Hey everybody, I'm back and working on a new Glissa, the Traitor build. I'm going for a fairly competitive build, although I don't want to go for any infinite combos. I'm also trying to keep the curve fairly low so that I can play lots of spells early on and jump out ahead. My playgroup usually starts off pretty slow without a lot of action in the first five turns or so, so a deck that comes out fast should be able to take advantage. Feel free to suggest whatever cards you like, although as I said, I'm not going for any infinite combos.
Since Glissa's first strike and deathtouch basically makes her the ultimate combat creature, I figured putting some Swords and other equipment on her would be a good way to win games. She works especially well with trample as well, since trample + deathtouch allows her to assign just one point of damage to each blocker and the rest to the defending player. This is the main reason for the inclusion of cards like Nylea, God of the Hunt, which also serves to pump Glissa when I have extra mana, and can become a huge indestructible beater herself in the late game, especially with Glissa's mana cost enabling 2 points of devotion.
The deck really tries to take advantage of all of Glissa's abilities, from using her combat dominance as mentioned above, while also taking advantage of artifact recursion by running a lot of removal. The deck is ultimately built to play like a classic GB rock deck. Efficient removal, draw, and creatures are all very important to this deck. These supplemented with a bit of recursion and a bunch of value creatures that can be put through Survival of the Fittest and Birthing Pod. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what type of suggestions you guys have!
I haven't had a chance to cast her very many times yet, but the deck can protect her pretty well with Glissa and other deathtouchers "encouraging" people to attack elsewhere. I had one game where she blew up two or three permanents before finally getting killed, and another where she threatened to ultimate, but got Detention Sphered just before that could happen. That said, I could still see her getting cut for something else if I need to make space.
Any reason for not including one of the Glissa poster children, Thornbite Staff?
Birds, Elves of deep shadow-Do you find them useful here? Never really seemed to need them. Genesis also seems sort of slow here.
I understand Nylea is for trample/pump, but wouldn't something like Loxodon Warhammer/O-Naginata be better? Easily reccurable here, they've impressed me in my Glissa deck.
Ulvenwald Tracker also seems sorta meh, since if you really want the fight mechanic you can run Triangle of War, or even Viridian Longbow.
City of Brass/Pendlehaven-Are you that hurt for fixing (heh, pun) in a 2 color deck? Also pendle seems sort of meh. But maybe your meta doesn't see that much land hate.
Spiritmonger is also a cool beater if you're looking for more bodies to hold swords.
If you want, I can post my list for comparison. It's sort of a similar focus, more staxy and rock based though. Could still give you ideas.

Staff was going to be in here, but got cut at the last minute because I couldn't decide what else to take out for my initial draft. Once I get some more playtesting results in I will probably be cutting some of the worst cards to add it. The high equip cost is also a little bit annoying. Basically the same things all go for Viridian Longbow as well. Both will probably be added eventually.

BoP and Elves are in here as an attempt to try out running some mana dorks. Most of my decks in the past have used either mana rocks or land ramp spells, but I thought this might be a good deck to try them out in since they can lead to a T2 Glissa if I play them on T1. Maybe it's just the fact that I like Nylea as a card. Global trample, indestructible, and the pump ability, all for 4 mana and with ability to also become a huge beater in the right situation seems very strong to me. Those other suggestions are solid as well. I especially like O-Naginata since it's very cheap mana wise. This deck really wants Trinket Mage.
Ulvenwald Tracker also seems sorta meh, since if you really want the fight mechanic you can run Triangle of War, or even Viridian Longbow.
The fact that I have to wait a turn to use Tracker's ability can definitely be a pain, but ultimately he has still been very useful. I could see this deck eventually running him in addition to those other two cards, if I can find room.
City of Brass/Pendlehaven-Are you that hurt for fixing (heh, pun) in a 2 color deck? Also pendle seems sort of meh. But maybe your meta doesn't see that much land hate.
I'm sort of building this deck out of the ashes of a three color deck, and i salvaged a lot of the better cards from the manabase, which is why City of Brass ended up in here. I would probably be fine without it. It could be easily replaced with Forbidden Orchard which is much nicer for getting Glissa triggers. My meta doesn't have much land hate, so Pendelhaven is basically a strictly better Forest in my deck. There isn't really any downside to running it, and it could potentially help me in very narrow situations, so I just figured, "why not?".
Spiritmonger is also a cool beater if you're looking for more bodies to hold swords.
I love Spiritmonger! He's a card that I meant to include and then forgot while I was actually putting the list together. I will get one in here ASAP.
If you want, I can post my list for comparison. It's sort of a similar focus, more staxy and rock based though. Could still give you ideas.
I would love to see your list. I want my deck to lean more towards a rock type deck anyway, so seeing your list would be great. I'm also not opposed to using stax elements if they would help the deck.
Why does it seem we always use the same commanders.
Anyways before my mimeo list it was a glissa deck and I HIGHLY recamend the staff. I loved it and was always glad to see it.
Second have you thought about the artifact wipes? (oblivion stone and the like) with glissa being indestructible I preferred them to socery wipes.

