Im aware of the sets that are currently extended legal, but is there a rotation for extended, how often does it happen, when is the next one, and how many sets will rotate out, and which will they be for the next one if it is to occur.

Extended rotated last October (when Ravnica became legal in Constructed), and will rotate again in three years (so that should be October of 2009, unless I can't do math this morning). That means that 7th Edition will leave the format at that time (as it is the oldest Core set), along with Invasion block, Odyssey block, and Onslaught block.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.
...Something tells me that even should all arcane casters in the world unite, that the Grease spell would NOT be sufficient.
hmmm I wonder if the format by then will be dominated by affinity still? Lots of decks will go bye bye by that time Ichiorid, Gobs madness just to name a few
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.

You can't do your math this morning. Three years from last October is 2008.:D

Both 7th and 8th should rotate out. The core sets rotate out based on whether or not they were printed during the blocks that are still in the format. 8th was printed before Mirrodin (the first legal block), so it will rotate out.
Which unfortunately means we're stuck with Affinity and Tooth and Nail for a long while yet.
2009? I wonder if people will still PLAY Magic then.
You know... I figure eventually people will stop playing magic. I just can't picture Magic being around in like 50 years with a block coming out every year.

Q: "What sets will be legal after the next Extended rotation?"
-- Fernando
Osorno, Chile
A: From John Grant, DCI Policy Manager:
"Many thanks for your question, Fernando. This is how Extended rotates:
"Every three years, three blocks (nine sets) of cards rotate out of Extended on the same day as the scheduled Standard rotation. The first implementation of this Extended rotation occurs on October 20, 2005. On that date, a new set, code-named Control, will rotate into the Extended environment. The format's three oldest blocks, Rath Block (Tempest, Stronghold, Exodus), Urza Block (Urza's Saga, Urza's Legacy, Urza's Destiny), and Masques Block (Mercadian Masques, Nemesis and Prophecy) will rotate out.
"Base sets released during the same period as a departing block also rotate out of Extended. For example, Sixth Edition, also known as Classic, was released during Urza Block and will rotate out of Extended on October 20, 2005.
"This rotation explanation will be included in the January 2005 Magic: the Gathering Floor Rules.
"Note that when Control becomes available for Magic Online in November 2005, “Online Extended” and “paper Extended” will be identical formats.
"So, finally, an answer to your question, Fernando -- the card sets that will be legal in the Extended format on October 20, 2005:"
Seventh Edition
Eighth Edition
Ninth Edition (to be released Summer, 2005)
Invasion
Planeshift
Apocalypse
Odyssey
Torment
Judgment
Onslaught
Legions
Scourge
Mirrodin
Darksteel
Fifth Dawn
Champions of Kamigawa
Betrayers of Kamigawa
Saviors of Kamigawa
Code name: Control
Now, 8th Edition was released in 2003; which is the same time that Onslaught Block was also released. So, yes, that would mean that based on the timing when Onslaught rotates out, that 8th should rotate out as well. Thanks for pointing that out!
