I can see the value of Contested War Zone in THD when both my ally and I are using tribal/weenie decks and doing a massive swing, but what about 1V1?
I find the card to be a risky gamble. If I can't finish off the enemy the same turn I play Contested War Zone, it's most likely that my opponent will swing at me next turn and use the card against me, this is especially true against Red and Black decks.
Contested War Zone also simply takes up a slot in my hand, as it isn't likely for me to play it unless I'm going to activate its ability and strike the final blow on the same turn, playing simply to tap it for 1C is just too risky.
With that being said, do you think Contested War Zone would fit in my mono-white knights deck, replacing 4 basic Plains?
Nope. You only want it against control, and control isn't doing so well. Maybe against combo too, but you might as well just play more creatures instead of CWZ if that's the case, since combo doesn't run a lot of removal.
warzone really shines when you can have a full field of hasty dude before your opponent really get going. unless, like everything in your deck is a 1-drop I don't see it being very good. modern is a format where they will often have enough blockers to make warzone fairly ineffective (as opposed to Zen/SoM standard Kuldotha red where a warzone could easilly be 6+ extra points of damage on turn 3)

This land serves aggressive decks pretty well, however, if you're opponent is also on the beat down plan this land just becomes a free annex for them. Secondly, it taps for colorless, so making it a 4-of, even in a mono-colored deck, is really risky.
This card is really cool, so I'd give it a try for your deck, but definitely don't run 4. Maybe 1 or 2. Also, it may be necessary to side it out against other aggro decks like burn with lots of creatures.
I absolutely hate this card. It really doesn't do things well enough that I want it. You get in a couple of damage, they get the land so they can beat you down, or they can ramp. The fact is, it's just not being used against some decks, because I don't particularly want Pod or Storm to get ramp.
You have to ask yourself, how good is +1/+0 to all creatures? Personally, I think it's not that powerful. How often are you going to have enough creatures to do significant damage? Maybe in Affinity but that's about it.

Actually, I could see elf aggro running it. They play a ton of creatures. It could help to alpha strike a turn earlier. But yes, the colorless mana is the biggest concern here.
...also, elf aggro really isn't played that much anymore for some reason.