Haha I played Glissa a while ago, and recently decided to give it another chance because I haven't been playing Mimeoplasm a lot and I wanted a deck with a "rock" feel. Golgari happens to be my favorite guild by far (if you couldn't tell from my avatar and sig banner), so Glissa is a general that I always look at when I get bored with a different deck.
I will probably add staff in once I figure out what I want to cut from the deck as it is now.
Oblivion Stone is really nice. Unfortunately I don't have a copy at the moment, but I am trying to get a friend to trade me one, otherwise I will buy it. I don't really have ways to make Glissa indestructible though, so she will usually die as a result. It's still worth running though. Nevinyrral's Disk is a bit less convenient in here (as opposed to Sydri, where I run Voltaic Key, Clock of Omens, etc) because it comes into play tapped, meaning I can't just wait and cast it the turn I need it. The sorcery wipes (and enchantment with Pernicious Deed) are also generally more efficient for the mana cost than the artifact ones. I think the best options is to use a mix of both for that combination of efficiency and re-usability.
Yeah, I get the dorks are for a t2 glissa, but what's the rush in getting her out? :p. Especially the 1 life ping from deep shadow, that adds up! Anywho, here's what i've ben tinkering with so far:
Just looking over your list, I noticed you have Duplicant and Moriok Replica listed twice (under both Artifacts and Creatures). Also, excluding these two duplicates, it seems that you still have 101 cards, but I could be miscounting.
How do you feel about the Animate Dead type cards in your list? I notice you have only 18 creatures, so I wasn't sure they would be worth it. I love them in a dedicated reanimator deck, but that's not what this deck is. How do you feel about them?
Also I really need to add Deglamer because last time I played I had a ton of removal effects sitting in hand, but I lost to Darksteel Forge.dec

Whoops sorry, trice sorts the list weird sometimes and I just forgot to change it.
Animate/Necro are mainly just goodstuff slots, more often then not used on my opponents gy then my own.. My meta runs a lot of battlecruiser bomby guys so getting to use their things for my own gain is pretty cool.
Deglamer is awesome, I mainly have it in there for the gods, or even to save a crucial artifact from exile.
Looking at my list, i'm a bit light on wincons. How have you been closing your games out?

I haven't played a lot of games yet, but my initial plan has just been to beat down with Glissa. I don't have a ton of pump effects in here right now, so I should probably add a few more to shore up that plan. Loxodon Warhammer and O-Naginata are both good options as you mentioned earlier. Taking those 2, along with the 4 Swords gives me a decent number of strong equipment to attach to Glissa. Otherwise it's just generally hitting with other big stuff like Rune-Scarred Demon, Sylvan Primordial, Wurmcoil Engine, and Spiritmonger once I get one. I would also like to try out Grave Titan at some point, as he is another potential finisher that can out of control fast, and he even has Deathtouch for my fight effects. Speaking of which, I may want to add Arena.

Arena is another tool in the expedition map box, and produces black with Urborg. Also Arena+Spiritmonger is pretty funny. Definitely worth a test at least!

I think I will add in Arena shortly. Also preparing an Amazon order for some cards. These are the ones I have now:
Alright made some changes to the deck. It seems to be playing pretty well right now, but I would still love to have some suggestions. I'm kind of interested in adding some stax elements, but I've never built a stax deck, so if any of you guys have suggestions for that I would love to hear them.
I saw your comment above, but I find Nevinyrral's Disk to be just fine. It has to make it around the table before you can pop it, but even if someone kills it, Glissa can just get it back when something dies. And, when you you do pop it, you can get it back from the Glissa trigger. In a similar way, I find Plague Boiler to be quite good. You'd think the three counter issue would be a severe drawback, but many times you can just use it after a turn or even right away.
I see that you play Gaze of Granite as another sweeper, and I'm wondering why I don't play it. Seems like a complete blowout. Thanks for the idea!
Finally, I find cards like Urza's Bauble to be surprisingly useful with Glissa. There have been games where I've literally drawn 10 cards with the stupid thing.

