Hello!
Below, you will find my Trostani, Selesnya's Voice decklist... In case you couldn't tell by the title of the thread...
Any critiques or alternate card choices would be greatly appreciated.
1 Graypelt Refuge (enters tapped in exchange for 1 life, and I'm already kind of high on land..) 2 Selesnya Keyrune (decent ramp, but a near useless creature attached, probably something better for this slot) 3 Oblivion Ring (not pulling weight) 4 Martial Law (doesn't seem to fit, although still quite useful) 5 Courser's Accord (too expensive for the effect unless I already have a decent token to copy) 6 Call of the Conclave (Small-minded) 7 Loxodon Hierarch (he's a cool guy, just not convinced, although, on a side note, I used to believe he regenerated himself as well. Too bad.. Also, more near irrelevant life gain)
And finally, cards I'm considering and/or failed testing:
GU Experiment Kraj- all your abilities belong to us WB Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts- battlecruiser GUB The Mimeoplasm- when graveyards are not safe RGW Mayael the Anima- i luv the fatties
I've got Wurmcoil Engine ;). Moonsilver Spear, Tatsumasa, Riptide Replicator, and Titan Forge all seem a tad pricey.. I'm not really sold on the Golem either, 3 3/3's for 5 is a good price, but I'm thinking either big tokens or ones with utility. Soul Foundry, however, seems really cool. I'll have to proxy one up and see how it does.
I used to run Ageless Entity, I can't remember why I took it out. It is a consideration, but replacing? Ajani's Pridemate seems too dependant on my Commander to be truly effective. I love him in 60 card "Soul Sisters" type decks though. That being said, I think I could get mileage out of Cradle of Vitality, and Well of Lost Dreams was already being considered. I'm not trying to expand the lifegain at the moment. Trostani generally provides enough to keep my actual life total high- Thrax is the real problem... I think Condemn may replace S2P. Giving the opponent life probably won't be relevant, but I don't know how many times I've been locked out of games by being on topdeck mode and thus, only getting 1 creature on the board usually. Eff you, Thrax. That got off-topic quickly.
I like Phyrexian Processor, that's another great suggestion. Sylvan Library would probably be great as well, although I'm loathe to have to many proxies, and it will probably be awhile before my priorities shift towards it. Crovax seems rather out of place to me- Intangible Virtue wouldn't be there, but for the vigilance. Small p/t pumps are less important for me. Inner Sanctum seems okay, although at that point I'd just run Dolmen Gate. I'm not really finding a need to prevent damage outside of Commanders, and Condemn/Oblation seems like where it's at. Righteous Aura loses out for the same reason.
Don't you like Wurmcalling?
In early game you can use it to create chump blockers or clamp fodders (if you decide to put Skullclamp in the deck) and in late game you can use it to generate big tokens (useful with Trostani's populate ability).
Wurmcalling does seem like a strictly better Slime Molding, but the copy I have is foil... Still, though, I may have to make the change.
This is the Trostani deck I play online. Have a look. It needs some tuning (meaning cards still in standard I won't pay for) but it has a good win percent and is alot of fun. I tried to focus on big wurms and chant tricks to become too huge to stop.
what problems are you finding with Well of Lost Dreams green and white don't exactly have access to the best card draw, and this is an incredible solution for any lifegain deck.
EDH:
Currently Piloting:
Dama, Sage of Stone | Karador, Ghost Chieftan | Sigarda, Host of Herons | Elbrus, the Binding Blade / Withengar Unbound | Grand Arbiter Augustin IV | Genju of the Realm | Ruric Thar, the Unbowed
When I first made my deck I was putting a lot of 1/1 tokens in the deck and then realized it's much better with fatter tokens since populate costs the same regardless of the token size. Green has a lot of fat token generators so take advantage of that. If you want to run a smaller token swarm strategy I'd stick to a BW Teysa deck instead.
Thanks for the responses.
I like your list tehboognish, it seems pretty sweet. I think I'm going to replace Birds of Paradise or Avacyn's Pilgrim with a Budoka Gardener. I'm swinging towards big tokens already, so things like Beastmaster Ascension are less important to me. I prefer ability boosts at this point. Shmo40- I don't have any problems with it, I have every intention of adding it quite soon. Kevin Nash- I like a lot of these. The guildmage is already in there, and Worldspine was, but I felt like I spent way more time holding it unable to cast than it did helping me. I'm rather against planeswalkers in the format, mostly because my playgroup will kill them on sight. I will definitely consider a lot of the wurm producers though, and Rampaging Baloths is probably a yes as well.
