In preparation for the upcoming Champs events across the globe, I am proud to announce that MTGSalvation is hosting its own Standard tournament with Time Spiral, with store credit from http://www.rancoredelf.com as a prize!
Yes you heard that right, as if the allure of a free tournament to provide testing for Champs wasn't enough incentive to play, Rancored_Elf is kindly donating a 10 dollar gift certificate for his online store to be given to the winner! Thats right, this is a free tournament that allows you to test for your Champs events and the new standard that has a prize!
I will be using DCI Reporter to run this (Obviously unsanctioned) event.
If you want to play, or just watch it as it unfolds, (But seriously, why wouldn't you just play? ;)) you can check the thread with all of the details out here.
Registration is now open, so go and take a look!
Also make sure to check out Rancored_Elf's online singles store, RancoredElf.com. He has many of the most popular singles at great prices and shipping on any purchase over 5 dollars is absolutely free! He's supporting this tournament for us, so head over there and pick some of the cards you need!
Wow, $10! That is the most generous thing I have seen in my life! OMG! I can almost buy 1 good card! Awesome! [/sarcasm]
Pretty lame to be honest. When there is a free league that gives much better prizes with a real league system, etc., I doubt this will be ran smoothly.

Ran? I doubt this will be run smoothly.
Don't be a jerk what have you added really?
Some events are ment to be fun as they said in there intro.
'(Obviously unsanctioned) event.'
Who cares how you do when you don't have to worry about your rating.
Games ment to be fun perhaps you have forgotten that.
I'm definitely not entering or anything, simply cause I don't play Magic anymore, but I'd like to say good luck to the tournament organisers and participants.
"Hello! I've come to serenade you. I can't play guitar. I can't play this accordion either, but I thought it'd be less obvious."

I'll enter but when are they gonna have Time spiral in here, I'm kind of just in this to know what to buy when I go to release for my slivers, but also just to have some fun.
I don't see why anyone would complain about a free tournament that has a prize, that also allows you to test for Champs. This is going to be the only place online anyone will be able to test for Champs on a tournament level.

If you have nothing useful to say, don't say anything at all, perhaps? If you don't wanna play, have some fun with fellow salvation members and win some cards, then just don't. Trust me, you won't be missed.
YANP, while successfully being a jerk about it, actually has a point. $10 isn't a ton of money for cards nowdays, seeing as it can't even get you a dual or a painland in some cases. Why don't we just try to submit articles so we have a shot at Article of the Month, worth $30 store credit? All in all, I don't think this is frontpage worthy news, because some people might not even be interested in Workstation tournaments with a low payout.
whatever. just a good time with fellow mtg salvation'ers. the 10$ bonus is just that, a bonus, if you win

If money is the main reason yes.... else for magic, for magic players, for mtgsalvation community. Go GO GO !

I'll let Lesurgo answer the other questions about the tournament itself, but I can answer this one. Time Spiral will be in stock and ready to ship on October 6th, which is next Friday - the street release date. Some sites and dealers believe in preselling cards they don't yet have, but I don't. In any case, no matter who you buy cards from, they can't ship them until the street release date anyway. So see you next Friday?
$10 isn't a ton of money for cards nowdays, seeing as it can't even get you a dual or a painland in some cases.
It's true that $10 isn't a lot of money, and you can't buy dual lands with $10, but it's a free tournament and Lesurgo asked me if I'd throw in a few bucks so the winner could get something. As for a painland, they range from $4 to $9 on my site depending on which set they're from and which colours you want (mint black bordered Yavimaya Coasts being the $9 ones), and since shipping is free, yes... you can get painlands. Just pointing that out since you said you can't get a painland for under $10.
Why don't we just try to submit articles so we have a shot at Article of the Month, worth $30 store credit?
Sure, why not! I'm still doing the $30 a month credit for article contest winners. Better yet... show your strategy skill actually works, and win BOTH!
I will also vouch for RE having a lot of surprisingly cheap prices...$10 will go a fair bit further on his board than on most other MTG online stores. And Free Shipping...who can argue with that?
All in all, I don't think this is frontpage worthy news, because some people might not even be interested in Workstation tournaments with a low payout.
So because SOME people might not be interested, this isn't frontpage news worthy?
This is an event organized by the site, and thus deserves to be accordingly advertised by the site.
And well, if you're not willing to play and have fun at a FREE tournament because it 'only' pays $10 worth of cards, then by all means don't. The tournament is probably better off without people like that anyway.
Even tho I don't play online, I'm adding a LIFE SPINNER to the prize pool. Will that help any of you change your mind to play in the 1st Annual Rancred Invitational? ;-)
What a bunch of ingrates! RE is offering up something for free just to play a "game" that at it's core is about having fun, and you're going to actually post just to complain?? First of all, a $10 credit will make your beloved dual land only cost $5 which I would guess is a pretty good deal, and second of all, thanks alot RE for always being so generous.
So is this Magic Workstation? I might be interested if it is. I would love to play with some power cards, but can't afford a $300 deck to actually compete.

What champs are you talking about? I have no idea about upcoming constructed tornaments. Is it like ran in every country with the format being t2?
Only asking because only MTGO works for my laptop, Workstation is strangely uncooperative.
Akuma will wreck you.
I would like to thank Ye Olde Sig and Avatar Shoppe for my banner even though I couldnt get it working.
By the way, for anyone who doesn't know, here's the info for Champs, at least what Wizards web site has up anyways http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=events/magic/champs

Sunday is the start of the week in Canada. So Friday the 6th is "next Friday" for me. "This Friday" would be September 29th - a few days from now.
