look through the "pauper dreamcrusher" thread by Dosu to grab all the staples (tutors, ramp spells, kill cards, etc.) to get a solid foundation, then start working out a theme so we can give you some good suggestions.
One thing is, however, I don't recommend a 5 color deck if you're simply building for an event. 5 color decks are hard to play with top tier cards, and they're even more confusing at pauper level with all the junk you have to make due with. I often make misplays with my 3 color pauper deck and I've had it together for a couple months now (although admittedly I'm not the best player around, either). Unless you have months to fine tune and test and really feel out how your deck will run, I recommend 3 or maybe even just 2 colors.

The rules we are using:
General must be an uncommon creature, doesn't matter if Legendary or not.
The rest of the deck must be all common, or cards that where once printed at common. (example: Mind Stone is legal.)
I decided on Dragonsoul Knight, he seems to be an amazing beater. And since I'm using all colors I figured I would have an answer for everything.
I wanna hear what the community thinks I should add into this deck.
Numot - Retired
the overlooked ones, off the top of my head:
lignify (the off-white journey to nowhere)
encrust (another great journey to nowhere substitute that also works on artifacts)
scrapdiver serpent
elgaud shieldmate
eyeblight's ending/rend flesh (I've found murder to simply be too color intensive)
faceless butcher (especially combo'd with ghostly flicker or capsize)
2 pauper infinite combos are:
krosan restorer/freed from the real
midnight guard/presence of gond
