This month's focus is designing cards for the commander format. As previously dictated, you are on the design team for a new pre-constructed commander deck.
Your Challenge Pleased with your pitch, you are asked to create even more cards for the deck. First, you are asked to choose a card to reprint in your deck that has only been printed once before. It can be any rarity, but must fit in with the theme of your deck. You are also asked to create a rare that displays a new mechanic that can shine in multi-player formats like commander, but is also not useless in two-player formats, and has synergy with your commander/is in your commander's color identity.

Reprint: Legion Loyalist, may change it, but for now it seems to fit =3
New Mechanic: Pillage X - Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, each of that players opponents may pay X, if they do, Effect...
Harassing Scout2RR
Creature - Human Mercinary {R}
Haste
Pillage 3 - Whenever Harassing Scout deals combat damage to a player, any of their opponents may pay 3, if they do, tap target permanent that player controls, it doesn't untap during that players next untap phase.
3/2
Reprint: Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund (because Ace's flavor text mentions him, he HAS to be in the deck. Best dragon!)
New mechanic: Underdog. This is an ability word that amplifies a spell or ability if you have the lowest of something. For instance, a draw spell with this mechanic gets better if you have fewer cards in hand than each other player. A token-making sorcery could get better if you control the fewest creatures. Cards with this mechanic are designed to vault losing players back into the game.
New card:
Worldheart Dragon4RRR
Creature - Dragon {R}
Flying R: Worldheart Dragon gets +1/+0 until end of turn.
Whenever Worldheart Dragon attacks, it deals damage equal to its power to target creature defending player controls. Underdog - As long as you have the lowest life total, if a creature you control would deal damage to a permanent or player, that creature deals double that damage to that permanent or player instead. This terror of the skies spews fireballs at the speed of a longbow's arrow, leaving large craters in their wake. 4/4
Wezell, Mindthrull Master2UB
Legendary Creature - Human Shaman
At the beginning of each player's end step, that player puts a 1/1 black Thrull creature token onto the battlefield for each card he or she drew this turn, then sacrifices two creatures. UB,T, Pay 1 life: Draw a card.
2/4
Disparaging Ideals2UB
Sorcery (U)
Draw two cards, then discard a card. If the discarded card is a permanent card, target player sacrifices a permanent that shares a card type with it.
Dreamleaper Siren1U
Creature - Siren (R)
Tempt (Whenever a creature blocks this creature, the first creature attacks during its controller's next turn if able.)
Whenever Siren of War deals combat damage to a player, you may draw a card. 1U: Return Dreamleaper Siren to its owner's hand.
2/1
Aria, Angel of Crusades 3WU
Legendary Creature - Angel [MR]
Flying, hexproof
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, you may reveal an aura in your hand. If you do, put that aura onto the battlefield attached to a permanent it can enchant.
2/5
Angelic Embrace 2WW
Enchantment - Aura [U]
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +0/+2 and has vigilance.
When you cast Angelic Embrace, put a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying onto the battlefield.
New Mechanic: Ephemeral (CARDNAME may be played as if it has flash. If you do, sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.)
New Rare: Chapel Archivist2WUU
Creature Veldalken Cleric [R]
Ephemeral (Chapel Archivist may be played as if it has flash. If you do, sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.)
When Chapel Archivist enters the battlefield, reveal the top five cards from the top of your library. Put all enchantments revealed this way into your hand and put the rest on top of your library in any order. 2/2
Reprint: Blood Artist. Hopefully, they don't reprint it during this round
Rare card:
Merciless Rout5WB
Sorcery
Exile all creatures. You gain life equal to the number of permanents exiled this way.
Absorb 4(4, Discard this card: You gain life equal to this card's converted mana cost.)
It's looking clear my deck has Orzhov doing what it does best: Draining life to your side. Might as well have a mechanic that has you gain life.
The reserve list is off-limits, and as for printed once, that means it can have only appeared in one set. For example, Benalish Lancer has been printed in Invasion and a duel deck, so it can't be chosen. Accelerate has only been printed once, in Torment, so it qualifies to be your reprint. Cards that are just in one set and as a promo are fine.
