I was just curious as to what some of those who have been cubing for awhile thought of this card. I picked one up the other day and I thought the card would go great with landfall cards like Lotus Cobra and Plated Geopede. I also felt it could be good in color-intensive aggro decks that don't really need to much land to function. Anyways, though, what do you all think about it?
It's one of my favorite mana-fixing lands for aggressive decks with low curves, and as you said, it's great with Cobra, Geopede, Steppe Lynx, Bloodghast, Ob Nixilis, the Fallen, and others (I even play Vinelasher Kudzu and it's awesome with him too). It can also be pretty sweet with Pox and Land Tax because you can keep your land count fixed.
OP is spot on with the evaluation of the card. It's one of the best mana fixers for aggro, if you have space being the usual suspects like City of Brass. I think 450-500 is where I would have space to run it. What I haven't seen mentioned is that it can avoid symmetrical land sac effects too. I'm not sure if this is on the reserve list, but if not it would be an outstanding reprint candidate.
Aggro fixing is super important, never tested this card but it finally dropped in price after it spiked so I just ordered one. Thanks for bringing it up, I can't get enough aggro fixing!
I tend to value Thawing Glaciers over this card, but I'm playing in slower environments. I take it the allure of the Paradise is that it's the colour you want first turn?
Paradise and Glaciers are pretty close over the course of a game, really... both bouncing land for landfall triggers, both giving you the colour you want. Paradise just works faster, while Glaciers thins the land out of your deck long-term.
So I actually managed to play this card in a draft today. I have to say, it worked out swimmingly.
I was playing zoo-style deck, with my curve topping out at 4 (for hellrider; my 3 mana drops were sword of fire and ice, eternal witness and goblin bombardment)
I was never really sad to see it, because I tended to not really need more than 2 or 3 mana per turn, and when i did it was amazing at fixing my colors (it was so much fun with steppe lynx)
I also played a turn 1 aether vial off it and won that game having only drawn 1 other land. It was hilarious.
All in all, I feel this card is amazing fixing for aggro decks, and I feel it a very worthwhile include in my 450 cube., despite the narrow array of decks that can use the card (aggro does need a lot of help, doesn't it?)
On the lookout for some interesting lands to try out in cube, I stumbled over this one. The arguments here should still hold up after all these years, since Aggro didn't really change. Anyone still playing it and having success with it?
Undiscovered performed better than I thought - especially for tri color aggressive decks.
I'm thinking if I should give the Lairs cycle a try - Darigaaz's Caldera.
