Ah, I'm sure we all remember the TS 'selling points' that said the set had 422 cards?
Well in that vein, here is the selling points for PC...
"What if everything you knew about Magic had changed?
Planar Chaos continues the story of post-apocalyptic Dominaria started in Time Spiral. Where Time Spiral evoked nostalgia for the past with old mechanics and homage’s to old cards, Planar Chaos moves back to the present, but along a different path. We’re now in an alternate reality present, slightly askew from normal."
"KEY SELLING POINTS
What if everything you knew about MagicTM had changed?
§ A shattered past leads to an altered present
o Planar Chaos features many familiar cards, themes, and mechanics, but altered in type, color, and execution.
§ The second set in the popular Time Spiral block, Planar Chaos continues the block’s themes.
o Set in Dominaria, the popular home world of most Magic expansions.
o Features the return of popular mechanics and creatures from the past
§ Expands on the block mechanics: Flash, Suspend, and Split-Second.
§ More Time-shifted cards
o Where Time Spiral had cards form the past appearing in booster packs, Planar Chaos time-shifted cards take the present in new directions.
o These cards, though distinctly different than the rest of the set, are numbered and collated together with the rest of Planar Chaos.
o Planar Chaos Street Dates Friday February 2, 2007."
More things to speculate about.
Ahoy to rumor season!
More...split second cards?
...disgusting.

Hmm... So im guesing this is saying that there really be more mechanics from the past...the question is will they be the same as TS or new mechanics reused?
The other thing i dont like is the fact it mentions abilities in new colors...just what we want...more color pie skewing.
So I take it they're going to screw around with color pie some more. A shattered past leads to an altered present? Does this mean that the history in dominaria or the past several blocks is going to be messed up somehow? That seems like it would be hard to do but that seems to be my interpritation of what they're saying. Well then, I guess its time for wild and random speculation to begin. Get crackin' boys and girls!
I LOATHE Split Second. It gives you NO opportunity to do anything about a card. Being at two and getting Sudden Shock'd is about as upsetting as losing to Academy back in the day. You sit there and just have to deal with it. How fun is that? I think Planar Chaos needs a green creature...something like...
Divine Wanderer :1mana::symg::symg:
Creature - Elf Priest Druid
Divine Wanderer can't be the target of spells or abilities.
All spells with Split Second lose Split Second and are treated as such.
2/3
Anyway, fat chance of that happening.
"o Planar Chaos features many familiar cards, themes, and mechanics, but altered in type, color, and execution."
I think this means things like a sorcery speed Terror for :1mana::symw: or sorcery speed Naturalize for :1mana::symr: or even an instant Stone Rain for :2mana::symu:. Flipping the color wheel big time. I recall reading that the TS Block would change the face of the game for now and sets to come and a major quirk on the color wheel would certainly do that. Maybe not to a MAJOR extreme mind you, but with enough spells to matter. If not that then maybe a Stone Rain that cost :2mana::symru:. Some major screwing with along that lines is what my gut reaction tells me.
More mechanics returning leads me to consider Fading, Cycling, Phasing, and some of the others that didn't make an appearance in Time Spiral. I have a strong feeling that they wanted to slam so much into Time Spiral, but really couldn't, so with that in mind the spillover comes into Planar Chaos and in the last set will be a crazy mixture of the first two. I know this is speculation to a degree, but it's what I'm getting out of all of this.
I'm really happy to see that they're expanding on the existing mechanics, instead of just making more. That way, good mechanics(like Split Second) get even better, and bad mechanics(like Suspend) have a chance to be redeemed. I think it sucks when a block has 10 different mechanics, like Rav did, and 2 of them are actually playable...but that has been the 'trend' for the last few years. In execution at least, it seems like they're doing things right w/ TS Block.
Actually, I think that the "abilities in new colors" part doesn't refer to color pie skewing, but rather to FIXING - i.e. taking old cards and reworking them so they would make sense in new color pie - because that's "present".
Excellent find Seds! Always great to hear some info especially about the Timeshifted cards in the rest of the block.
And split second has got to be one of my favorite keywords in a long long time, and by far my favorite new mechanic in TS (2nd overall, cuz shadow takes first place)
Im still just in complete confusion as to how they are going to pull of the timeshifted cards without them being reprints. Perhaps something like blue or green Bushido cards or 3 color hybrid mana? I just can never be sure what they are going to do after all the shenanigans in Time Spiral.
Please, accept that Magic costs money to play, and drop it. A playset of Baneslayers>playset of duals. New Jace>Force of Will. Etc... Not to mention, Legacy is so wide open, that it's easy to build a deck that can perform reasonably well without very many "money staples" at all.
I think this set will mostly be things like "What if Kamahl went and became a wizard instead of a druid?" I once heard some crazy idea about how with every choice we make an alternate reality is created for each other possible choice we could have made. And I think that PC will revolve around seeing these alternate dimensions converge, allowing you too see what would happen if major events in past sets went differently.

