people that keep complaining about these products seem to forget about new players, kitchen sink players, younger kids and just overall casual players that might benefit or have fun from cracking open packs, putting messy fun decks together and overall not spazzing all over meta just to enjoy some MTG...
Battle packs are just fine. get down for the high horses will ya |

This art looks like one of those red clash cards to me. I really hope I'm wrong. Limited fight mechanic fodder? Lol

The value is there in this product. I wish they would have more uncommons like 3 or 4 but all in all they are not bad. I might pick one up maybe.

All sealed product with boosters are just as random as a booster box I'm sure (probably moreso, actually). The battlepacks are a great value for new players and a good way to kill some time if you don't have time to draft or make a sealed deck. If you're strictly looking for rares, buying packs is better. |

The half-masks on Dimir assassins seem like a major style guide feature, and the figure in this art has one. Seems pretty likely to be Dimir.
This is almost certainly NOT from a creature card. It's very rare for the art on creature cards to depict the creature in combat with something else. Action poses implying combat are common, but the opponent is almost never depicted (and on the rare cases they are, they're a minor part of the composition and it's extremely obvious who's winning). Not only are the two characters in this art about equally prominent, there's at least a little ambiguity about who's going to win the fight. It's a very safe bet that this is from a non-creature.

Lol, its kitchen table players.
"What happened to your Jace, Timmy?" "It got wet... I'm a kitchen sink player". The Dimir chick is standing on the soldiers leg with momentum to strike. Have you forgotten how badass characters stand on opponents weapons to mock their weak attempts to fight back? Assassin +1. Last edited by zemogFC; 02-05-2013 at 10:19 AM. |

I'm still certain it's not a creature spell. Go on to Gatherer or Magiccards.info and look at all the creatures in a recent set. What you'll notice: - The vast majority depict exactly one character: the creature itself (or creatures if it's a plural name). - A fair number have some other background figures, but still don't show any opponents fighting the main creature. - A very small number have some small opponents/prey to emphasize the size or dynamism of the creature, but even then, the "opponents" are much smaller and are less "fighting" than "being destroyed/eaten." (See Armada Wurm, Tyrant of Discord, or Trestle Troll) - Very rarely, like maybe once per set, you see creature art that shows the creature defeating a similarly-sized opponent. See Ash Zealot or Holy Justiciar for (I think) the only examples from RTR and AVR respectively. Even then, the opponent is at the edge of the frame, lit less well than the central figure, and cringing/cowering in total defeat. If one of these creatures was the very first Magic card you ever picked up, you would still have no doubt whatsoever about which creature in the art is the one represented by the card, and that the named creature is utterly kicking ass. Looking at the Dimir/Boros art with that in mind, it's clear that this is FAR outside the norm for creature art, and it's almost certainly a sorcery or enchantment or something.

The art looks like a standard kill spell
If I had to guess it would probably mirror Ultimate Price in every way except hit multicolor creatures because that guy is obviously Boros. On the topic of pack wars, there is the same value as buying boosters (not much). You can get a playable uncommon, like a charm or something along those lines. They are really fun though, really fun. |
