I did do some research on some D&D names just to make sure this wasn't a new D&D thing coming up and I found something, but I'm still not sure what to think about it. Apparently there is a deity named "Nyx," however, the title of this particular trademark doesn't imply a person's name, rather a place's. Also, in case you didn't notice while looking at the trademark, it was filed with the intent of using this name specifically on trading card games and the like, as opposed to the usual D&D goods&services ("Toys, games and playthings, namely, board games, parlor games, fantasy role-playing games, miniature toy figurines used in role-playing game scenarios, and accessories for use therewith").
I don't play D&D that much and therefore I don't know that much about the lore, but going based on a couple of loose searches, I've only found stuff relating to the deity, "Nyx." If I'm wrong in thinking that this might be MTG related, please let me know.
Could very well be mtg related, or not. Either way I can't seem to think of anything in mtg that has to do with "Nyx". And if nyx is a person in D&D, it wouldn't make sense. I think it could just be the new name for a block.

"just be"? If this happens to be the new block name, this is one of the biggest revelations possible in that regard. I mean, who doesn't want to know where the next block will take place / what it will be about? And the name usually gives away some information about that (in this case: a completely new plane).
Question: Did the former taglines for core sets get trademarked? "Gather your Allies" (M2012) and "Face a greater challenge" (or something like that for M2013)? If they did, maybe Journey into Nyx is the tagline for M2014?
Nyx was the Greek goddess of night and darkness. The name Nyx is derived from the Ancient Greek for "night", and the goddess was supposed to be the very personification of night itself, so Journey into Nyx could mean Journey into Night.
The fact that there is already a Dungeons and Dragons character named Nyx leads me to believe that this wasn't registered for Mtg. Wizards has tried very hard to keep their two main fantasy franchises (Magic and Dungeons and Dragons) as separate as possible. That said, I know absolutely nothing about D&D itself. Have there been other instances where character names have overlapped between the two franchises?
I'm hoping that this is the name for the "Friends" set. If so, it gives us a few ways to speculate: with the given information, Nyx, meaning 'night' in Greek, could foretell it to be based on a Greco-Roman world inspired by the mythology of antiquity. However, if you were a designer and you wanted to make a Greco-Roman plane for MtG, would you pick the name Nyx for it, inspiring the sense of night-time and darkness being an ever-present factor? Nah, I think that if this does prove to be Greco-Roman, 'Nyx' may be the name of an event happening on that plane (along the lines of Aurora of Lorwyn/Shadowmoor, the Mending of Alara, Nightfall in Guild Wars: Nightfall, etc), though that might confuse people...
Another thought, perhaps the guys that come up with names just wanted wanted something unusual with a funny spelling (see: Skithiryx).
Yet another thought that just occurred to me in citing Skittles as an example of cool-sounding, strangely-spelled names in MtG, perhaps this is a plane that's been affected by Phyrexian influence? Phyrexians love their Ys and Xs being in names.
Just thinking if Nyx is Night, could it possibly be a Death/Underworld realm or theme. (Playing on the poetical use of Journeying into the night).
My other thought is Journey might prompt the return of some of Zendikar's "Adventure" themes. I'd love to see Allies get another go around, and Quests where pretty cool too.

an underworld theme would be cool, bring on the dark elves...sorry, couldn't help myself. But seriously I would love to see a subterranean world
Quests/Allies would be cool, but hopefully it wouldn't be like a second zen, I didn't really like zen all too much.
Block codenames don't ever mean anything IRT mechanics or setting, so lets not read into the codename for the fall block.
If, as is often the case, as WoTC makes sure their names allude to things correctly, this is a 'Mythology inspired, Roman-era' set, then the arts from that Deviantart posted recently fit RIGHT in.
The only thing we have been promised is that this block is 'entirely different' from Ravnica, and a multicolor theme.
But when is it ever not the case that the next block isn't entirely different.

Hmm... could it possibly be Arkhos? It is a plane described as being in constant twilight, hence the Nyx/night goddess reference. Just a thought. The architecture in the artwork also looks like it could possibly be Grecian, no?

Remember the first set of a block has to be named after the plane now-a-days.
So if this is the big set name, then the plane would be Nyx
Speaking of the other thread with the artwork that'll be going on new cards this year, perhaps, should those be used for Friends, we'll be visiting a funky, super-magical place. Belenon would be nice, and if 'Nyx' happens to be a planar event like I speculated in my previous post, we could see that...
However, I feel those artworks are going to be used for Commander and this is a pretty loose hypothesis. When the heck is WotC going to officially announce it?
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
That said, I know absolutely nothing about D&D itself. Have there been other instances where character names have overlapped between the two franchises?
off the top of my head: Rath.
however, that was the name of a D&D character from back before WotC bought D&D from TSR (not to mention, it's a pretty 'normal' name for fantasy, being monosyllabic, as well as sounding like a real-world word: wrath, hence evoking certain specific themes or connotations), so that might not be too relevant.
Nyx sounds like the kind of place Yixlid Jailer would hang out. Given the recent comment from MaRo that we're not supposedly done with Future Sight pre-prints yet, maybe we get to hang out there?
I think it is unlikely this will be the name for the next block. For me, it is most likely 2 blocks over or more.
Anyway seeing as it's mostly wishful speculation at the moment i have a few things i would like. Everyone's favourite demonic-looking ex-walker, Ob Nixilis, has a huge fan base with very little story and a name which sounds like the place. What if Nixilis isn't a surname, rather the name of his people? What if he is really Ob of the Nixilis, who hail from Nyx?
Could the next block be "Return to Zendikar" like people want with this guy appearing as a link between that and "Journey into Nyx"?
Regardless of what "Journey of Nyx" is, we can be sure that it's not 3 years into the future; WotC files trademarks typically within 7-12 months prior to release date. If you look at the trademark filings for Return to Ravnica, Innistrad, Scars of Mirrodin and Zendikar, they seem to line up in that range, so this could very well be for the Fall set.

the tagline for M14 is "Ignite your spark."

My sentence was awkwardly worded.

Best speculation yet, especially if this plane ends up being a super-shady place. Would it be too soon for Liliana to make another appearance though?

Perhaps Nyx is a location on Arkhos, and "Journey into Nyx" is the block's tagline?
It just seems to really fit with the rumored artwork in the other thread, and with the whole night/evening theme.
It would also fit the description of being "completely different from a multicolor block" since nobody can see colors at night
EDIT: Also ties in with the the Future Sight reprint speculation thread, as River of Tears is a location on Arkhos.

Edit: And by dark i mean horror filled meh
Im also all for visiting Vela the night-clad and krond the dawn-clad home plane.
By the way on the wiki nyx is a place not sure if real though.
