I've noticed that this card is growing in popularity and with a good reason, as a SB card it has been absolutely amazing for me. Let's see, against:
-Infect: kills all their dudes without them doing nothing about it, has already won me some games.
-Affinity: kills their ravagers efficiently and without troublesome sacrificing shenanigans.
-Nivmagus combo: obliterates their main win condition if they take it out on turn 2 (on the play) or if they don't inmediately pump it. Also kills fiends.
-Jund: kills deathrite shaman without you losing any life or them gain any mana/life.
-Delver: kills their namesake creature even if they have a hand full of counters
-Martyr life: kills martyr and they don't gain life from it.
-Merfolk: kills their lords without fear of another Vial-induced "lord effect" ruining your plans.
-UR Storm: so they can't cast rituals in response to you killing their Electromancer.
All in all, a great techy card for the current metagame I think!! :D:cool2:
yes, that is true. Most players won't do that, though, and will play martyr one turn and then wait around for a bit. The usual "in response" trigger will get it for sure with sudden shock at that point provided that it's not in response to a sacrifice attempt of it's ability.

I've been seeing people run this just a little bit and it's been doing well... I personally think it's a pretty cool tech, especially if your meta is filled with people playing infect decks and such. You just get their dudes and there is literally nothing they can do about it.

Not with the way most Martyr players play. Most of them try to get 'value' by waiting for a removal spell. If Sudden Shock suddenly goes up in popularity, Martyr players will start popping them right away.
This card would be good against Martyr, and many other decks. 1BB is a pain to cast, but when it's essentially guaranteeing a kill, it's very good. Still, I think most decks that would want to play this should have better spot removal.
Also, idk what decks you guys are playing that Martyr is a problem with. I never lose to that deck, it just durdles more than I'm comfortable with a deck doing, and the fact it's mono white is relevant.

Playing against bad players on your part doesn't mean the deck itself is bad. Also, it's not just Mono-White. There are many variants of the deck.

One correction: deathrite can still tap for mana.

False. Deathrite Shaman's ability is not a mana ability, despite producing mana.
