Alara is "ruler of all" in greek. (or german, I forget) That ruler being Zeus, his child is Athena. Literally born from his forehead, she sprang forth fully armored, ready to fight. She's goddess of an astounding number of attributes, but most famously wisdom & warfare. This deck aims to have answers ready for everything, but not rely on control for victory. The right words can be as deadly as a high explosive, fusion-powered, sub-machine rail-gun.
We often don't use sideboards, so I'm most concerned with the first 99 cards. These last 10 come second to those and will likely include methods of dealing with especially troublesome commanders or strategies that I don't often see. Uril, the Miststalker in particular (hexproof, land destruction, aggro) is something to be concerned about.
While this deck has been with me for a long time, I've begun to attempt to refine it into something more elegant as of late. I'm trying to incorporate a religion/sci fi theme that portrays gods, demons, other mythical creatures as well technological wonders jumbled together in a timey-wimey end-of-the-universe setting. Think Star Trek crossed with Constantine. Obviously, Athena will have a major presence, though that shouldn't mean that everything must be related to her. If any cards' art could be redone to reflect a spaceship, that would be fascinating. Iconic art/images are welcome. That goes for many of the cards - if there's an appropriate subject that I could redo the art for, I'd be happy to do so!
After managing to select 99 initial cards, I've begun thinking about which cards don't fit thematically, or aren't quite up to par otherwise. I'm fairly happy with the cards I have thus far, but am open to changing them. Mostly, I'm concerned with card synergy and then theme.
