I consider this an evolution of Venser control with a touch of T2 Tezzerator and a spoon of Bant Pod (without the Pod or the Bant ).
It is an idea that started crawling my mind a little while ago when venser rotated out of T2, but I just wanted to keep playing this guy.
This decks purpose is to create a rather mid-tempo mana advantage to assume total control with mindslaver locks, stonehorn-venser or spine-venser bounces.
Venser, the Sojourner: The reason this deck is here. He is our main ''flciker-er'', he builds up loyalty pretty quick with proliferate and his ulti is pretty much a game ender. Why not a 4-of? Because he is not a mandatory win-con, plus he is a planeswalker who dies pretty hard, so why fill our hand with him? Tezzeret's Gambit: 4-of instantly. With 3 mana, draw 2 and proliferate, on our Everflowing Chalices, on our Planeswalkers and on the -1/-1 counters on our opponent's creeps? Seems sweet. Everflowing Chalice: Tutor-able with Trinket Mage, our main mana accelerator. Nothing more needed.
Support:
Trinket Mage/Treasure Mage: Our tutors. While the former digs up our early game, the latter digs up our win-cons such as Wurmcoil Engine, Platinum Angel etc. Stonehorn Dignitary: Pair him with Venser and ensure you'll never go down. Spine of Ish Sah: Make it onto the battlefield, flicker it and break all lands, PWs and creatures down. Solemn Simulacrum: A basic accelator from 4 to 6 and a card drawer, with a body able to block the early creatures.
Defense:
Restoration Angel/Ghostly Flicker: Protect your creature from removal, your artifacts from this nasty naturalize and double-up these ''enters the battlefield'' effects. The great difference between those two is that Ghostly Flicker costs 1cmc less and it is able to flicker artifacts and lands. Restoration angel can only save cretures but has a blocking body as a surprise. Use wisely according the metagame. Mindslaver: Add it with Academy Ruins and 12 mana, and lock your opponent eternally. 12 mana might be a lot in a control deck, but not on THIS control deck. Tumble Magnet: ''Tap that Emrakul please. *flickers stonehorn* *3 turns later* ehm, tap him again.'' Contagion Engine: Board Sweeper and an awesome proliferator. Gideon Jura: Come on, this guy is THE best defense and offense all around. Do we really need to say more? Platinum Angel: Her effect.
Optional:
Elspeth, Knight-Errant: Protecting herself, making your Mages go in for 5s and her ulti protects your whole board. Mox Opal: Metalcraft is not as easy as it seems in this deck, yet this little guy is 1 free mana more/turn and you can tutor it. Remand: Mainly for its draw power. I really like Mana Leak too, and I will surely try out Fuel for the Cause eventually.
Other Suggestions: Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas: A personal fav, yet he has no REAL use in this deck apart from digging for Wurmcoil and Contagion. His ulti will burst for 8-10 damage though which is pretty good. Messes up the mana base a little bit. Tezzeret, the Seeker: See above. Blightsteel Colossus: Useless card more often than not. Our mana accelaration is not THAT fast, plus i do think of him as a main part of the Shape Anew combo. Feel free to try him out.
All feedback is welcome. I shall keep updating this thread constantly. Thank you.
