Based on number crunching, the prediction that we will not have core set dual lands this time around has been proven.
Collector number on shimmering grotto is 229, meaning that it is the last non basic land. Vial of poison has a collector number of 225, leaving room for 2 (artifacts falling alphabetically after the word vial/other non-basic lands) [Mutavault is 228, therefore 226, 227 are available]
I wouldn't discount it entirely. As far as I know there's still a possibility that they are replacing basic lands a la dragon's maze.

Evil is boring. The universe is friendly. Life is on your side. Joy is your birthright. Cynicism is idiotic. Fear is a bad habit. Despair is lazy. In fact, all of creation wants you to succeed. Act as if the universe is a prodigious miracle created for your amusement and illumination. Assume that secret helpers are working behind the scenes to assist you in turning into the gorgeous masterpiece you were born to be. . . Life always gives you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it.
Just because the m10 catch lands aren't getting reprinted doesn't mean there won't be any dual at all does it? I wonder if the innistrad duals fit?
We only have enemy dual lands from Innistrad, which I suppose can do duty for the allied lands we usually get in Core. It does mean that people will have to be using regular lands or more guildgates. Allied color lands from Innistrad are those weird ones that produce colorless mana and have weird pump abilities.
Anyway, once Theros hits Innistrad is out the door, which means we'll have only the RTR block lands and gates to work with.

According to that post only two land slots are left open. It doesn't matter which five-card cycle you propose, you'll have a hard time fitting it into two card slots. Savvy?

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

I'm glad the allied checklands aren't returning. It opens up space for something new. personally, I'm crossing my fingers for the Zendikar manlands, or something similar in Theros.
Why do we need to have all the mana fixing? I would like to see theros print duals too, but it would be interesting to see a couple months of standard without amazing mana fixing.

I'm hoping for a cycle of 5 personally, ONS or ZEN Fetches are the most compact cycle they could include to keep the fixing high for while RTR is in standard.

We might, but I don't think they would do it until M15 (if ever) so they would only be together for a few months. Similar to how they didn't want a full year of Infect with Rancor so they pushed Rancor back to M13 instead of putting it in M12.
I hear that a lot, but I'm curious as to why you are certain that is true. Other than "it's too good" I haven't heard anyone give reasons for that statement.
EAtWhichIt's about the card pool. Modern decks are usually 3 color with shock/fetch because usually b you're able to find a strong synergistic deck. Exceptions are using all 5 for synergy ie tribal flames. In standard you have fewer cards and 20 or 25 are head and shoulders above. Right now our mana is great in 3 color and bad in 4 or 5. If we had fetches, the cards played would shrink further. There would not be synergy decks. Just the best 10 cards regardless of color.
does anyone think its possible theros also wont have duals? i think i read somewhere that wizards wants 3+ color to go away for a while in standard. so i think its possible we either wont see duals again until m15,or if we do see them in theros it will be ones that are only sustainable for a 2 color deck. ie filters.

When Maro is the one saying it's too good, that's all the reason you need.

Block constructed badly wants 10-cycles of duals.

2 color decks will be the norm again, with a splash for a 3rd color. The shocks are just not amazing without other duels around them.
And no, this will not make the gates playable in most decks. Don't even pretend.
