Well to be fair Skinrender kills itself or kills/shrinks a creature you control if your opponent doesn't have any creatures, so it's not the best comparison in the world. Though Nakrataal which doesn't have this issue is still 4CC but has a smaller body, but also gains First Strike. The giant is also red as opposed to black...
All and all, I would agree that with the current restriction and body, this could have been like 3RR and caused no problems. At the 5RR cost I doubt it will be a card I play often in limited.
A cmc of less than six would be pushing it on the giant for limited.
He's a nearly unconditional two-for-one that leaves behind a body that's almost guaranteed to be relevant in the late game. I would definitely run him as a curve topper in a midrange GR deck.
On the Skinrender comparison: Skinrender was incredibly effecient, approaching a first-pick-every-time-bomb. This is still playable.

Yeah, "comparable to Skinrender" isn't exactly the correct line to go to if you want to say a card's not great. Skinrender was a ridiculously good card.
I don't think the giant is terrible, especially in a core set. Killing things with 2 toughness will be nice - imagine all the white and blue fliers this thing will be swatting. I can see running one and not being upset.
I love the art on the giant. reminds me of the art back from tempest.
lightning talons should have stuck with its original art, the shrieking zombie lord was a favorite of mine.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
a small sentence for you to read while you ignore my post.
It goes into green level of creature power, which might be a bit much.
But I agree that it is overcosted by 1, if we look at it in a vacuum. Maybe there is something in limited that makes it acceptable for it to cost 5RR instead of 4RR (the "correct" cost imo)
In some rare cases Talons can prove more powerful. Madcap is a better card overall though I agree.
The first strike part of Talons can turn the creature very intimidating on blocks or attacks. M14 will also likely be a slower draft format then 3x GTC which allows for the mana difference.
I think "ETB, fights target creature." Would be more flavorful and obviously more effective for the Giant.
Compare that to the 4RG giant in GTC. Monoclor and you get to choose the target instead of being random? That might be too strong. I think the body should have been a 5/5 or it should have costed 6.
what you guys should have noticed that it's a red card that says destroy a creature i don't believe we've had that for quite sometime if I'm not mistaken

A strong 7 mana 4/4 at uncommon? End of the world.
I feel like you're missing the flavor a bit, there's no fighting back when a giant just steps on you. And obviously he can't step on things that are close to his own size.
Yeah, the card is clearly showing a small thing being squashed. I think this card is clearly a case of top down design.

If they can print Skinrender at 4CC there is no reason this guy should be 7CC
I think he would be plenty fair at 5CC.

Standard: W/R Aggro
Also, the flavor text for the giant is AWESOME.
I do feel its overcosted by 1 if they want it a 4/4...but in that case I don't feel a 4/4 is a giant. a 7/4 would have been an acceptable giant.
