#3 is certainly an interesting one. I'm trying to figure out if that's half of Ravnica on fire (e.g. Inferno-style), or whether we're just inside a Sacred Foundry...
So... I'm guessing that the Gates get new artwork... Looks they're doing it, but I think it makes no sense at all, w/ already existing art that isn't even a year old.

The 'new' artwork is just the same artwork, but in wider shots. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the 'new' art were the original designs and the images were simply cropped for RTR and Gatecrash.
Honestly, I can't help but see this and think Niv is telling a joke.
"So then he says, that was fantastic! But what do you call the act? And the man goes... "The Aristocrats!"

That, and you know what they say. If Wizards started shipping $100 bills in boosters tomorrow, people would scream and cry and whine that they were folded the wrong way.
What do you mean? He's a human wierd! (or a regular weird at least, but here's hoping...!) What's not to love about that?!?
For the record, that isn't confirmed.
While I will grant he looks a bit like a weird, he also looks a LOT like a Djinn... and of the two, we know djinn are more likely to be sapient (and qualify for the maze... and wear clothes) rather than weirds.
1. Of course core sets, sealed product (duel decks, commander, etc), and other reprint sets (MM) void this.
2. The art is the same piece, just zoomed out. They didn't have to commission new art.
That greatsword Exava's got looks really nasty. I wouldn't want to get within fifty feet of that thing! I mean, can you imagine getting stabbed with that monstrosity? Feeling every spike dig into your flesh? Ow.

Bari, dawg, you really think that the Izzet would hew so closely to normalcy? Melek being a weird would be much more... well... weird, and, therefore, more the Izzet's style.

I bet they asked the artists to expand the scope after the first versions, which would explain why the simic one looks so awkward. So yeah, you are probably wrong about the commission thing.

My favorite flavor text: Time of Heroes
Feel free to tell me yours!
Is it bad form to say Exava is really hot? She looks like a seriously dangerous woman as well, but what jumps out at me is how built she is. Wide hips and large chest, but with a thick waist so it looks realistic. She looks both attractive and dangerous, like the Rakdos guild itself. I also love how she seems to have noticed the fourth wall mid-stride.
I think I will have to break my personal rule of no splashing just to use the blood witch in my deck...I think she is one of my favorite MTG artworks now!

Considering those are magic swords given to her by the demon himself and are capable of cutting CHAIN in a single hew?...
I think you'd be very aware of getting stuck by them.
And we've never had any indication weirds are sapient or capable of highly complex problem solving. Virtually everything we've seen of them indicate they have bestial level intellects. Not saying it's impossible, but there are limits to how weird the Izzet are when it comes to something this important. And Djinn are among the most powerful beings on the plane. (Source: Guildpact)

WotC needs more diversity, man.