I could see maybe adding Disk, but I don't think I want that many sweepers to include Plague Boiler as well. I've got 5 right now, so Disk would be 6.
Darksteel Plate is a card that I need to get and find a spot for. Repeatable sweepers are very nice. Same goes for Coffers. I just don't have one and haven't picked up a copy.
Sheoldred is pretty good. I'm just worried about her high mana cost and lack of immediate value if she dies. I run her in The Mimeoplasm as a reanimator target, but I'm not sure I like her here.
Bauble is something I'm on the fence about. The potential for card draw is really nice, but the overall impact is very low and it does take up a spot. I think Mishra's Bauble seems slightly better overall since you can look at the top of your own library or an opponent's.
I appreciate all of the suggestions and will definitely take them into consideration.
Any thoughts on Voyager's Staff? I'm not sure if your ETB suite is big enough to abuse it, but it also protects your guys from removal or lets you save something from a board-wipe (yours or your opponent's).
I have a couple questions (just from a how-to-play point of view). What do you most often tutor for with Entomb? It's obviously a good card, I'm just wondering if it's primarily utility or if you have an overwhelmingly good target.
Also, how has your experience with Seedborn Muse been? I can see the value of being able to both attack and defend with Glissa, but how often do you find yourself making use of having your lands untap on your opponents' turns?
In terms of cuts, Moriok Replica seems weak. I've tried him in Glissa myself, and despite being a recurrable body, Black just has access to much better draw.
This is what I'm currently running with on cockatrice. Originally I was trying to pull off all sorts of tricks and bells and whistles. I simplified the deck to perform better as a full-on Stax control archetype. Birthing Pod was pretty much just a way for me to get to Kokusho, and I need to be spending my mana to constrain my opponents resources instead of tricking around with my creatures.

I don't feel like I have enough ETB effects to really make effective use of Voyager Staff, and most of my creatures aren't that important that I am really worried about them dying.
I have used Steel Hellkite in a bunch of decks before, but with the high quality removal available in these colors, I think he will just wind up being too slow and / or inefficient. Mimic Vat could be nice to get some value out of opposing utility creatures, especially since we have so many ways to kill things. I will certainly consider it. It's a card that I used to play with a lot, but haven't used much lately.

Nothing in particular. I usually just use it to set up whatever card I want at the current moment. A lot of times if I have fetchlands I will tutor for Crucible of Worlds or Life from the Loam, and vice-versa. Hitting all of your land drops goes a long way into helping you establish a strong position and win the game. Other times I will often just go for artifacts that I want to recur. The fact that it's instant speed means I can use it in response to something getting killed to tutor an artifact to my hand if Glissa is out. A lot of the times it might as well be a one mana, instant speed Demonic Tutor.
Also, how has your experience with Seedborn Muse been? I can see the value of being able to both attack and defend with Glissa, but how often do you find yourself making use of having your lands untap on your opponents' turns?
The deck has quite a few activated abilities, so it's very nice to be able to spend mana on our turn and then untap it all to use the abilities on each opponents' turn. Stuff like Trading Post absolutely loves to be paired up with Seedborn Muse.
In terms of cuts, Moriok Replica seems weak. I've tried him in Glissa myself, and despite being a recurrable body, Black just has access to much better draw.
He is not the best, but he's one of the few draw abilities on a sacrifice artifact, meaning that I can keep reusing him over to gain more card advantage. I like being able to sacrifice him in response to a creature dying to draw 2 cards and have him immediately return to my hand so that I can play him out again next turn.
It looks solid. Something to consider is having a few more ways of putting artifacts in your yard efficiently so that Glissa can go to work early - Grisly Salvage, Mulch, Commune with the Gods, and maybe Deadbridge Chant.

I definitely like Grisly Salvage since it digs 5 cards deep, is an instant, and lets me take a creature or land, which, along with artifacts, accounts for like 80% of my deck, and are all card types that I can recur pretty easily as well. Mulch and Commune with the Gods seem to be not as good since they are only at sorcery speed. Deadbridge Chant is a really cool card, but the high CMC means that it certainly isn't going to work early.

1 O-Naginata
1 Loxodon Warhammer
1 Spiritmonger
1 Oblivion Stone
1 Forbidden Orchard

If you go with extra sweepers, Darksteel Plate is super.
You play Urborg, but not Cabal Coffers. Is that intentional? The combo is just too good when you can re-use Expedition map.
You've got Birthing Pod and Wurmcoil Engine. That makes Sheoldred, Whispering One look very attractive. I've won many a game with that Pod chain. I use Precursor Golem in the 5 slot for extra silliness.
Finally, I find cards like Urza's Bauble to be surprisingly useful with Glissa. There have been games where I've literally drawn 10 cards with the stupid thing.
Captain Sisay - Efficient Toolbox Control
Kemba, Kha Regent - Equipment & Mini-stax

Do you think you could get any use out of Steel Hellkite? How about Mimic Vat?
I have a couple questions (just from a how-to-play point of view). What do you most often tutor for with Entomb? It's obviously a good card, I'm just wondering if it's primarily utility or if you have an overwhelmingly good target.
Also, how has your experience with Seedborn Muse been? I can see the value of being able to both attack and defend with Glissa, but how often do you find yourself making use of having your lands untap on your opponents' turns?
In terms of cuts, Moriok Replica seems weak. I've tried him in Glissa myself, and despite being a recurrable body, Black just has access to much better draw.
Draft my Peasant Cube.

My 540 Powered CubeTutor Page
The deck has quite a few activated abilities, so it's very nice to be able to spend mana on our turn and then untap it all to use the abilities on each opponents' turn. Stuff like Trading Post absolutely loves to be paired up with Seedborn Muse.

Specifically for a Voltron deck: O-naginata.