Kalivan, Death's Hand1BB
Legendary Creature - Assassin (M)
Deathtouch XB: The next X damage that would be dealt by a source you control of your choice is dealt by Kalivan, Death's Hand instead. (If that damage would of been combat damage, it is still combat damage).
Fear the light as well as the shadows, for death dreads no threshold."
1/4
Gruesome Missive1B
Sorcery (U)
Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature.
Cipher
It's the silent threats that are the most dangerous.
Reprint: Undercity Plague (Amusingly enough, there are a lot more Equipment cards with saboteur type effects than black auras... and more black cipher cards than such auras arguably)
I'd say it's a little more interesting than a Sword of in that if you can hit multiple players, you can direct all the copies at a single player!
New Mechanic: Marked (While choosing targets as part of casting a spell or activating an ability, players must choose at least one marked permanent or player if able.)
Loathebrand3
Artifact - Equipment (R)
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a creature, planeswalker or player, that permanent or player becomes marked until your next turn. (While choosing targets as part of casting a spell or activating an ability, players must choose at least one marked permanent or player if able.)
Players may pay 0 rather than pay the mana costs of spells they control that only target marked permanents they don't control and/or other players.
Equip 2
A favored tool of archons to ensure maximum punishment for the sinful.
Hmmm... I keep coming up with designs using it I like, but really don't work. I think I need to come up with a different mechanic.
That should do it. An Equipment that can make Kalivan a little harder to kill (in the sense that it forces other targets), and can lead to very exciting turns.
Koji, Who Walks the Road :symw::symw:
Legendary Creature - Rat Samurai (M)
Bushido 1
Whenever a creature is dealt 3 or more damage, destroy it. "Warriors of Eiganjo, I bring valuable information. The demons don't fear numbers, but rather those whom would dare to defy their strength."
2/2
Rooftop Salvo :2mana::symw:
Instant (U)
Rooftop Salvo does 3 damage to each creature with power 4 or greater. "DUCK!"
Resuscitation Field :1mana::symw:
Artifact (R)
At the beginning of each upkeep, put a charge counter on Resuscitation Field and gain 1 life for each counter in it. Breaking point 4 - When Resuscitation Field has 4 or more counters on it, sacrifice it. If you do, return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Notes: Breaking point is an ability word that looks at the number of counters on a permanent. When a permanent has counters on it equal to its breaking point, its controller sacrifices it and the breaking point ability triggers.
Azgarnag, the Ashen Lord3UBR
Legendary Creature-- Demon (M)
Flying, trample
Whenever a permanent is put into an opponent’s graveyard from the battlefield, choose one— Put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield; draw a card, then discard a card; or Azgarnag, the Ashen Lord deals 1 damage to target creature or player. He sits on his throne in the heart of Azgol’s highest mountain, gorging on death and suffering.
5/5
Faultjaw Beast3RR
Creature-- Elemental (U)
When Faultjaw Beast dies, if it had no -1/-1 counters on it, destroy target artifact or land.
Persist (When this creature dies, if it had no -1/-1 counters on it, return it to the battlefield under its owner’s control with a -1/-1 counter on it.)
5/2
New mechanic: Sadism-- If an opponent lost 2 or more life this turn this turn, [effect]. (Damage causes loss of life.)
Bloodfete Reveler2RR
Creature-- Vampire Warrior (R)
Double strike Sadism-- At the beginning of each end step, if an opponent lost 2 or more life this turn, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control. (Damage causes loss of life.) The more, the deadlier.
2/2
Going to challenge myself with a RRR MONO-RED commander RRR
Ok what about this. Trepidus, Breaker of Oaths2RR
Legendary Creature - Human Shaman {M}
At the beginning of each player’s upkeep, that player gains control of target creature an opponent controls chosen at random until end of turn. "Words mean nothing, only action changes the world"
3/3
------------------- Bloodscale Traitor1RR
Creature - Viashino Warrior {U}
Whenever a player other than Bloodscale Traitor's owner gains control of it, Bloodscale Traitor deals 4 damage to that player The whims of generals mean nothing to him. The hot spray of their blood on the other hand....
