It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
Could he be played in some kind of Grixis or Rakdos control with a lot of burn as spot-removal and as a post-Master of Cruelties finisher? Even if it isn't a serious thing, that's what I intend to build. This guy seems absurdly fun to play with
Honestly this card should see at least some fringe play. It takes away the life-gain that causes red aggro to lose and it's a great blocker and attacker that will kill almost anything in its path. Plus it is in the colors where 1 damage is extremely easy to get through.
As was mentioned in the spoiler thread (and confirmed with the relevant rulings) this + Kaalia of the Vast = kill a player in one swing if they have no blockers. As if my Kaalia deck needed something else insane.
Much more playable version of Phage the Untouchable. First strike is beastly on it.
Actually, this card reminds me more of Olivia Voldaren than anything else. A high cost but castable (outside ramp) creature that just says 'if you don't throw removal at me, you lose'. Definitely weaker than Voldaren, however.
I do really like this card and think it could be a lot of fun. I like it especially in multi-player. Lightning Mauler?

In the other thread, I heard him being compared to Desecration Demon. I want to point out the subtle difference. Desecration was a very bad card. This isn't too bad, its casual only no doubt, but consider- the Demon was a card that said you can hurl a creature in front of it each turn to chump it. This is card that says you must hurl a creature in front of it each turn to chump it. There is a very potent difference!
With DD, it wasn't a death sentence to let him go unblocked. He was just a vanilla beater with a negative evasion ability. He could still be beaten by a bigger creature or combat trick, and he couldn't block when you wanted him to either, and your opponent could just let him go through and ignore him until they're in the red zone. With master of cruelties, its very different. Any deck around him would have reliable ways to deal the last 1 damage, usually something land based. If he isn't blocked, its game over on the spot. And he isn't going to be beaten in combat by larger beaters normally- first strike and deathtouch. And he's an insane land blocker because of that.
In practical, constructed application, he seems like the kind of card that will be completely forgotten about until some johnny finds a bizarre combo that involves ninja'ing him into play as an attacker that instantly kills you or something.
Fact.
When B/r control stabilizes, just like any control deck, it can win with anything.
I've won with a Keyrune, I've won with a Staff, I've won with Bloodhall.
He comes down after a Mutilate. Pefect.
As long as MBC is a thing, (and it is, albeit a fringe thing), this dude will be a thing.

If desecration Demon is such a bad card, why does it have a $1.20 price tag on it? It must enjoy at least some popularity.
His flavor is amazing though...
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

I dont think Mutilate is THAT BAD. Comes turn 4, clears the way for the demon, if you have any walker in Grixis colors to cast in turn 6 its almost GG

also, its pretty flavorful that he can't deliver the killing blow. he likes leaving them suffering
edit: wow totally misread the card. thought it triggered on attacking only. does it work with kaalia??
You just made me lul'ed hard with that one. Turn 2 Heartless, Turn 3 Him, Turn 4 Artful Dodge then random 1 damage ftw lol

It doesn't. It would be off the field before it gets to the declare blockers step, so it won't happen.
