Wrench MindBB
Sorcery
Target player discards two cards unless he or she discards an artifact card.
now, in a format as diverse as modern, this seems like a potent sleeper. obviously dreadful against affinity and tron, but against literally everything else it will be two cards. thoughtseize/inquisition/duress curve into it very well. it curves into liliana of the veil very well.
what i've found about this card is that it punishes mulligans HARD. two mana is a low investment for having that kind of effect. just playing it in tandem with other disruption makes for a very thin pool of cards that your opponent must win off of.
the question is, is it not as good as i think it is? or has everyone seriously overlooked this long-forgotten sorcery?
It's bad in this format, in my opinion. You'd much rather force specific cards than hit two random cards. It isn't Blightning that make people mad, it's Thoughtseize and Inquisition. Add to this that there are decks that will gladly discard an artifact and laugh at you. While there's still a playable artifact deck (Affinity), there's no way this card will take off. You're now paying BB for "discard any card you want". The average case is still probably not better than T1 discard or T3 Blightning.
Thing is, all hand disruption is good against a mull. Most decks rely on using certain cards, so your 1 mana discard spell is likely just as good against my mull. But you can't really say "it's good when they mull" as an excuse to play this card. You want to play cards that are always good, not cards that are predicate on certain things happening.
If you're playing >6 discard spells, then sure, I can see Wrench Mind not being that bad. I'd still playing Thoughtseize/Inquisition over it, but once you're out of that range, then it's fine. I also think it's better than Blightning, I hate Blightning.
A few months ago, I tried a BUG Delver deck, essentially replacing the burn with discard, trimming down the curve, and adding Dark Confidants and Wrench Minds. While I wound up constantly siding it out game 2 against Affinity or Tron or random Thirst for Knowledge control decks or what-have-you, it was quite powerful, and would frequently put opponents in a tough situation to beat. It's definitely playable, but it would require the metagame to be shifted slightly towards combo or slower decks and doesn't yet have a good home.

Seriously though, cards good. Been playing around with a BUG Control deck since the format started. It's about to get better.
