[DGM] – Announcing Dragon's Maze

I assume the "Dragon's Maze" is the network of leylines that Bori Andon discovered in last week's Uncharted Realms story, which is what Niv-Mizzet's been trying to understand and gain control over. It seems that maybe he'll succeed.

Obvious part: Dragon = Niv, MAYBE Bolas, maybe both (Oh god, that fight would be frigging awesome.)
The maze...hmm.
Okay, let's take the 'maze' thing a little less directly. As of right now, there are...four confirmed planeswalkers on Ravnica? Maybe five if someone shows up in Gatecrash as well as Gideon (Large sets normally have two planeswalkers, right?). Anyway, that gives us:
1. Jace
2. Gideon
3. Ral Zarek
4. Vraska
5. Unknown Simic/Grull/mono-colored (I doubt it would be Orzhov as two WB 'walkers in the same standard format would be weird) planeswalker.

This gives us 3, maybe 4, out of 5 planeswalkers with at LEAST one Izzet color involved. Now, assuming Niv is trying to unravel the secrets of the multiverse or something, the hardest would be the planeswalker spark. Now, Ravnica's physical composition is twisted, as is its politics right now. So, the maze could be referring to this fact, and that Niv-Mizzet (Or bolas, I guess...) is luring as many 'walkers (Izzet-related, out of arrogance) to Ravnica as possible in order to study them by aggravating the current situation.

There. Wild theory #1 is out there.

I think the name is great. Has a nice fantasy feel to it. A good change from [name of location][adverb] names for blocks.

Looking at the guild symbol I like how it now seems like a gate with a key ruin like hole in the center.

It's Niv's plotline basically, we learn what hes been up to....hence Dragon's Maze....

I thought Gatecrash was a little strange, but Dragon's Maze? Feels like a strange name, especially later on after the block rotates.

Happy to see Ral's going to have a presence.

I must say, I have not been this excited at the announcement of a set name and info since... well, since RTR was announced, I guess, but whatevs.

Unlike most people here, I actually really like the name. It's pretty cool, and it really seems to describe the flavor of the set (ironically, while giving away pretty much nothing at all (though GTC flavor texts might shed a little light on the subject)). Oh, and for anybody who thinks the Dragon in question might be Bolas instead of Niv, Maro has already explicitly confirmed that Bolas will not be influencing events in RTR block.

Almost-confirmation of Ral Zarek is REALLY cool, it would be AWESOME to finally have an Izzet 'walker.

Also, I just LOVE that the set symbol is the RTR and GTC symbols combined (you see, 5 guilds then 5 guilds then ALL OF THE GUILDS!).

Also, the tagline is a bit of a puzzler: "Ten guilds, one destination."

THEORY: The project that Niv-Mizzet was working on all block (possibly with some help from Jace) is a planeswalking machine (like what Venser was trying to make, or what I believe the old Phyrexians used, unless I'm mistaken), and for some reason or another (likely due to the events of Gatecrash) Niv is now evacuating the guilds from Ravnica to some other plane (whatever the "one destination" may be). Alternatively, he has united the guilds into an army and is using the aforementioned planeswalking machine to travel to Zendikar/New Phyrexia to take on the Eldrazi/Phyrexians.

I saw it as a flying dragon It's strange, but probably weird was the intention.

I am unsure, but I believe I had read on the mothership or somewhere that Bolas would NOT be involved in the block. I am horrible at find this kind of stuff, but I cannot recall where I had read this. I believe it was from MaRo himself.

As for the set, I am intrigued. Can't wait to see how it all unravels!

And that is Ral. I remember when people were speculating that it wasn't Liliana in the Innistrad announcement or not Sorin in the Dark Ascencion announcement.

Uhh, yeah, MaRo's not always been the best sort of information for this stuff. In fact, I'm pretty sure he's outright lied to us a few times.

i'm guessing the maze is some izzet machine which takes up a large part of the core of the plane, which does some insanely powerful thing, effectively turning the plane into a Level 1 Civilization on the Kardashev scale. after that, its machinations and manasurges do X, where X is something badass involving Phyrexians, Eldrazi, or Bolas.
