Whispering madness Creeping tar pit

I have a creeping tar pit animated into a creature. I then cast whispering madness. I then pass turn. Does Creeping tar pit stay encoded?

id say its like putting +1/+1 counters on man lands they stick around till the card is bounced or killed since the ability doesn't act like an aura or equipment.

I believe it's like Giddeon going under mimic Vat. I believe the manland retains the cypher.

It is not an aura or equipment.

Without the exact ruling I am going to assume it follows the same standard of "exiling with ~". As long as it doesn't leave the battlefield it have the association of whatever it exiled.

I can't say for sure without the comprehensive rules for Cipher, but there doesn't seem to be any "as long as its a creature" clause to the duration. So it should remain encoded even when it ceases to be a creature. Note that this is different from it leaving the battlefield, where the specific permanent itself ceases to exist.

Yes, encoding is similar to any other trackers that are non-creature aura, like +1/+1 counters. It retains the encoding regardless of being animated or not as long as it remains on the battlefield.

I know bumping a thread is bad, but I do have some relevant info from Matt Tabak that he posted on his twitter to confirm what Anna said above.

Matt Tabak ‏@TabakRules
Because it's an FAQ: the creature keeps the encoded cipher card even if it changes controllers or stops being a creature, like the Keyrunes.

Sounds like a tagline for Planeswalker Condoms.
