DACK FAYDEN RETURNS! After eliminating Sifa Grent, the Planeswalker that destroyed his hometown, Dack has settled down in Ravnica to do what he does best: break in and steal the secrets from Ravnica's rarest artifacts. But upon uncovering the half of a strange gauntlet, Dack is led to a strange new plane: the realm of THEROS, a sun-dappled ruled by gods and inhabited by mythological beasts!
Expected in-store date: 10/2/13
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
AH NAAAWWWW! This block is gonna be good! Return to Ravnica left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm so over standard I was looking forward to Theros before Dragon's Maze was spoiled.
Is Dack Fayden an actual planeswalker made by wizards, or is he just a character for this comic book.
I'm just wondering if they confirmed a planeswalker here, but it seems like he's just some guy since he was in ravnica too.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring
When is he likely to get a card, we still don't have a card for Kiora Atua either but they keep pumping out the Lorwyn 5 in some form or another>
Isn't the point of the Dak Faden comics supposed to be that he is a separate entity, story-wise, from the game? I mean I know they have made promo cards with him in the artwork, but those are all reprints. Dak is supposed to have his own story separate from whatever the block story is. So, while he may show up on the plane at some point or other, he isn't necessarily going to be part of the game...
That, and you know what they say. If Wizards started shipping $100 bills in boosters tomorrow, people would scream and cry and whine that they were folded the wrong way.
I wonder if they'd ever do something like print Dack in a commander precon, or will he just shadow the overall magic storyline forever.
In any case, it'll be interesting to see what card this art would fit (explore maybe) if they're still doing comic promos.
It would be cool to see him in a Commander or Planechase product, and that's the most likely place for him. I think you're right on the money with calling Explore as the promo.

The issue with Dack (and why he may never get his own card) is that the character isn't owned by WotC, it's owned by the company that makes the comic book.
It's possible they'll be able to eventually work out those issues and come to some agreement to make it work, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.
Legend subtheme all but confirmed. Legendary dual speculation at an all time high... Can we at least bring back grandeur this time, now that we made it a choice betwen Re use ETB ability/pseudo vigilance on my big legend or to use the grandeur ability.
Looking forward to seeing if they can fix "Kamigawa 2"...

I wouldn't mind seeing new ally-colored walkers in the core sets. I also hope Grandeur isn't the returning mechanic simply because its too narrow. It allows for multiple copies of legendaries to become valuable, yes, but you also need to have one in play and one in your hand. The odds are often slim.
Clearly proof if we needed any more that it's a Greek-themed block. Just look at the trireme boat and the Parthenon-type building and large hoplite-looking statue behind him to the left.
I don't believe that's a statue... I think that's one of the gods... Remember that first art with the Announcement of Theros.
The solicitation also states that a variant cover will be available.
*Variant Covers: variant Martin Coccolo Black & White cover!
Yeah, variant covers are pretty much always available. They did a lot of B&W covers the first go-round.
Honestly, I'm not excited. I read the first twelve issues. The writing sucks. The story sucks. The release schedule was beyond frustrating. The art - well, that's kind of cool.
These should be considered expensive, bad promo cards that come with a free comic.

Can't wait to see this mythological themed set.

Also that boat looks like Jason and the Argonauts...
For standard/modern, I wonder (and hope for) if blue will be stronger in Theros, once Snapcaster Mage and Delver of secrets rotates out...

It's a typo. We think "sun-dappled world."
Kiora very soon. Dack possibly never.

He is a planeswalker. He specializes in thieving magic and is blue and red.
How the hell did you think he got from Innistrad to Ravnica to Theros sans planeswalking?

Yep - Could be. It is rather odd WotC had not provided a symbol yet.