Lonedonkey- Darien is rock-solid with or without Trostani, however, I'm quite satisfied my life gain can counteract most attacks without him. I think he belongs in more of a slow-rolling swarm style deck with access to more pumps. For instance, w3zl01d's deck seems like a perfect home for him. Speaking of your list, w3zl01d, I'm considering replacing Iona with Sylvan Primordial. Although I think primordial probably does more work in your list, Iona has single-handedly made me a target every time I've cast her (probably because all my friends play black...), so thanks for presenting a great alternative.
Can't stress enough how needed Primal Rage or other trample enablers are. 134/134 (my biggest so far) is worthless if it can be chumped.
I'm just gonna "stream of thought" my words now.....
How is Wolfir Silverheart working? I'm gonna jam him anyway.:D
Mike always got blown up before I can get value out of him. Might have been a hasty cut myself. Fiend Hunter= NOPE! It will end in tears.:crying: Oblation was my replacement. Not sure it it was right but I don't wanna play hunter anymoar! makes my brain hurt. Wilt-leaf liege I don't even, what? oh well, I can't afford it. Is it good? Loxodon Hierarch at the 4 spot? This is because of your meta right? Trostani's Judgment I seriously thought this was bad. It's not, if you have mana.
:sidenote:To me, this deck is about guiding your opponent(s) to where you can curbstomp their face. Exiling their big beater and the copying your Akroma's Memorial enabled token(s) is what makes the teeth leave the skull.:D Slime Molding and you dont have Gelatinous Genesis? Get it, play it last. Phyrexian Rebirth+Hour of Reckoning= TEH LULZ! Thats what it's all about you know.:D
Curious about Martial Law I am not a big fan of being defensive but this will earn a trial run. Intangible virtue and rancor ok, rancor gives trample, which wins most of my games, but I.V. has no place here IMHO. Lookit the size of the tokens your trying to populate. +1 ain't shiat. Rest in Peace, I just gotta say. My other deck not in real life is Karador and I just can't bring myself to play this. It is bad, you should feel bad for playing this and you are a bad person.;) Luminarch Ascension A fantastic card that will get you killed quicker than you want. I would run Entreat the angels instead. OK. I will run entreat once it is cheaper.
Many thanks for your efforts. Trostani is my favorite at the moment and I am all for finding the best way to BEAT THE LIFE OUT OF ANYONE WHO EVEN GIVES ME THE HAIRY EYEBALL! So, cheers!
Thanks, I was a bit worried with all the various tags.. Wolfir Silverheart is... fair to middling. Sometimes he'll stonewall someone or honky-stomp them, and other times he's "win more" (or lose slightly less, but still lose), easily replaceable... Rampaging Baloths?
Eff Fiend Hunter.. I thought I had that Olivia Voldaren dealt with.. Oh, Doom Blade? GG. Oblation or Hour of Reckoning for another sweeper seems right. Wilt-Leaf Liege? Okay, ya caught me, he's awful here. Not in general mind you, just here (and after all the smack talk about not needing minor buffs...Shame..) Loxodon Hierarch- originally because one of my friends thought it would be funny to fill a deck with as many sweepers as possible.. Turns out he didn't like being the only target, so he can probably disappear now.. Trostani's Judgement.. I thought it would be awful, too.. Glad I was wrong
My slime molding is foil.. I like shiny things.. May have to get that magpie sig.. Gelatinous Genesis seems B.A. too, especially since dropping Worldspine Wurm Intangible Virtue is there solely for the vigilance. I'm not wholly against dropping it, but I don't want to Rest in Peace- Aww, poor Karador... and Mimeo... and Glissa... and anything recursive... Not going anywhere, even if it is a nonbo with Rancor.
Speaking of Rancor, dropping for Primal Rage (Problem solved) Luminarch Ascension- Stays in until my playgroup realizes they die to 4/4 fliers far more often than they should.. or until I get a copy of Entreat that doesn't go straight into another deck (I need 2 more for other decks, and I'm not actively trading for it atm)
So yeah, I'll update the main post momentarily.
Thanks again!