4/1
---RRR Round 2 RRR---
My comments in BLUE.
Reprint Choice: Vow of Lightning
Creates good synergy with your creatures if they are stolen by the random effect as they can't attack you and also can be used as soft removal that happens to make them better if you steal them.
New Mechanic: Converge <COST> (When you cast this spell, choose a player. Each other player may choose to pay <COST>. Each player that does gets a copy of this spell and may choose new choose new targets for the copy.)
The extra cost should always be colourless and works as a worse replicate in 2 player duel. However in multiplayer games this allows players to gang up against a single player in a manner similar to Death by Dragons
Card Using Mechanic: Fractured Trust3R
Instant {R}
Converge 3((When you cast this spell, choose a player. Each other player may choose to pay 3. Each player that does gets a copy of this spell and may choose new choose new targets for the copy.)
Target player gains control of target creature until end of turn. Untap it. It gains haste until end of turn.
This allows for you to give players control of my uncommon from the first round or have a whole bunch of creatures swap control in a multiplayer game for maximum madness. RED STYLE!
Kon, Master of Seasons2GU
Legendary Creature - Vedalkin Shaman (MR)
Flying
Whenever you cast a blue spell during an opponent's turn, you may return target non-land permanent to that opponent's hand.
Whenever you cast a green spell during an opponent's turn, you may put a land card in your hand onto the battlefield. "Unsubtle minds manipulate the natural world by sculpting flesh and wood. I merely pull the threads of time, and in doing so I sculpt fate itself."
2/4
Drakerider Scouts2GU
Creature - Veldalkin Scout (U)
Flash, flying
When Drakerider Scouts enters the battlefield, choose one - Draw a card; or search your library for a basic land card, reveal it to all players, and put it into your hand, then shuffle your library "Information is the key to victory, be it gathered from the keen eye of a vedalkin or the keen nose of a huntdrake." - Kon, Master of Seasons
2/3
Stormfront - This is a ability word on spells and activated or triggered abilities that references the number of spells that have been played in a turn and has a variable effect based on that. On spells, it references the number of spells played earlier to match up with Storm, while abilities merely count the total.
New Card:
Seize the MomentUUGG
Instant (R) Stormfront - Draw X cards and put X 1/1 green Insect creature tokens onto the battlefield, where X is the number of spells cast before Seize the Moment. "Wait until the moment of greatest chaos and distraction. That is the time to make your move." - Kon, Master of Seasons
Whenever Hyperion enters the battlefield or attacks, you may pay x. If you do, search your library for an Equipment card with converted mana cost X or less and put it onto the battlefield attached to Hyperion. Then shuffle your library.
3/3
-------------
Fusion Core
Land (uncommon)
t: Add 1 to your mana pool.
t: Add 2 to your mana pool. You can't spend this mana to cast spells.
Focus - Energy Thrusters's ability costs 2 less during your main phase.
"Divert all energy to the primary cannons. We are on attack mode."
Focus rewards actions that are done during its controller's main phase. This is great in multiplayer because it encourages players to do their actions during their turn to prevent wasting time from other player's turn
Mechanic: Squadron is a triggered mechanic that means : Whenever this creature attacks, it gets +X/+X for each other creature of the same type that also attacked.
Lighthoof Brothers2GW
Creature-Centaur Shaman (R)
Lifelink
Squadron (Whenever ~ attacks, it gets +X/+X for each other creature of the same type that also attacked)
When Lighthoof Brothers attack, put a token on the battlefield that’s a copy of Lighthoof Brothers onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. Exile that token at end of combat. “Powerful, loyal to the cause, and even better.... there’s two of them.”
-Ilorin
2/2
The Reprint Chancellor of the Forge is the kind of creature that is you have him early game, he gives you a quick free token to start the foundation of your forces, and in late game he can add a boon of hasty goblins to your other forces, and if your commander is on the field this card this will trigger his ability, allowing your other creatures a boost in power to strong arm your opponents!
