In slow grindy matches (and therefore in slow, grindy cubes) it can be a workhorse. It was far too slow and lackluster in my cube though, so it got the axe. I much prefer Perilous Myr. It can kill the other attacking creature, or trade with the 3/3 it chumped so you don't take tons of damage from their threat(s) before it finally comes back.
I'm thinking about giving him a shot to go in the smallpox type decks black is playing more and more of in my cube nowadays. He's pretty underwhelming the first time around though, so we'll have to see if a card that is that bad of a topdeck is any good.
He seems like a 1/1 for two, but he is so much more:
- cheap artifact for Tinker that comes back
- Early blocker, 4/4 later
- "survives" (own) wrath effects
- sac. outlet
He was played in the MTGO cube multiple times against me and always caused problems.
