I love the effect but I'd rather play Forked Bolt. They both have their pros and cons but when dealing with Thalia I'd rather have a cheaper spell that is more versatile (even without Thalia). I've mainboarded Forked Bolt in WUR Delver and I can say I love it.
I was going to say how much better Gut Shot is, but you are looking at the benefits of the Overload part.
I'd say Electrickery is a fine card, but very narrow. Against pretty much everything other than someone casting Lingering Souls, Spectral Procession or a whole slew of Squadron hawks, I'd rather have Forked Bolt. It's cheaper and can always send 1 or even 2 to the dome.
If you want some more punch, there's always the option to play Arc Trail or even Flames of the Firebrand. But if we're looking at Flames, I'd rather have Bonfire of the Damned.
But please, don't dissolve this thread into a discussion of the Miracle mechanic.
This is not how bans/unbans work. Its always the enabler that gets the ban, not the card that is being abused. If you would have Yawgmoths will + whatever cards - it would be Yawgs that would be banned. If you would have Stoneforge and batterskull - it would be stone who would be banned and that is exactly how it works. Furthermore, banning a card in order to unban a different card is a thought process that was and wont be never applied in practical means.
Cons
Can't be cast for 1 mana only
Sorcery speed
Can't hit Shroud/Hexproof targets
Pyroclasm Pros
Hits Shroud and Hexproof
Deals significantly more damage per mana to the board than the other options
Kills other creatures Electrickery doesn't (Insectile Aberration, for example)
Cons
Also affects your board
Don't deal damage to players
Sorcery speed
Bonfire of the Damned Pros
Deals damage to both your enemy and his guys
Hits Shroud and Hexproof guys
Can kill other creatures Electrickery can't (Insectile Aberration, for example)
Cons
Quite costly for the effect
Sorcery speed
Maybe this helps some people to better analyze these cards.
PS: I do realize Bonfire's swingyness. But again, this should not be topic of the debate, as it fulfills the same role as Electrickery, even when hardcast for X=1 (costing 3 mana then).

I'll give you a better reason not to play trickery right now. Shaman. The card cant kill it, something youd perfer to due turn 1. If it was 2, sure. its not, so it misses half the relivant targets it needs to hit.

I do feel it does need to kill deathright. Thats junds delver.
What deck would play this main deck? There are better answers to lingering souls in the sideboard.
I tested it as a 1 of in zoo to be a 7th bolt (after helixes) a lot of delver lists use 1-2 forked bolts over magma jet now too, this would be good for conciteration for them too, but again, it misses half the targets it needs to hit.
I've actually seen Electrickery get popular in RG Artifact Tron sideboards. It manages to contain both Affinity and Infect at the same time (well, at least when they get the wrong draws).
I previously considered it as a one-sided sweeper in my Jund sideboard until I realized that BBE can't Cascade it for profit. Then I switched to Marsh Casualties because it can be Cascaded for profit. Finally, I figured, "Screw Bob; this list doesn't play Lingering Souls and I could use the versatility" and switched to Golgari Charm instead.
I love this card....in Pauper. Modern, there are more powerful options IMO. Forked Bolt and Pyroclasm to take care of swarms, Lightning Bolt for instant speed removal.

Yea, if Deathrite Shaman didn't randomly have an extra 1 toughness than it should (Same with restoration angel, STOP DOING THIS WOTC), than I'd think electrickery would be decently positioned. But because of that 1/2, 3/2 Delver, Goyf, BBelf, plus Fae not being that popular, I don't think it's quite good enough. Bolt or Forked Bolt are much better catch-alls imo.
yeah in black darkblast or zealous persecution is better. if you have blue electrolyze. forked bolt usually better for mono red since it hits 2 toughness as well. bit too narrow
Since it can't go to the face, it's a dead draw against anyone who doesn't have 1-toughness creatures. If you're not hitting more than one creature, Gut Shot is better. In fact, a lot of things are better.
So against things like Clique/Mage/Snapcaster, you're better off taking almost any 1-mana burn spell, since most of them can go to the face or hit tougher creatures. Or both. Against Lingering Souls, it could be good, but there are alternatives that are better against other stuff as well.
It's a cool card, but unfortunately it's just outclassed by so much stuff.
Seems like it would hit affinity, infect, souls and dorks, and UR delver enough to include in a sideboard or two. Maybe even just the UR Delver mirror.
Narrow, but if you expect to face the deck a few times...
I find it indispensable in the sideboard against UR Delver / Pyromancer type decks, Affinity, Pod dorks, and don't forget it kills Bob and Tiago too. It's OK against Lingering Souls, but if you're going against BW tokens with their anthems, Pyroclasm is more reliable. It can also be a post-combat finisher for that one last point of damage - nice trick, but an extreme edge case.

With Lingering Souls becoming more popular in Jund, along with other Token and Martyr stuff going arond, not to mention stuff like Vendilion Clique, Snapcaster Mage and Dark Confidant, how does the card Electrickery look in the current meta?

Forked Bolt, Arc Trail, Flames of the Firebrand and even Bonfire of the Damned are sorcery.
Electrickery is an Instant. It is useful against haste beasts such as Hellspark elemental or just imagine storm going empty the warrens plan, and even casting Goblin Bushwhacker and you cast Electrickery on top of Bushwhacker trigger. (WIN!)
Of course usage of this card depends on your meta.
PS: It is total anihilation in Pauper.

Is there a good reason to play this over Pyroclasm? Probably only if you're playing 1/1s of your own (i.e. R/W Norin).