But completely disregarding everything above, IMO the best song ever is Beer by Reel Big Fish. It is one of those songs like Iron Man and Back in Black and Money and Stairway. It is just completely lightning in a bottle and it is so rare to find that. So there you go, my answer.
With Time Spiral, the color pie is already bleeding the "wrong" way through timeshifted cards. Blue direct damage, black fog, green counterspell, white bounce, red card draw. This dovetails quite nicely with the thematic reasoning behind hybrid mana (things are so messed up that the very nature of mana, the building blocks of the world, is broken). In Planar Chaos I suspect things will become even more pronounced. Functional reprints in the wrong color, old legends returning with their alliances wholly shifted (what if Kamahl not only becomes a wizard instead of a druid but also joins the Cabal?), and who knows what oter plotlines end up horribly altered (no War of the Kami, no Phyrexian oil getting into Memnarch, radically differant guilds of Ravnica).
My whole theory can be summed up with one word. Something far older than Crisis on Infinite Earths: Bizzaro.
All of a sudden I'm reminded of an old series of comics, where the general idea was "What if...."
What if Mishra had won the Brother's War?
What if the Ice Age never ended?
What if Squee died?
What if Eladamri never fell out of that tree?
What if Barren hadn't obliterated Tolaria?
Wow, the fun could never stop!
More Split Second cards....YES! I love the concept of someone being at 2, with 30 mana open and a COP: Red out and being burned to death anyways. Wonder what they could do this time around? Maybe that Split Second Counter??? Please?????????

Magic is a battlefield now? I thought Love was a battlefield.... wait Mark Rosewater is Pat Benatar?
Actually, I was also thinking of Timeshifted stuff from ... 8th edition on up? Whenever they introduced the new card faces (Mirrodin block, I suppose?)... anyways, things from around that era, perhaps even odd reprints of Kamigawa coming into play via Time Shiftiness™. If they have viable Affinity cards it could make Mishra a powerhouse...well that goes without saying, I suppose, "if they reprint 'x' to make 'y' übergood" can be applied to so many aspects
I would love to have certain older cards still up for reprinting, in particular Argothian Enchantress and Karn, Silver Golem from Urza's Saga. Ah one can so, so dream...
edit: PolarBearGod might be onto something with his proposed Elf Priest Druid...except I think it'd be a 2/2, just for 'balance'...are there are lot of things that can globally do damage greater than 3? I can't recall off-hand.... a blue stone rain would be insane... You could have an 8-8 deck...8 chars/8 'rains heh.
I was thinking something along the lines of following the characters from recent blocks (e.g. Mirrodin + Kami) and Their coming to Dominaria. It seems as though they may all be brought together by fate. (Yes I know Mirrodin is set Years before Kamigawa...)
good lord WHY do people have so much trouble with this?
Mirrodin is THOUSANDS OF YEARS after scourge.
Kamigawa was at least one generation before LEGENDS, making it pre-Ice Age, which means thousands of years BEFORE scourge. Hence the only way Mirrodin could come before Kamigawa would be if time is cyclar like some people believe (on Galactica at least:P).
Meanwhile, any chance that them messing with the colour pie and stuff might change what's considered ally colours for them enough for us to get some enemy fetchlands? (I want those damn enemy fetches dammit! I play U/G!)
I don't think that this means that there won't be any new keywords. In fact I downright disagree with that assumption. Other than Rav block, they have continued to explore mechanics from the first set in the following sets, and Rav block had a reason for not following that trend.
Maybe that Split Second Counter??? Please?????????
Do you really want a counter spell that costs 8? I mean I can't really see a split second counter much cheaper than that, unless it was something like :2mana::symu::symu::symu::symu:.
And why does everyone hate split second so much anyway? I'd much rather lose to a Sudden Shock than lose because my opponent had an answer for every time I was about to deal a deathblow for 6 turns straight.

Making contraptions, wishing I could make them twice as efficiently.
Sounds like the color pie will go even more to hell than it is now.
Ninja's in other colors than blue/black, Samurai's in Blue, Threshold X(where 7 is no longer threshold), Affinity for non-land artifacts, Blue Threshold Cards etc. The nightmare is neverending.
Extra Split Second cards is nasty, but to be expected. However i'm going to be interested to find out how many of them are playable, currently only Sudden Shock, Sudden Death, Wipe Away and Stonewood Invocation are really maindeck playable and only Krosan Grip and Trickbind are sideboardable. Making it 4(or 6) out of 10 and already its messing with standard and more so with extended deckbuilding. If at least 10 new split second cards show up in both PC and FS, any playables are sure to increase the impact making anything targettable by split second removal much weaker and the countering strategy as a whole much weaker.
Well for a cancel split second it would cost 2UU.
For a Mana Leak counter it would cost 2U
Both cases, I wouldn't play it, for the one mana difference each time I would play the normal Mana Leak, normal Cancel or maybe just Counterspell.
But I'm pretty sure some kind of split second counterspell will be made.
(But I'm wondering, is MaRo watching us now?)

This is a good point, as the SS cards all are more than they would normally be.
However, to expand on any idea, the new SS cards might not just replicate existing cards, but instead do very crazy interesting things that take advantage of the 'stop everythingness' of SS.

I don't know if nom is town or scum. But I'd like to point out this type of behavior is his standard modus operandi.
Court Mafia: Day 1, hatch plan to KILL EVERYONE ELSE IN A SINGLE NIGHT, when the plan only allows him to hit 11 random players, ATTEMPTS TO FIRE ANYHOW (Roleblocked).
In other words....Nom is an impulsive player who doesn't think about planning long-term or listening to others. I wouldn't be surprised if he was town. At all.
2UU split second counterspell would be 102186530275 times better than Last Word.
Well, it wouldn't cost that much.
Technically, a SS counterspell would be a 'reiteration' of Last Word, so it would cost 3UU.
But I honestly doubt they would make a SS counter, it seems sort of counterintuitive to what SS is trying to accomplish.
