Viper - 7.00
6) Commandeer - 6.00
7) Scrying Sheets - 6.00
8) Jester's Scepter - 6.00

Soul Spike? Are you serious? Can you say overcosted? It would be good if Necro was still around, but...4x Necro decks ended a long time ago. Necro is unbanned in Ice Age block, so this card will be a house there, but who plays Ice Age block?
