I love B/W, but the only generals in those colors that excited me had terrible art (I swear Vish Kal is wearing sunglasses). If I'm gonna stare at a general for a two hour game, I'm darn well not going to hate the art. So from the moment the new art for Teysa was spoiled, I was making a Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts deck.
Once we got the actual card, it was clearly a political card. And protection from creatures meant that I ought to be attacking with Teysa as a win condition. But to attack and win, Teysa needs a power boost. Enter one of my favorite cards ever, Angelic Destiny. Sure, she doesn't need the flying to attack, but it's a far more resilient card than most auras.
Politics, a pillow fort, enchantments, and an Angel or ten. Let's do this.
So here's the deck. The basic goal is to survive the early game by not being an appealing target. A Story Circle here, a Sphere of Safety there, but not much to threaten anyone. Hopefully they set their sights on someone who is more immediately threatening. I'm hoping to use my creatures to set up some pressure/defense, but combine them to get value out of wrathing. AnAegis Angel or a Twlight Shepherd can let me wipe the board while maintaining a board presence. I have lots of recursion in the list as well, to get back the most important stuff that goes to the graveyard.
After that, Teysa becomes a big presence on the board. It was already hard to attack me, but now my No Mercy on a stick makes it miserable. Lots of my creatures have protection or protection granting effects. That's when I want to go grab Celestial Mantle or Angelic Destiny. Stick one on Teysa and she's 3 hits away from killing you.
Obviously Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts is new enough that I haven't played the list a ton, but my testing so far has worked pretty well. And really, who can't help but smile when the token opponent has to pay 64 to attack with his team
No Mercy is pretty cool ^^. And opponents think twice before they attack you.
Perhaps Blinding Angel.. An opponent that can't attack, is an opponent less to worry about ;).
