Comparable to Jugan, the Rising Star. Rather unexciting, but could be decent in limited if the format is slow. Not a horrid mana sink in EDH, but you could generally do better.
It's not bad. It's good to see that they're continuing to explore design space for Hydras. I'm just a little miffed that it doesn't have Trample, though. I mean, I know Green has many ways to give a creature trample, but I would still like to see more trample on my hydras.

Someday, I will own all of the dragons. All of them. 43/111, approximately 39% complete. Over a third done.
(calling it now; there will be a cycle of Legendary dual lands with Basic Land types in Theros block)
... AAAAAAAAND I was wrong
Pretty meh at first glance. Given the time between Baneslayer Angel and Thundermaw Hellkite, I'd say we've got 2 more core sets before we get a pushed Hydra, longer if Demon or Sphinx gets in first.
Edit: For fun times, combo with Fathom Mage!

I'm very happy with this. I don't expect it to be constructed playable, but it's the kind of effect I had hoped would be printed in Simic, and I'm glad to get it now. I'm also glad that the hydra of the set isn't mythic this time around either.
Hey, wait a second. Vastwood has so far only been used on cards that are specifically from/on Zendikar. Is this from, like, a pre-Rise of the Eldrazi past?
Why do I have a feeling they made this card to push for Voice of Resurgence's viability?
>get both on board
>enemy wraths/kills both of them
>stack the new hydra's trigger first, followed by VOR's death trigger
>get an elemental token with all the dead hydra's +1/+1s

Hate to point it out, i am probably wrong, but wasnt Swagborn Hydra from Dragons Maze the "pushed" hydra?
And pushed sphinx or demon....were consecrated sphinx and grislebasle just played? So...also, if you look at that trend, the pushed hydra will draw you cards when it died = counters on it?
Also, my card shop likes nicknames >_>

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
This card seems not that bad. I will definitely test this particular dollar rare (for EDH only obviously, not a standard card without some unforeseen shenanigans, because relatively vanilla beater dudes that don't have power at least equal to their initial mana investment rarely make it). But I like that it can potentially give you some extra value even if it gets immediately dead. I think you pretty easily windmill slam this in draft though, it lets make a huge dork that dominates them and when and if they finally kill it, all the power and toughness goes on your evasion creature and their situation is actually worse. Seems good.
I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause!

Would be very disappointing as a mythic, fine as a limited/casual rare. Depending on the returning mechanic and whatever subthemes M14 has, could be better in limited than it looks at first glance.
Could be worth trying in Animar EDH, especially the builds with "counters matter" themes.
Shouldn't this say: When ~ dies, you may distribute any number of +1/+1 counters on ~ among any other number of creatures you control?
I don't know if that's right, it's just that the current wording is so weird.

Yes! This is perfect for my Animar deck. I run nothing but hydras because he makes them cheaper to drop anyway. I run the whole counters-matter theme which got even better from Simic in RTR block, this Hydra is perfect.

I don't know if that's right, it's just that the current wording is so weird.
example:
You have 3 1/1 guys and 3/3 hydra. When hydra dies you can give 3x +1/+1 counters for all other creatures you control. Now 3 4/4 creatures (unless you don't want to give counters to all of your creatures).
That's why the wording is different. Limited bomb, and i see this as a cool creature.
Just be glad it's not in the Green Mythic slot.

Even for limited it isn't very exciting (unlike most hydras.)

I like it, personally. Sure it sucks in a board wipe, but it's great against targeted destruction removal.
