What a crazy set this is! Not only have the rumors been pouring in like crazy, but confirmation for the purple cards being legal in any format where Time Spiral has happened!
The rumors have been coming from every direction it seems, with new ones every few hours it seems! Theres really far too much new stuff to cover in one post, but check out the Time Spiral Spoiler as well as the purple "Timeshifted" cards spoiler. Some of the cards that are coming back are quite interesting!
To top everything off, we have confirmation that the cards will be legal in every format Time Spiral is legal in. You can check that thread out here. For those who don't want to go to the thread, this was sent out today from the DCI manager of France:
Quote from Damien Guillemard, the DCI Manager of France, in a primer sent out to French judges »
***"Timeshifted" Cards***
The Time Spiral set contains a subset of 121 cards known as "timeshifted" cards. There's one timeshifted card in each Time Spiral booster pack, and there are three in each Time Spiral tournament pack. Some "timeshifted" cards appear in each Time Spiral theme deck as well.
Each timeshifted card is a reprint of a _Magic_(TM) card from a set released prior to the _Mirrodin_(R) set. It appears in a pre-_Eighth Edition_ card frame and has a purple expansion symbol. Each of the cards in this subset is equally rare, regardless of their rarities when they were originally printed.
For game play purposes, timeshifted cards are considered part of the Time Spiral set. They are legal in all formats that Time Spiral is legal in.
If you have any questions relating to the purple symbol cards, this should answer most of your questions.
Keep your eyes on the Rumor Mill in the next few days leading up to the pre-release!
If you want to post on this thread, do not say these cards are fake. These cards, as well as the information we have on the spoiler, is all real. If you do, you will at least recieve an infraction, possibly worse.
[card=Dismal Failure]"Two magi could trade spells all day and never crown a victor.

This not only ****s with Type 2 immensely (in a good way, though), it also will have impact in Extended, where the return of Tormod's Crypt will really mess with the graveyard decks that are rampant in that format. Time to get me 4 of them!
Oh damn. I know that the cards are real, but is the standard legality an absolute certainity or just a deduction made upon the fact that the cards have the Time Spiral symbol and thus should be legal in all formats where TS is legal ? I agree with the logic of that deduction, but WotC could instate a new rule since the purple symbol is something we've never seen before. If it's the truth tough, I strongly hope that the partial spoiler we have is wrong on most cards. Several of these should never be standard and/or extended legal again according to today's R&D's fundamental rules : Flying men, The Rack, Wall of Roots, Disenchant, Icatian Javelineers, Witch Hunter, Psionic Blast, Whispers of the Muse, Uthden Troll, Nicol Bolas and Tormod's Crypt (the ones in bold are those that scare me the most, not necessarily in terms of power but at least in terms of design rules shattered).
Additionaly, there are several extended bombs that could have an insane impact on standard : Akroma, Shadowmage Infiltrator, Call of the Herd, Browbeat, Spectral Lynx, Mystic Snake, Voidmage Prodigy...
I guess the info you have is confirmed and that my fears are true... Man, how will they keep the standard metagame balanced with such huge power added ? And we don't even have half of the reprints revealed !
I'm shaking bad right now... this can't be good for the game in my opinion... They better have done a huge balancing job seriously...
I'm a former judge (lapsed), who keeps up to date on rules and policy. Keep in mind that judges' answers aren't necessarily more valid than those of people who aren't judges; what matters is we can quote the rules to back up our answers. When in doubt, ask for such quotes.

As you can see in the first post, the reprint legality information we have is from a 100% reliable source, the France rules manager. They are going to be legal.

Ok, what about the partial spoiler ? It says : "The above spoiler of purple cards is based on several reports from relatively reliable sources." Is that a strong "relatively" or a weak "relatively" ? I guess it depends for each source... More precisely, is Psionic Blast strongly confirmed ??? It is the most pricey card on the list, thus the one that could suffer the most on the secondary market, and the one that breaks the most fundamental modern rules.