Speaking of Rancor, dropping for Primal Rage (Problem solved)
Have you thought about Brawn? I know rest in peace would make that terrible. How has rest in peace been for you? And primal rage? because I run brawn in my Trostani deck (or soon to be constructed), and was wondering how good both of those additions have been.
for me Primal Rage has been an insta-win. I usually don't play it till giant tokens or pumped Avenger of Zendikar tokens are not sick. Slam it and watch em scoop!

Rest in peace has been amazing, given the utter lack of recursion in my list. It breaks many deck's gameplans in half. I haven't had a chance to playtest primal rage yet, but rancor was good (even being a nonbo with RIP), and I expect great things.
Do you think it's better to cut out all recursion in a GW and run rest in peace? How do we feel about ground seal? I don't plan on running a lot if recursion but want to include reya dawnbringer and regrowth along with brawn.
I am seeing alot of others using the graveyard online so I am gonna trial run Rest in peace. Adding Brawn as well. After thinking about it a bit (and because my other deck abuses the graveyard) I'm gonna try to stay above ground with Trostani.:)

I just think the deck lends itself to lack of recursion by it's nature. The main focus is on the tokens, and once they're online, populate and the other enchantments keep it running. Other generals are much more suited to recurring things, and some are built solely with that in mind. Being able to entirely shut them down unless they have an answer is worth it to me. That being said, it's one card in a 99 card deck. Adding things that are graveyard-related isn't unrealistic, especially when they have use outside that function. A few cards like you're planning shouldn't be an issue. You can always hold off casting RIP if you've got plans of your own.
On a loosely related subject, how do you guys feel about Enlightened Tutor? It seems like the enchantment/artifact count is high enough, and high-impact enough, to warrant it's inclusion. I still don't have my copy for Brion Stoutarm, who has demanded one first, but hopefully, I can get my hands on a few. Tax time is coming up... And there's always the proxy.
I'm envisioning Primal Rage, Akroma's Memorial, Doubling Season, and, in my case, Staff of Nin being the primary targets, but there's a bit of a built-in toolbox, too. Protection, token production, grave hate... I think I may have sold myself. I've been considering it for quite awhile.
As for enlightened tutor, if you have a couple good targets, I would say it's a good choice. If you need more card draw, you can tutor up the fabulous Staff of Nin, large creatures who need to punch through? Primal rage. See a reanimating commander setting up a living death or some crazy grave-based combo? RIP.
I had worldspine wurm for awhile, but he always seemed sub-par, especially with the low amount of ramp I'm running. Gelatinous Genesis is good, but Wurmcalling seems better to/for me. I don't see a whole heck of a lot of counterspells aimed my way, so the buyback is much more viable, and it allows the size of the tokens to increase.

Also, Boon Reflection would be fine, but I'm more than happy with Trostani's life gain, and don't want to waste a slot increasing it further. Sorin and commanders don't care about life totals anyway

Thanks! I appreciate the quick feedback!

Also, where is your Gelatinous Genesis?

All 3 of those cards warrant a slot. Although, Boon Reflection or Rhox Faithmender?
