On a related note, does anyone know why the promo broodmate dragon was initially so expensive?
Because it was released before it was supposed to, so it was a new promo in rediculously limited supply. Collectors frothed at the mouth for it. When their day finally came for their actual release, prices plummeted. I remember when I pulled mine; I had no idea how much it was worth, and posted it here. Someone said "I seriously doubt he pulled the Promo Broodmate." About a week later they tanked.
I usually buy just one of these tri packs. Won't mind getting another Hamletback.
Aaw, lame. I already have a foil one for my Brion EDH. It's a very odd choice, though. I also find it strange that these promos are never announced in any form.

The non-announcement is rather strange to me as well. I'm pretty sure I've never once seen even a mention of these promos from Wizards.
I don't think its announced because we're not the target audience for it. These are shiny, bomby cards meant to show people who are interested in magic something cool. This is why they only show up at retailers, and not LGS. We just get hit by the splash damage.
I think they're picked for the art, sort of wholesome fantasy art so somebody's mom might pick them up. I doubt they'll ever make a Demon the promo.
Hmm I can just picture someone's mom thinking, "this fat ugly naked man with insects on his back is sweeping the floor! How cute! My kids will LOVE this!"
Actually I think the 5-mana foil pattern is pretty, and this would make a great addition to most kitchen-top games.

Not even close to an inspired choice. Very meh at best.
