Hello everyone! This project's main thread can be found here.
Design Standards/Goals:
1. This is a 360 card cube. 50 cards in each color, 60 Guild, and 50 Colorless.
2: The majority of card's need to be easily grokkable. Player's are playing with hundreds of cards they've never seen before. Making each design easy to understand will make the whole process alot smoother.
3. Creature card power levels should be around the current design standards, and noncreature card power levels should be around Urza's block design standards. Planeswalker's will be measured on a case by case basis.
4. There will be reprints in this cube (roughly 10%). I will be choosing the most simplistic cube effects used (Think Lightning Bolt and Original Dual lands) and using them to take a bit of work load off of this project, and give the players of a bit of familiarity.
Blazing Figurant1R
Creature - Human Warrior {U}
2/1
Haste
When Blazing Figurant dies, it deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
[Red, C_CMC2]
Blinded Mentor1R
Creature - Human Advisor {C}
2/1
As an additional cost to cast Blinded Mentor, discard a card.
When Blinded Mentor enters the battlefield, draw a card.
[Guild, BW_?]
Vindictive Knight2WB
Creature - Human Knight {R}
2/2
First strike
When Vindictive Knight enters the battlefield, target nonland permanent's controller sacrifices it unless he or she pays 1.
As always, feedback welcome. If there's something you'd like me to give feedback in return, just shoot me a PM or mention it in your post, thanks!
Blazing Figurant - 2/1 and haste would seem a bit much for a "normal" set, but is probably fine here.
Blinded Mentor - Making it an additional cost is opening it up for disappointing plays against counters. There is obviously a benefit if you can put it out without casting it, but that is not very red and more of a strike against it than a benefit. Just a simple red Merfolk Traders would be a really nice common. For a WotC designed card, it would probably be:
When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, (you may?) discard a card. If you do, draw a card.
But for a custom card you could just do normal looting "draw a card, then discard a card."
Just to give you extra ideas, I have been looking for a lot of different ways for doing looting in red. One interesting way is an Elvish Visionary/Exiled Boggart cross.
Goblin Visionary 1R Creature - Goblin Shaman (C)
When CARDNAME enters the field, draw a card.
When CARDNAME leaves the field, discard a card.
2/1
Vindictive Knight - Taxing Nekrataal seems fine, if maybe a little weak. If you make it untargeted like Rishadan Cutpurse, the mana cost could come down a little.