The Mechanic:
The Mystic Militia deck has been about adding that extra *umph* into a aggro/creature deck and Squadron does that and more. In a single player game, a mechanic like Squadron can add some weight to a white weenie deck without throwing off your curve or even add some extra punching power to a green creature deck. However in multi-player it gets better by adding an extra layer of strategy to your game, As you can send a wave of your smaller forces toward weaker opponents and then send your squadron powered creature to punch a hole through a more fortified opponents front lines!
The Rare:
Last round we visited the Green/Red side of the color triangle with Viashino Shackleclaw a uncommon creature meant to serve as a battering ram for your forces, now this round we visit the Green/White side with a middle game rare creature that can provide a much needed boost, while maintaining a good fighting presence. If it attacks by itself, it's "brother token" will pump both him and itself, giving you two 3/3 lifelink/squadron creatures to bolster your life whilst they strike. If the commander is on the field then the "brother token" that's created triggers the commanders effect, and makes the original creature a 4/4 with lifelink and trample with a 3/3 lifelink creature token chaser, that deals double damage if a creature blocks them,making your opponents risk giving you a large life gain if they try to block these creatures. If you have other centaur creatures as well, such as those created by Call of the Conclave (a close second choice for my re-print) then it only get's better!
Vali, Gilt-Leaf Witch1BG
Legendary Creature - Elf Shaman (M)
When you cast Vali, Gilt-Leaf Witch, return a creature card with converted mana cost equal to or less than the amount of mana used to cast Vali from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Sacrifice a creature: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
Sacrifice a creature: Target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
2/2
Influential Call3G
Sorcery (U)
Put X 1/1 green Elf Warrior creature tokens onto the battlefield, where X is the highest power among creatures you control. The elves of the Gilt-Leaf will follow anyone with the power to offer them prestige.
Reprint: Fauna Shaman, puts creatures into your graveyard for Vali and combos with the new mechanic...
Mechanic: Sustain. Sustain is a triggered ability that means "When this creature dies, you may exile target card in an opponent's graveyard with converted mana cost equal to this creature's. If you do, shuffle this creature into your library."
Crashing Tatterhorn2BG
Creature - Beast Zombie (R)
Sustain (When Crashing Tatterhorn dies, you may exile target card in an opponent's graveyard with converted mana cost 4. If you do, shuffle Crashing Tatterhorn into your library.)
Crashing Tatterhorn can't block.
Whenever Crashing Tatterhorn sustains, you gain 4 life and target opponent loses 4 life.
4/3
Sphinx of Whispers4UU
Legendary Creature - Sphinx {M}
Flash
Flying
Whenever an opponent casts a spell during his or her turn, look at the top four cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand and the others on the bottom of your library in any order. 3/5
Sphinx's Riddle1UU
Sorcery {U}
At the beginning of the next upkeep, draw three cards. "Concentrate on it for long enough, and you will find more answers than you thought could be inspired by a few words."
Reprint:
ResetUU
Instant {U}
Cast Reset only during an opponent's turn after his or her upkeep step.
Untap all lands you control.
Whirling Thoughts3UU
Enchantment {R}
Instant spells you cast cost UU less to cast.
Whenever you cast an instant spell, draw a card.
Whisper - 1UU, Reveal Whirling Thoughts and an instant card from your hand: Instant spells you cast this turn cost UU less to cast, and whenever you cast an instant spell this turn, draw a card. (Activate this ability only during an opponent's upkeep and only once per turn.)
In general, Whisper is suited for multiplayer, since you get more chances to use the trigger and especially with alternate costs like Sky Hussar's forecast. The reveal an instant here is to allow you to use it for politics in multiplayer: "I have this Counterspell I can cast as a free Dismiss. Want to cast anything?" It's not too broken simply due to the mana requirements, though. Of course, it's just bizarro-Forecast in 1v1, and Forecast is perfectly fine.
Your Challenge
Pleased with your pitch, you are asked to create even more cards for the deck.

The Reprint
Chancellor of the Forge is the kind of creature that is you have him early game, he gives you a quick free token to start the foundation of your forces, and in late game he can add a boon of hasty goblins to your other forces, and if your commander is on the field this card this will trigger his ability, allowing your other creatures a boost in power to strong arm your opponents!

Untap all lands you control.
Whirling Thoughts 3UU
Enchantment {R}
