Hey all, I looked on the SCD list, and searched the forum but could not find a thread on Greater Gargadon. If there is one I could not find, I am sorry and please merge this thread with that one.
I know he is included in a lot of cubes on this forum, and I saw him in the MTGO cube, but my question is at what size is he a staple?
I know he is good with Wildfire and Upheaval, and I can imagine he is good with Armageddon or any wrath. I plan to include him in my cube, but just thought I would ask how well people like him in tighter lists.

I don't know if he is that important in 360, but I would say at 450 this card should reliably make most cube lists. What I like about Greater Gargadon is that he is good almost always whenever you draw him throughout the game. First turn he is great to suspend, later on he can be suspended along with casting another spell. Late, it can be hard cast (rare) or suspended with the threat of coming into play at instant speed.
He is a monster and wins games that some cards never can and changes the way your opponents play.
I consider it a 360 staple. It's the best sac outlet ever. And it provides extra value to all removal spells that effect you. It also interacts with recursive cards, and can get into play much faster that way. I also like it for counterburn decks, where you suspend and wait. And he's a sick combo card with Balance, and can power out fast with (and against) mass removal of all kinds. He warps the way a game plays out while he's suspended. Your opponent's removal gets worse, they have to have a backup plan for dealing with Gargadon throughout the entire game, they have to count permanents and understand when he can "come on line" ...no other card warps the way a game plays out for a single mana like Gargadon does.
I've had him preform well, personally. It's nice to have a sac outlet in red that gets you some extra value as well. Plus it's fun to sac creatures you Sneak Attack to him after they attack.

I would tell you why I like him a lot, but wtwlf already did.
For 1 mana he is one of the coolest cards you can put into your cube, he's good at face value, but when you factor in all the cool interactions and game warping he subtly does, he becomes a monster.

He's bonkers, but I've found that the lack of any explanation on the card regarding suspend makes the card quite difficult for new players to fully understand. That's why I had him out of my cube at one point.
He's really good, and on top of all the things mentioned above, including the crazy nuts with Balance he's also just a 9/7 Haste guy sometimes. Generally people will see him coming as he'll be suspended for a few turns, but you can still catch them off guard with it, and on rare occasion you'll just randomly Suspend him and then sac your entire board to dome them for the final 9 or less damage all in one turn when they're tapped out or whatever.
Once it's suspended, your opponent has to play around it. They can't tap out to play their Liliana of the Dark Realms or their (insert other powerful non-creature) if they couldn't handle you sac'ing everything and swinging for 9 next turn.
He is a great complement to aggro decs in which your opponent has to deal with the initial rush while haiving to prepare for the big one coming up. I once put him in a deck with unearth creatures and redcap (can deal 3 damage with a sac outlet).
He really messes with the opponent big time. You can have fun simply by psyching him out every turn with the removal of a counter. >:)
All creatures that enter the battlefield from a Suspend trigger have haste. That is one of the reasons that people don't play this guy. Not only does he not have the Suspend reminder text, but that text would not even tell you the whole story...
EDIT: My bad, the reminder text does say Haste... oops! GG still doesn't though.
It's in the rulings for any creature with suspend. Since your opponent can see it a mile away, it loses a lot of the surprise value. They can hold instant speed removal for it.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
I'd say it's gotten better over the years with all the token generators we've gotten over the years. He goes well with and against 3 insane archetype enablers, Upheaval / Wildfire / Armageddon, not to mention sweepers in general.
Still one of my favorite red creatures. A blast to play with, creates a lot of game-state tension and it's a fantastic sac outlet. Solid investment for R.
Greater Gargodon was discussed here in the Random Cube Card of the Day, where it was finally determined how much greater it is than all the other Gargodons in the history of MTG.