I would like to know how you think these will be legal in T2. I just seems very odd that the MTG staff would make such a large push in terms of switching up the color pie, only to reprint that which no longer fits. Disenchant isn't a problem because it's too powerful, its a problem because now white is stepping on ground that Wizards has worked hard to keep it out of. And Psionic blast just just way out of flavor. I just think that it undoes so much of what Wizards has tried to do that they just can't be made legal.... Also, how come we have heard nothing, not even hints about this from Wizards with less than a week before the Prerelease?
you know, i thought it was very funny of WoTC to tease us with these "purplies" and in fact, thought the whole thing was a big gimmick to throw us off (especially after all of the BS with rancored elf).
i secretely hoped that these would be standard legal.
wow. all i can say is wow. man, is the format in for a shake up. i for one am VERY excited about timespiral.
While I also have concerns that this may be raising the power bar a bit too much (can you imagine what the NEXT block has to live up to after people spend a year playing RAV/TSP/10th Standard?), this is a metagame shakeup the likes of which I don't think we've ever seen before. Forget the new takes on old-school power cards (since, honestly, those are not nearly as strong as they look); the reprint cards are going to completely alter the way people judge a deck's effectiveness. The aforementioned wrecking of graveyard-based strategies with Tormod's Crypt, giving blue spot removal with Psionic Blast...the times, they are a-changin', aren't they?
As for Standard getting broken, I'm not sure I agree. The format, unlike Mirrodin block, won't be skewed towards one particular deck archetype. Not everyone will play Akroma reanimator, or MUC with Psionic Blast, or, um, Mystic Snake-based UG Aggro/Control. Yes, the power level is high, but no one deck seems to be clearly indicated as the dominant one of the format.
Now where's my box of Chronicles cards? I need to find my old Tormod's Crypts and Feldon's Canes. Oh, and if it's not too much trouble, let's see Brainstorm and Repulse come back as reprints. Hey, I don't ask for much.
Ah well, so be it, I guess we'll live with that. Since there are 121 reprints and there is one slot for them per pack, each one is more rare than a rare; that should help the secondary market price to remain stable for the most wanted among them. This is once more a move that will give an advantage to the most wealthy Magic players, but heh, that's how it works I guess. I'm still concerned about the frightening power level and the color pie nonsense of many of these, but only time will tell if the great balance of things will be maintained...

I just have to say Lame. really weak. honestly. We were all geeked the fact that we didn't have to deal with the dragon legends anymore. Now Akroma is gonna be In type. Gee i wonder...
now I will say one thing we have yet to see the entire 121 cards its possible they put enough tought into the cards that they're all balanced.. I just hope this doesn't end up as one of those "oops we made a mistake, now we know better..."
Actually With the subset having different colored symbols they could always just say purple rarity cards are not Legal in X format...

"One Day Reason and Sanity will rule the World....."
"Unfortunately that day will be the day after all us Homo Sapiens explode in fiery balls of death from a Thermonuclear Hell..."
i thought one of the points of type 2 was to limit the card pool so old cards that dont fit the color pie, and cards that would be too powerful couldnt be used. if these are type 2 (which they are) they just desroyed th color pie that they worked so hard to make...Psionic Blast...
I thought MaRo made it clear in his article, (that has been posted a numerous amount on these boards) "we are bringing back cards that dont neccessarily go with current color pie...some of the cards may be surprising..." (paraphrased) Get it through your head already! This was what he was talking about.
Its a one time deal for this set since it deals with the warping of time and space. The next two sets more then likely do not have reprints.
I welcome the old cards to T2 seeing as standard/extended needed a little balancing.

As do i, but many people play type 2 so they dont have to deal with cards like psionic blast that dont fit the color pie, and since these cards will be hard to get, people will have to spend a lot of money on them...
the good news however is players who already have these cards will get a chance to use them again...
Well that does it, wizards has lost their minds. Some of these cards were powerful in tournaments before but now they're reprinting them? The power level in standard is about to be kicked up a knotch standard

I for one like this, although getting cards for States is going to probably be a hassle.

The Timeshifted cards replace a common, are one per pack, and are found behind the rare. Yes, they can be foil.

I keep saying I'm going to get involved in Standard/Block/anything that isn't Vintage and keep putting it off... but this is just too nuts to pass up.
